  1. Quoting my old post. So 8 months ago I got a new display from Aliexpress and asked from a local phone mechanic to do the replacement. He refused because he didn't know the phone and didn't want to take responsibility from accidentally breaking the device. So I tried to do it myself, which went well otherwise but I put too much heat on the display, which ended up with the display plastic frame melting and losing the shape 😐 Should have got a heat gun with adjustable heat level 😄 So I put my Pro1 in the drawer and while waiting to get the display+frame from Fxtec (which was promised much ea

  4. True true , because this time i was within the first 50 to order i have the option to get it in august if i pay for expedited shipping maybe for FX tec's next phone , they should team up with unihertz FX designs the phone and outsource Unihertz for production , updates and PR

  5. This is why I continue to believe in FxTec. They can only do what they can do, but no matter how long it takes...they come through. Even when it's at the point where you may have given up on reminding them.

  6. Aren't most unihertz phones bootloader locked so there are no alternate OSes for them? I have looked at them often as they have small phones but I'm not using stock Android. If their software partner (it's not done in house) can do an open version it's a great idea.

  7. would be great if the niche products could find ways to help each other, as they target different parts of the small keyboard segment. But the big question is if the visions are compatible?

  8. The big question here is if you can get the key-tops free of the elastic plate? The current is some combination of an elastic mat, and some harder material on top, that is then painted white (and for some keys a colured square top right, and finally the black layer of paint. And this combined plate can be freed by heat. I have no knowledge wether the tops can be separated by heat, Though I intuitively doubt it... So you might need to 3D-print the elastic base plate as well in e.g TPU On my spacebar the black is wearing off, all other keys are (still) intact. So the timing of soo

  9. I ordered Pro-X with a spare battery. Once it arrives, I need to store the battery 50% charged. This requires the ability to check the voltage and periodically charge it. Switching the bettery in Pro/Pro-X would be too complicated. I could check the voltage with just using digital multimeter. Possibly I could use Skyrc B6AC charger for charging the battery. It is a programmable general purpose charger.

  10. There are so little instructions on the ih8sn in the internet so i thought i could share how to get it to work on pro1 if anyone is interested in that. Fresh install is not needed and you don't need magisk or any SU package to pass safetynet after this. Not sure if this works for other OSes than Lineage but someone can have a shot and tell if it does. Requirements: -ADB on your computer -Debugging and rooted debugging enabled on your phone from developer options. -Latest ih8sn aarch64 release downloadable here, extract the zip, you don't need the .conf file as it is for different phon

  11. You actually don't need UniversalSafetyNetFix with pro1 if you use MagiskHidePropsConfig. I have understood that USNF is more needed on devices with hardware attestation and pro1 uses basic attestation so only changing of the fingerprint with MHPC and putting google gms on denylist is needed to pass safetynet, and that always worked for me too. Then you might need to set some other props with MHPC for some programs to work that check more than just Safetynet pass. Anyways there is a new way to pass SafetyNet on Lineage without magisk at all called ih8sn. I personally switched completely t

  12. I've recently discovered typeracer as well which seems easier since you have full sentences. Best achievement with the Pro1 today were 370cpm which should equal to about 74wpm in german language. In english I get around 65-70 wpm but I have to quit many texts since they have special characters which I don't regularly use (as ' ). On the computer I get to up to 500cpm at max - in best times though.

  13. Indeed, touchscreens are just fine for replies like "OK", "Thanks" or "See you". And works tolerable for most web-addresses too. But a longer reply.... nah...

  14. After typing on a keyboard phone again for a while, I can just feel again how awkward touchscreens are to type. I do not type enough to get really fast but I do type on it! On the touchscreen I often wait until I am at a computer before I reply.

  15. Add to that not having to look concentrated at the keyboard during typing, to keep touches inside the dedicated 'key' areas.....

  16. You're a beast! I'm still stuck at 50WPM but I have been out of the game for a bit due to a dislocated thumb 😬 (no worries, it's fully recovered by now). For me what i'd call a "leasurely" pace would be 40-45WPM which I'm sure people can do on a touchscreen, but for me it's not even so much about speed, it's just way less frustrating and harsh on the fingers when there's some feedback rather than just hammering my thumbs on a pane of glass.

  17. I missed that topic this far! The below video shows 60 wpm/252 cpm, but I'm now about 10% faster. There seems to be a convergence to about 40-65 wpm here, which together with the accuracy (very little mistake rate) should be enough to convince people about how useful can a hardware thumb keyboard be; and that's without bringing screen estate and application/OS keybindings into the equation.

  18. Wow thanks for the many insightful replies. The keyboard still responds. And much to the dismay of my colleagues, even my alarm clock went off this morning, with the phone only consisting of the base board and the battery. So it is clearly still mostly functional judging by that. While i am at it, does anyone know what type of buttons i would need for replacing volume up / down and power? I accidentally broke them all. They still work, but barely. Somehow when reassembling the phone i got them scraped off while closing the case.

  19. Hi, i accidentally swapped the two connectors going into the display unit and powered on the phone. So the display connector was on the front camera connector and vice versa. I did this because i was troubleshooting the display not working, which was mostly a contact issue from dirt in the fpc connectors. It was late and i was getting increasingly stupid 😄 Well now i can't get a picture or any response on the screen anymore and i was wondering if this swappage might have broken something. Before i order a new display i was hoping you guys could tell me if you think that either t

  20. I managed to do the same thing when I upgraded the firmware on all my spare displays. something got shorted and the ribbon cable was sending smoke signals... fourtnatley I managed to dissconnect it fast enough to not make ane permanent damage, except the ribbon that de-laminated in a few millimeters
