I'm curious what phones people have used in the past. For me:

Nokia 3210 -> Nokia E70 -> Nokia N900 -> Motorola Droid 4 -> Motorola Moto Z -> F(x)tec Pro1 (hopefully, some time this year, maybe)

nokia 5110 -> nokia 3310 -> Ericsson R380 (first smart one, 😄 still have it) -> Sony Ericsson T630-> Xda Orbit 2 (yuk) ->Ericsson R380Nokia E90 -> Nokia e72 -> Nokia E7 (R.I.P 😭) -> Lumia 950 -> google Nexus 5 -> OnePlus X -> Photon Q (sim mod died) -> Oneplus X (again) -> Oneplus 3 -> clackclackclack again :)

5110, E7 and Nexus 5 were the only ones I got as a brand new one.

I never was without physical keys and thanks to F(x)tec I can keep that tradition 😊

It started in 1998.....

 

Philips Savvy (best SMS sound ever) ->  Nokia 3210 (bumblebee ringtone ❤️ ....and it had T9)  -> Nokia 5100 (black) (my first phone with color screen...but it looked like a skeleton) -> Sony Ericsson D750i (first phone with camera and (expensive!) internet which it loved to open) -> Sony Ericsson K770i (black) (same as D750i but fancier looking) -> Samsung SGH i200 (First "Smart"phone .... Windows Mobile 6.1) -> Nokia N95 8GB (Affordable Internet at last ,,, and it's still my favourite phone of all times)  -> HTC Desire Z ( first one with touchscreen) -> Blackberry Priv  (4 Times...two of them just bought for spare parts 🙄) -> F(x)Tec Pro¹ (in a few weeks 😄)

Exept for the Philips Savvy (which my mum bought 😄) I never had a new phone. All others I got second hand.
The Pro¹  is the first time of my life I buy a brand new one
(and the first time I spent so much money on a phone).

(color dumbphone) -> Nokia 1112 -> Samsung ?? color dumbphone -> Nokia n900 -> Previous samsung -> Sony Xperia M -> Nokia/Microsoft Lumia 730 -> Nokia e72 -> Rungee/Xeno/Landrover n2 (this thing) -> Doogee S60 & since recent Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in parallel -> Pro1, shortly!

Since I consider phones to be PDAs, I'll start with those: Palm T2--> Palm TX--> Nokia 5800--> Nexus One (HTC)--> Samsung Galaxy Player (non-phone)--> Nexus 4 (Given to Son--> Nexus 5--> Nexus 6p (Died in May)--> Moto G6 (interim meh phone)--> Pro 1

 

PS: I did not include countless T9 cell phones, the only interesting one being the Moto Razor (not sure which one).

...I lost count long ago, it is over twenty years ago... some only lasting half a year before being passed on to someone else.

But the later devices has lasted much longer simply due to lack of really better alternatives than what I already had, available in Europe.

1994 Oki 900  - my first candybar <-- fun phone to play with back in the day

2001 Altactel candybarphone (FIRST DIGITAL)

2002 Nokia 3310 (maybe that number is right) a small t9 candybar phone

2005 Moto Raz3 V3 flipp

2010 Sony Ericson mp3 flip

2012 Samsung Flight 2 feautrephone  - FIRST QWERTY

2013 Moto Photon Q - FIRST SMARTPHONE

2018 Moto Z2 Force - only bought that cuz I thought the keyboard mod was about to ship...

I always said that I won't pay for a normal smartphone without a keyboard. I wanted a QWERTY slider since I saw the first ones available but they were usually too expensive or not available here. I used my Nokia for the longest time from all my phones. I got the HTC EVO 3D at work and I won the Lenovo A606 in a small competition so until the Moto Z I didn't pay for any smartphone. I bought the Moto Z just because of the keyboard mod and I'm fairly sure that my next phone will be the F(x)tec Pro1.

Phillips Diga > Siemens C25 > Nokia 7110 > Nokia 6822 > Nokia 9500 Communicator > Nokia 5800 > Nokia N900 (3 of them) > Then it gets a bit fuzzy... 1st jolla phone, asus zenfone 6, both firefox phones (both crap!) > Blackberry priv > Nexus 6p (copperheadOS) > Blackberry key1 > Blackberry key2 > pro1 on preorder (and a pinephone braveheart edition to play with)

My phones obviously lasts for a very long time, cause I am kind to them. Firstly I had Nokia 5110, then 3210 (behind my brother's business) for just a short time, then Ericsson R520m What a phone that was!!, But it was again second hand after my brothers business and had problems with Bluetooth, so I've bought my first brand new phone and immediately it was the best on the market: Nokia 6600. After a long time I tried Nokia E50, was fine, but sold it earlier to buy brand new E7, what died on USB  connector, so Ive bought another one :) And now I am waiting for a Pro1 :) Just thinking that each E7 lasted me for 4 years. Thats not bad :) If there still were some support for Symbian, it still is a good phone (instead of old camera in comparison with nowadays..)

 

Edit: oh! I forgot Nokia 6310i!! Was between Ericsson and N6600! I was curious there is missing sthg 😄 Still using it as a backuip phone time to time :)

Motorola V120, Mot V60, red Sprint flip thing, Treo 650, Treo 700p, Mot E815 + Treo 700p simultaneously, Droid 1, Droid 3, Droid 4, another Droid 4, Pro1 (soon). I've owned a few other things, but these were/are my daily drivers. I've never had a daily driver phone without a physical keyboard of some kind. I have tried (and hated) other devices without them, mostly belonging to friends. I almost prefer 10-key text entry to touchscreen, weirdly. I played with a BB Priv, but it never made it past testing to daily driver. I didn't like working in portrait. If anyone wants it, it's for sale. :)

My wannabe phone was Nokia N950 and I almost bought a Motorola Z or Z2 because of Keyboard Mod (first I wanted a version of Z, then Z2 became available, then maybe almost Z3 but the whole Z series became unnecessary as we lost Keyboard Mod).
My 3310, 6230i and Moto G6 were brand new. I bought my first N900 as used device but after years, its eMMC has died. A few months before it died I bought the second N900 which had eMMC fault (so was cheap) and got it up and running by placing some of the system to uSD card - so that was my second N900. My third N900 was also used but had well functioning eMMC - it still works but the hardware is not reliable. (So I have a working N900 which uses uSD card instead of eMMC, one N900 which could be repaired the same way and another one which works but hardware is not reliable - they are really slow these days.)

I also had a Nokia N9 as secondary device.
...if it would had a keyboard... I really missed N950.

Oh man, how far back should we go? Lol I’ll just do the last 7-8 years 😂 Pretty much just Samsung Galaxy S3 and then switched to iPhones. I’ve been dying for a keyboard smartphone for 10+ years though. I LOVED the LG Rumor I had in Middle school.

I saw that, but he didn't post so here, and besides I think his iFart got hammer surgery, memory serving correctly. :)

He did tho, but from his earlier statements about yPhones i don't actually think he'd be insulted. ^^

On a more serious note, other than their active efforts to make repairing their stuff more difficult apple does have some good things, way longer term updates and (presumeably) better security etc. Just different target audience, people who don't want to bother with custom anything and just get something that works consistently without wasting time on it, not sure if Apple delivers so but it's what they seem market.

Sure, if you're in an iJail and can't do anything without the iWarden's permission, your security is going to be pretty good. Liberty is messy, but my forefathers chose it (I'm American) and I choose it too, when I vote politically, and vote with my dollars. I voted the most money I ever voted in my life on a phone for the P1, and I expect it will be worth very penny. I might actually get a few more just to have spares. This is the best thing ever, really.....a phone which is open, rootable, customizable, has a fabulous keyboard, and is built to last forever. I can hardly wait!
