  1. For anyone who is interested in file transfers (wired and wireless), I created a new topic. @EskeRahn graciously moved some of the posts from this current topic over there as well. Thanks!
  2. Same here. I am wondering if there are more thick liquids (yogurt, etc) sold in cardboard cartons versus in the USA, so it isn't something that we need to do over here to get the products out of the containers?
  3. It really is a shame that apps don't draw relative to the logical size, or give the users the option to have them work against logical or physical. Agreed that this would be best done by fxtec. And it does seem appropriate, since the curved screen is part of the phone design and does cause some people issues (whether functional or visual). And by that, I mean not just replicating the edge null functionality, but also re-setting the physical display size so that we can have the display end before the curves (user configurable, of course).
  4. History is definitely on your side. 😂
  5. As mentioned previously, I use a WebDAV server on my phone and a WebDAV client on my PC to map the phone as a drive letter. I then use an optimized file copy application on the PC to do the copying, for maximum speed over a wifi connection. There are a lot of variables here (phone hardware speed, phone software speed, wifi network speed (a lot of variables just in that area), PC speed, etc.). I use the above for both speed reasons and to transfer large files. I've only found one WebDAV server for android that doesn't choke on very large files (in my case the files were approximately 4
  6. WebDAV is built into Windows too. You can map it to a drive letter the same way you can an FTP server, in explorer, without installing anything. I don't remember if it was the performance or if it was flaky in some way, but I elected to pay for a product to take the place of the built in WebDAV client in Windows. But it is there, and probably works for most use cases.
  7. True. But for some reason, I think the planets are more in alignment this time. I'm guessing they'll at least get out a good chunk of them this time. I could be wrong, of course. :-)
  8. Regarding WiFi, I've had good luck using a WebDAV server on the phone and a WebDAV client on the pc, that allows me to map it as a drive letter. I then use a special file transfer application on the PC that is multithreaded and works well for higher latency connections. I can post the specifics if people are interested. I haven't tested the speed of that approach to FTP yet, but maybe I'll try that at some point. Not all WebDAV servers are created equal. I had some larger files at one point that other apps would fail on. I had almost given up, but then found a simple server app tha
  9. Oh, so it draws a visual border? I just assumed it made it a dead zone without any visual cues.
  10. In the United States, it is similar. You'll generally hear, "Your call may be monitored or recorded for quality and training purposes." In the United States, even though the laws use the term "consent", notification is deemed sufficient. I'm guessing they feel that if someone is notified and stays on the line, then they are consenting. The above is mainly used in business, since they want to be safe regarding calling across state lines, where the laws may be different. Most states are single party states, meaning that only one person in the phone call has to know it is being recorde
  11. Can you explain what this means?
  12. The purpose of this thread is to share tips and experiences on transferring files between phones and other devices, whether through wired or wireless connections. Whether you use USB or WiFi or Bluetooth or FTP or WebDAV or SMB or something else, please share your solutions. This started out as a conversation in another thread. @EskeRahn has moved the applicable posts to this thread. The rest of this post was the first post in the old thread that started talking about this topic: ... I would certainly be using it for charging more than file transfers, and I can do most fil
  13. Those look slick. The only problem I can see is they only allow for USB 2 data transfer speeds of 480Mbps. Did you come across any that allow for the more modern speeds? How well does the usb-c nub stick in the phone? Is it difficult to accidentally pull it out when pulling on the magnetically connected part of the cables?
  14. I agree, but they have had problems with USA customs when shipping bulk to the USA before. We don't know if that has been resolved and we don't know which approach they intend to take regardless of whether that has been resolved. I'm not asking for what the best approach is (stating for clarity, not being negative). I'm asking if fxtec has made a decision yet on how they will ship to USA customers, so that we know what to expect.
  15. Do we know yet how the phones will reach US customers? Will they be shipped directly to individuals from some non-US location or will they be bulk shipped to a US warehouse and individually shipped to customers from there?
  16. Thanks. I missed it when I scanned back.
  17. Can you send a link to the one you bought, and/or pictures?

    ROM: Ungoogled Stock

Ah, that makes total sense. I knew there wasn't a slot specific update, but the incrementals have to be applied to version the incremental was created from by the vendor, so it can't be applied to the wrong slot. But if it is reading from the active instead of just writing to the inactive, then that would work.

Regarding the earlier discussion about capturing OTAs and downloading them externally, does anyone know of a tool that will apply external, incremental OTAs in order to build a full version that can be flashed?

    ROM: Ungoogled Stock

Good idea. I have a stupid question about A/B updates that I guess I've never thought about. Consider this scenario: 1) You have an original version in A and B. 2) You are running on A. 3) You get an OTA that does an incremental update on B, B gets marked as active, and you reboot into B. 4) You now get an incremental OTA. This incremental OTA can't be applied to A, because A doesn't have the previous update yet. What does the update process do in this case?
  21. I have a separate topic that I created previously for belt holster cases: I know which type you are talking about, as I've used those both with my G2 (HTC Desire Z) and my Galaxy S Relay 4G (until earlier this year, when my last belt half became unusable). I think the only thing you are going to find for solutions that snap into a piece that remains on your belt is the type that require you to glue a piece to the back of the phone. The downside to those designs is the screen facing outward, risking cracking it by pressing against things. It also means the back side of the phone may no
  22. Good idea. I was thinking about options for putting the Sugru on something more removable too, for the screen. For the bottom, I figured I'd put it on a case. Hoping to be able to build up the short edges such that the phone can be placed face down without the screen touching the surface. That might reduce the need for putting the Sugru directly on the screen. I'm concerned about both options restricting how the phone fits into and slides into/out of a belt holster case. Agreed. And a lot more of those solutions will happen when more people receive their phones. :-)
  23. Yes, that should be better, in theory, but people generally can get instant rice a lot easier/faster and in bulk than Silica gel. But if someone has a lot of Silica gel lying around, it should work well. :-) There is nothing wrong with it as long as it is on a low enough setting and great enough distance. Put a thermometer next to it to get it to the desired temperature. The temperatures EskeRahn was talking about are normal temperatures for people living in desert climates. That's another option. Fly the phone to the desert and stick it in the shade for a few days. 😉 My curr
  24. 104 to 113 degrees Fahrenheit. :-) If someone goes the rice route, apparently instant rice works better than regular, uncooked white rice. And use a lot of it, not a little. If your house is very dry (as it is in Winter in Minnesota, where I am), a fan blowing on it in open air might work best of all. Once you get to a certain amount of humidity in the air, then a sealed container with a desiccant of some type is probably your best option. There are some people who claim that flushing out a phone with isopropyl alcohol first will help, with the idea that the water will dissolve
  25. It does work for some people, and if you read the article, it talks about wrapping it in paper towels to avoid the muck. :-)
