  1. What I meant is, does it write those new layout files to the /system partition? Is that where they are stored?
  2. My reading of that was that he wants the stuff that the system stores in /data to match when he puts a point in time snapshot of system back later, not just his personal data. I could be wrong, though I can get by on TitaniumBackup backups and wireless transfers for media (MTP isn't working well for me). adb backup, in theory, is a nice idea. But with so many apps not supporting it, it ends up being a worse solution than using a backup tool (like TB). adb pull is another option to backup the files in /data, which is why I asked if just having the files on the /data parti
  3. So does FinQwerty modify /system? I've never messed with keyboard map files in the past. Or, I guess the other way to ask that is, what is the difference between a person copying the files to a specific location vs FinQwerty doing it?
  4. Nandroid backups are definitely a good thing to have if you want to go back to a particular state, rather than having to go through setup again and restoring some things through various restore methods. Once a TWRP becomes available that can decrypt the data partition, this particular use case will be possible (without needing to disable encryption).
  5. This was incorrect. I posted that before receiving my phone. I posted instructions on how to access the Pro1 recovery mode here:
  6. I've seen it reported that the Pro1 doesn't come with its own recovery. There is a standard recovery included with the phone's firmware. I think there may have been some confusion due to the way you need to access recovery mode. To access recovery mode, you have to either: A) Hold down the volume up when you boot the phone (before the logo screen comes up) or B) Use "adb reboot recovery" from a connected computer or C) Boot into the bootloader (by holding down the volume down when you boot the phone (before the logo screen comes up) O
  7. I've see it sometimes show up for the Pro1, but rarely. I believe this is the main mode I use to access my SD card on my old Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G, currently. But I've been through several rounds of installing different drivers over the years, so there could have been a point where I could use MTP on that.
  8. By the way, does the SD card show for you in Windows when connected via PTP?
  9. So you want to do nandroid backups of /data? I am hoping to install TWRP too. One does exist, but can't read /data due to the encryption. Due to the boot partition and recovery partition being merged into one by google for A/B devices, installing both magisk and TWRP is tricky. I will be attempting it, but not for a while. In the meantime, if you had a way to copy all the files from /data, would that work?
  10. Do FinQwerty and KeyMapper serve the same purpose? I haven't installed either, just curious. Is the difference that FinQwerty replaces keyboard map files with prebuilt ones or user created (created outside the app), and KeyMapper is modifying the files while you are in the app? Or does KeyMapper not modify files at all, and is just intercepting keystrokes?
  11. There is no known built-in way to disable encryption (meaning in the UI), that I know of. I will be trying to do this soon and can post the steps used. When you say for future backups, what do you mean? What will you use to do the backups?
  12. I had errors on win 10, 64 bit, MTP (yeah, they dumbed down that one, but not ptp or midi, lol) and PTP without USB debugging enabled, but not with it enabled. That was on the 20191203 firmware. I haven't tried on the 20200106 firmware. Which are you on? It would be interesting to see if you have the same issue with PTP.
  13. FAT32 shouldn't cause that. My card tests fine in my PC with FAT32. Of course, with the standard disclaimer that anything is possible, I guess. 🙂 I have been moving files around more recently, with rooting and migrating things from another phone, so I have noticed the speed issue a bit. But one thing I am a little concerned with is 4K video writing. I believe that wants 30 MB/s, so we are lacking a bit there. I haven't taken any videos yet, because I need to modify my case first, but that risk has been in the back of my mind. Regarding copying from the PC to the phone SD card, c
  14. I have verified that the SD card is still operating very slowly on my Pro1, even with the latest OTA (20201006). It is unfortunate, because I'm pleased with the speed of everything else with this phone. The writes should be at least twice as fast and the reads should be about 3 or 4 times faster, with the card I'm using (even taking into account that SD cards are slower in phones than through USB 3 card readers on PCs).
  15. I'm not aware of a way to decrypt it, but, in theory, decryption can be disabled. It requires wiping the data partition, however, as part of the process. It is on my list of things to do, but I haven't done it yet. The system will also always be trying to re-assert itself and enable the encryption, I believe. One would need to be careful to not uninstall Magisk and reboot (if using Magisk for the solution), as the storage would again be encrypted by the system, I believe.
  16. The data is encrypted by default. You can set a lock screen code or pattern, as well as a separate one at boot time. It is pretty much stock android. There isn't a built in app locker, that I know of, but you can use apps like Smart AppLock for that.
  17. I tried some testing without much success with Light Flow a couple days ago. I didn't do a lot of testing, because I got sidetracked with a bug where gmail notifications won't come through in a timely manner and that is what I was using to test notifications. Turns out google changed something on purpose to not make gmail notifications be timely. They say that email is something that doesn't need to be dealt with on in a timely manner. Now, either they are covering up for their mistake, or it is yet another case of google thinking they know what we want, when they clearly don't. The way a
  18. Regarding the bug a few posts back where things found in the search results can't be found on the linked topic/page.... The problem appears to be when posts have been moved by a moderator to another topic. The search data isn't updated for whatever reason. I'm not sure if some index can be rebuilt for that or if it is a more ingrained bug with the forum software. It doesn't happen with every post moved. It could be that the search lags behind the move and that the instance I found today will be resolved when more time has passed.
  19. Yeah, at one point in my testing, single did allow a test or two to work for me, and I thought that was another variable that made a big difference. But then it stopped working for single too. My guess is that single *might* reduce the risk of it happening a slight amount, but it is equally plausible that it was just a random chance that it worked those few times on single mode. I tested it here with a Pixel 1. That has a one year older chipset and is running Android 10, but I figured it was worth a test. It didn't crash. It could be the advanced features in my router, combined w
  20. If you have a way to test against 2.4GHz, with 801.11n, that is what would apparently be required. 802.11n at 5GHz might produce the problem. I did not test that.
  21. If you have a way to test against 2.4GHz, with 801.11n, that is what would apparently be required. 802.11n at 5GHz might produce the problem. I did not test that. I'm not sure how the SIM would be related to this. It isn't using the sim when it crashes. It is only using wifi. It works without problem over cellular, using the sim. It does happen with cellular shut off, as well (airplane mode and then only re-enabling wifi). It shouldn't be doing anything with the sim in that situation.
  22. I should add that I've done *hundreds* of wifi speed tests over the past several days, with the phone using 802.11ac on 5.8GHz bands. Those were run on my lan, not for wan measurements and not with the speedtest app. I used a variety of apps, but was mainly using the iperf3 protocols, and pushing the phone to its limits. And I'm *very* pleased with the speed the phone can *send* data over 802.11ac. I just now tested with the phone connected to the 2.4GHz access point, running iperf3 tests to a laptop on the lan and it didn't crash. Those tests approach 100 Mbps, which is much faster t
  23. Definitely possible. The only semi unique things about my setup might be: - Magisk root (no modules used and no changes made by me to any system files) - fastboot was used to enable charging when phone is powered off - I do not have boot security enabled - I did do one factory reset on the 20191203 firmware that my phone shipped after unlocking the bootloader. I then allowed the OTA update to happen to get me to the 20191210 firmware. I then used Magisk manager to patch the boot image and gain root. I then did the final OTA to bring me to 20200106. I did undo root and
  24. I will test this for another day and then do a factory reset to see if it resolves the issue. If it does, then there is a good chance something got left over between OTA updates that the new firmware doesn't like. If @Waxberry or anyone else wants any type of logs before I do that, let me know. If a factory reset fixes the issue, then chance to learn from it will be lost.
