LineageOS 18.1 Official Release for Pro1
Rob. S. replied to Wheeljack's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
Sorry to say I didn't do anything there. I enabled those items which aren't enabled by default back in LOS 17.1, and this is how LOS 18.1 presented them right from the start... -

LineageOS 18.1 Official Release for Pro1

Installed smoothly here by OTA, too – miraculously not only preserving MindTheGapps, but also Magisk! I remembered @marmistrz's instructions from April, kicked off the installation, and when it asked for a reboot, I opened the Magisk app to have it "install to inactive slot" before I would reboot – just to find no such option. A quick internet search led me to a notice by topjohnwu that said "Install to Inactive Slot is disabled in newer builds of the Magisk app due to changes that Google introduced to the OTA process", which dated back to 2020 and also detailed a modified upgrade method -
No, they never worked on anything but stock Android (on my previous phone, as I never had stock on my Pro1)...

LineageOS 18.1 Official Release for Pro1
Rob. S. replied to Wheeljack's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
As far as I can see, after an incoming (and not taken) call, the LED starts flashing in blue, even if it the phone had been charging. So far, I always (I got my phone with LOS 17.1 installed) relied on the screen showing notifications for incoming calls, SMS, other messaging services, E-Mail and such, and I never missed anything. -
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind – although in this case it didn't help! I don't remember clearly whether I had the camera working at least once with the new OS or not before it stopped... But I do remember that I had the same issue right after I got the phone, and that it went away after giving the phone a firm shake or something like that. Didn't work now, either, unfortunately.
-
So now everything looked great after the screen replacement and the upgrade to LineageOS 18.1, and today the rear camera suddenly stopped working. For the OS, it isn't even there anymore, all photo apps see just the front camera. I suspect (and hope) it's just a connector that has become loose somewhere inside the phone. Any idea where I would have to look? This would be my first disassembly of the phone and I'm not an experienced tinkerer...

Now that I finally did the plunge and moved to LineageOS 18.1 (without loss of data, from 17.1, which unfortunately became unsupported the moment 18.1 was out, but I guess that's a reasonable price to pay for the excellent options we get through those alternative ROMs), I thought I'd go the whole way and get root plus SafetyNet out of it, too, thanks to the instructions here. They seemed straightforward enough, and the adb USB connection from my old and trusted Thinkpad had already proven dependable. And it worked like a charm, too! I'm not completely happy with the results, though,

LineageOS 18.1 Official Release for Pro1
Rob. S. replied to Wheeljack's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
Did a "dirty" upgrade from 17.1 to 18.1 (lineage-18.1-20210524-nightly-pro1-signed.zip) today, like it is detailed in the official docs. Went like a charm. Now I just have to remember to either install updates by sideloading or to do that boot trick with Magisk whenever an update comes, because I also installed Magisk (which generally went well, too, but I'll be getting back to that later in the AICP+Magisk+Safetynet thread)... Things look good at first glance, and I even get that special character selection on the display whenever I long-press a key. Didn't need to change anything from 1 -
Just to follow up on this, before it becomes forgotten – my Pro1 is as good as new again, thanks to @EvilDragon!

Anyone able to download the latest Magisk? Magisk.me links to https://bytestransfer.com/download/zelunlw6jjvqzq4hinulxpeey/, but the download button there just re-links to the same page, whether or not I disable my adblocker...? Github is the only source where you can get official Magisk information and downloads.

I use that too, but it does stick out from the phone a bit. But if used in a case or shell, it is not vulnerable. I've been using such magnetic adapters for quite some time, too. Since then, the same cable is good for both USB-C and Micro-USB connectors (as well as Apple's proprietary connector). Plugging and unplugging is much easier and quicker, too, which I especially like in the car. I would like the adapters to be black instead of white/silver for cosmetic reasons, but I don't find them too ugly as they are, either. Perhaps the best feature is that it reduces the wear on the pho

Glass Screen Protector for Pro1/Pro1X
Rob. S. replied to lawliett's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
Just to properly follow this up – I never received it, but I got a refund. And while I was at it, I found out that there had been a Pro¹ screen protector (of the flexible type) lying unused in my drawer all the time, I must have bought it long before I got my phone... and I'll try it soon. Its brand name is 'Brotect', the manufacturer's name is 'Bedifol'. -
I can't tell for the banking app, but I know that the identity token app specifically looks for alternative ROMs like Lineage. The message I get is a bit clearer there.
-
Does the app explicitly complain about 'root', or does it say something more general like 'unsecure phone'? Only a few weeks ago one of my banking apps (Fidor) stopped working on my Pro¹, saying something like 'unsecure phone detected' or some such (can't remember the exact words), and the phone isn't even rooted. The banking app, same as the 'Entrust Identity' app which generates login tokens for my employer's VPN, seems to already see a security issue if it simply finds an alternative ROM like Lineage or AICP. That said, I've heard about the existence of an Xposed module that is suppos

LineageOS 18.1 Official Release for Pro1

That should work from Android 10 so I would say yes. I never tried LOS myself though. I can confirm that it works with LOS 17.1. -
Definitely better than nothing. I'd really like a tightly fitting, as to not make the package even bigger, book-style case/cover (that I wouldn't have to customize myself to make controls and connectors fit properly), though...

Ok, they got it yesterday (DHL took three days instead of one as they used to), and it's already on its way back! Not bad.
-
🙂 Good idea, though after their ticket form already said "we are currently swamped with work, so it may take up to a week or two", I didn't bother. The package is on its way; maybe I'll still try to call them tomorrow to give them the phone's unlock code, as applying the touch area patch is part of the service 👍 and I didn't mention it in my order...

Can't believe it's finally happened. (Cracked Screen)

I've bought two here: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/32956500815.html (Elephone U Pro, not Elephone U) – there are more than 500 pieces available, although they have become substantially more expensive ($68.99 for one, instead of the $39.32 I paid).... -

Yes, indeed. That said, the "packstations" are property of DHL, and no other parcel service may use them... (This is what comes from three decades of pro-privatisation, pro-competition and against-public-services politics...) And DHL usually are the ones who actually do ring the bell and wait for someone to open, or otherwise leave a note and deposit the parcel at the postoffice to be collected... -

While some parcel services tried that here in Germany pre-corona or around the time when the plague had just started, for a long time now most of them just drop parcels in front of the door and leave. If I'm lucky, they at least ring the bell once before the leave. As long as everything actually gets delivered, which so far has always been the case for me, I'm alright with it for the time being... -
Seeing that my display now has also developed two thin, bright beams coming out of the 5mm black hole I had managed to create in it by dropping the device, so it's not exactly getting better, and with me still being buried in other work, now thanks to @EvilDragon's announcement I decided to book his replacement service, even though I already have bought two displays (and a heat gun!) elsewhere – which I'll keep as spares... I'll report how it goes! Being in the same country, at least that will reduce shipping durations to a minimum...

Oh, ok, then I got that wrong! Yes, it's FxTec's obligation then.
