pro1x I got the Pro¹ X in the mail earlier this week and I need help
suicidal_orange replied to JECE's topic in Support
Is the keyboard driver open source, or at least documented? Given the number of requests for layouts already (which I will probably add to if I get my fingers on my Pro1X and like it) with most devices not even shipped it seems work is required to make customising easier, and putting it in the driver would fix Android, Lineage and Sailfish all at once so seems the way to go. Completely customisable keyboard firmware exists in the mechanical keyboard world (tmk being the first and least bloated) and it's in C so although written for AVR much of the scanning and mapping code should be reus -
I got one, for what it's worth...

Didn't think my Xperia X would make it to my last birthday, was sure it wouldn't make this years but that too has passed and it's still going. No standard speaker for calls even after replacing it, temperamental vibration motor, ringtone and alarms, no sensor on the headphone socket, randomly hangs up half of incoming calls as the phone is pulled from a pocket and (or maybe because) the flip cover is now hanging on by one layer of rubbery covering. My backup Z3 compact has a dead sim slot and my trusty Nokia 808 has a broken USB so I don't see any option other than getting another phone -
pro1x Pro1X - Stock Android OS (Build Number: v2.1.2_20220707)

It takes longer to type or copy a command and it gives you the chance to do it wrong and both of these things are seen as "bad" when it comes to officially supporting something. It's copying - either it works or it doesn't and both methods do so why would you want to mess around installing windows, drivers and reading licenses when you could just use a simple tool 🙂 -
Pro1x - really poor connectivity to both wifi and cellular.

Maybe the antennas aren't properly attached? Not sure about the warranty effect of opening it up to check... -

To be this slow I would guess they are filling the last little gaps in a container full of other stuff with phones. Two working weeks and still less than 100 reported sent is pathetic but Fxtec have obviously done their bit as it is happening. As someone who ordered a couple of days from the original IGG end date I should be near the end of batch 2, which at this rate might arrive in time for Christmas. At least Ubuntu will be ready by then! -
Tax and VAT? I'm in the UK and based on $300+40 a calculator just said I should expect 0% Duty and 20% VAT plus handling fee which is consistent with things I've imported from non-EU countries in the past - I only checked as I've not imported anything for many years. I'm used to talking to Americans and being jealous that they pay nothing, feels weird being on the good end for a change!
-
The percentage is purely dependent on the destination country and whether you pay or not depends if the declared value is over the threshold (again, varies by country) and whether it gets picked up. As they are sending tracked there's surely info that will be picked up when it's scanned so unless perks are legitimately undervalued as they were not purchased there's no way I'm expecting to get it for free in the UK, and I imagine most places would be the same. The one exception being the USA where they got lucky - if the bundles were sent with the phone the package would be over the threshold

Because the next generation like repeating themselves endlessly in one long stream rather than having an organised, searchable, record on a forum. It's called progress 😖 -

Open source developers often have a "buy me a beer" button so people can thank them for their efforts - I have been unable to find one for anything to do with the Pro1-X. Until I do I will continue to joke that they are hiding, I mean no disrespect 🙂 -

Is this where the mysterious "community developers" have been hiding?! -
Great to hear that it works, strange that the last build looks like it was a month ago (though an actual date would be good as it reads like there were multiple builds within minutes!) I barely use my phone as a phone (just the occasional call or text) so if it works it's good enough, but I'd like to know why you think it isn't a good option without even being able to try 🙂
-
So out of 700 phones in batch 1 I'm seeing two "I got my tracking e-mail" and another handful of "someone I know got a tracking e-mail" (which could all be talking about the same "other") and said e-mails were sent three days ago, while people with low contribution IDs still don't have one - seems there are lots more Pro1 website buyers than we know about. Hopefully they still care and are devs so by the time batch 2 ships alt OSes will be ready enough to try.

Did they tell you it was coming or did it arrive and then you checked the tracking? -

... if the shipping company feels like shipping any phones that week! Hopefully they will. -

Not doubting, just laughing at the ! and lack of an actual date because people criticise Fxtec for doing exactly the same thing. Glad to see there is an option, if they were more alternate OS friendly I'd have bought a Unihertz long ago. What are you planning to run on the slim? -

Hasn't everything been out of their hands once it went past the design phase? They ask someone in China to do something and ... most of the time nothing happens. If you book a slot for shipping and send pallets of phones which are confirmed as arriving in time you would expect tracking numbers to be assigned and notification e-mails sent even if the courier doesn't arrive to actually take them, yet this hasn't happened. Meanwhile Fxtec tweet a pic of a Pro1-X in the wild, as if to taunt us (surely not intentional but not good) -

You really think someone wont post on IGG within 2 mins of the first batch of e-mails being sent? I'm pretty sure they will. Four whole days left in this week... -
Oh of course - no diodes and mods need to work with any key without ghosting. First thing to check would be that the ribbon cable is seated correctly - the end pin it could have disconnected before the others only breaking Ctrl. If there's a big ribbon going from the keyboard to the main PCB reconnect it, if not the problem is within the keyboard. Pics would be good.

Is it definitely one physical key not two keys sending the same keycode? In most keyboards (not phone specific) lots of keys are connected and when a trace breaks usually the whole group past the break stops working, for two keys so far apart to die but no others sounds strange. Not impossible as there could be a trace running across the bottom between them, but definitely strange. I'd suggest ripping it apart to have a look but if there are pics somewhere that would be good to see first.
