Keyboard print layouts and functionality
netman replied to caymen's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
Androids EditText widget does ctrl-arrows to skip words already so most apps will already do it even if they didn't explicitly implement it. You can see this in action with any bluetooth keypad that has ctrl or connecting a real keyboard via USB-OTG. -

A serious OS on a phone that is not android and it'll run on my next phone :). I am excited! -
Updates? More Consistent Interaction from Dev Team
netman replied to rubleaj's topic in General Discussion
Do other phones get much announcing and behind the scenes stuff? Enough was shown to have me jumping in excitement until juli, but I'd love to see more :D. -
Puedes usar Google Translate para entender y ayudar a escribir en inglés. I believe when the phone actually ships the shipping cost for your location will be calculated and told. If I understand it the phone should work just fine in South America.

will you be provide support for hebrew ?

root was promised to us :) the other questions i can't really answer but they can all be patched in software by whoever wants to i would think -
At the risk of stating something already known... For me the biggest issue with the forum is that I don't get emails for messages in threads I'm subscribed to, don't know whether everyone has that issue. Really like the unread thing added :). When there is time polls would be a great feature for some of the questions that where posed already.

I'm with Noir on this one, I'd feel realy weird shaking my phone.
-
Yes for me also google assistant is just a joke. Remapping via xposed framework or alike is always possible, but it'd be really nice if it can be also done without root.

Supporting more operating systems than only Android is really a nice cherry on top of this beautiful concept, thanks fxtec folks for keeping the dream alive :). -
I see the images just fine, maybe it blocks depending on location?

Dinosaurs is the right word :D! Also forums are only for some specific audience so any voting statistics is skewed here. With more bezels and flat screen the demographic that just walks into a store and buys a phone may dismiss the phone without looking closer thinking it's just a feature phone or otherwise cheap crappy thing while the curved screen screams "this is pretty much a galaxy s-something" from half a mile away. If this holds true (I don't know, I'm no expert on people) then it could be very important to sparking a new interest in real keyboards on phones. From what I see so far, I f

Well it's pretty hard to know what percentage of people would prefer a flat screen and how many would not notice the phone if it wasn't for the sleek curvy look, only the people who dislike it are going to open their mouth most likely. I'd really prefer a flat screen but if it sells better with the curved one i believe they should go with it so that for now to give keyboards a better chance, and I most definitely still need one.
-
And it'll be the only curved phone that has a keyboard to hold on to, that definitely solves some of the problems i have with the near 1:1 phone to screen ratios of the Android rectangles on today's market. Could well imagine using the keyboard just as a handle or stand for uses like YouTube watching.

As it has snapdragon 835 SoC, I'm pretty sure it will not.

A leather flip case kinda seems to me like the only way the screen could be protected very good, so that would be my vote. I really like cases that somewhat recess the screen but it seems pretty much an impossibility with a slide out keyboard, for nokia e7 this existed (but seems unrealistic to implement well with smaller bezels): https://www.fonearena.com/blog/37714/review-otterbox-case-for-nokia-e7.html

Found another video with a lot of opening and closing the device, it looks so wonderful :).
-
+1 on not really needing an adaptor, there's plenty in my box of unused adaptors and i have one from my current phone
-
But how will you type? Typing on a touchscreen slows me down way more than the lousy mediatek chipset in the phone I own now, so i rate input method as a greater importance then ram etc. And the pro1 is by no means a low specced device, it'll run nicely. That plus I doubt fxtec could make much of a profit if they made the device cheaper / higher spec.
-
Yeah, it's a great idea. I've never pre-ordered anything before this in my life because trust issues, but the way fxtec handles it convinced me.
-
We will all be jumping up and down until July i think :D. 109 days to go until July begins and probably then some until release day. Wouldn't be totally surprised if it did have an FM radio, for many phones it exists (as part of the SoC even if not mistaken) but is disabled depending on region (because of some legal reason I think). It looks either way like it'll be the best android phone ever :).
-
As said in the other thread, you don't need to pay anything yet and the $30 is the value of free case and earphone given extra for everyone who pre-ordered. Payment info will be requested only when shipments are about to start.

Keyboard print layouts and functionality
netman replied to caymen's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
It's for certain feasable to adjust the keyboard layout by writing an IME that translates the letters, which wouldn't require root but it would replace the software keyboard in vertical mode (I have done this for a chinese android phone with a numeric keypad). Someone would have to do it though. I'd definitely root the phone personally though, it's pretty much required or else you have to just live with ads in youtube etc. -
https://nokiamob.net/2019/03/03/the-spiritual-successor-of-nokia-e7-announced-at-mwc19-as-fxtec-pro1/ suggests that it will have FM radio :) that'd make this awesome device even more perfect :)

Personally I would embrace curved displays if the screen protectors were on par with flat ones, other than the corners being clipped a small curve to the edges hardly feels like a problem. And I'm sure there's people who like it, no matter what marketing departments do it is people who are buying them driving the trends to survive.
-
Yes, the pro1 being a smashing success is what all of us need so there is enough demand for more niceties like it :). For sure there has to be many more people like us who waited for this to come, it's almost exactly the phone I've always dreamed would exist.
