  1. I use that too, but it does stick out from the phone a bit. But if used in a case or shell, it is not vulnerable. I've been using such magnetic adapters for quite some time, too. Since then, the same cable is good for both USB-C and Micro-USB connectors (as well as Apple's proprietary connector). Plugging and unplugging is much easier and quicker, too, which I especially like in the car. I would like the adapters to be black instead of white/silver for cosmetic reasons, but I don't find them too ugly as they are, either. Perhaps the best feature is that it reduces the wear on the pho
  2. Just to properly follow this up – I never received it, but I got a refund. And while I was at it, I found out that there had been a Pro¹ screen protector (of the flexible type) lying unused in my drawer all the time, I must have bought it long before I got my phone... and I'll try it soon. Its brand name is 'Brotect', the manufacturer's name is 'Bedifol'.
  3. I can't tell for the banking app, but I know that the identity token app specifically looks for alternative ROMs like Lineage. The message I get is a bit clearer there.
  4. Does the app explicitly complain about 'root', or does it say something more general like 'unsecure phone'? Only a few weeks ago one of my banking apps (Fidor) stopped working on my Pro¹, saying something like 'unsecure phone detected' or some such (can't remember the exact words), and the phone isn't even rooted. The banking app, same as the 'Entrust Identity' app which generates login tokens for my employer's VPN, seems to already see a security issue if it simply finds an alternative ROM like Lineage or AICP. That said, I've heard about the existence of an Xposed module that is suppos
  5. That should work from Android 10 so I would say yes. I never tried LOS myself though. I can confirm that it works with LOS 17.1.
  6. Definitely better than nothing. I'd really like a tightly fitting, as to not make the package even bigger, book-style case/cover (that I wouldn't have to customize myself to make controls and connectors fit properly), though...
  7. Ok, they got it yesterday (DHL took three days instead of one as they used to), and it's already on its way back! Not bad.
  8. 🙂 Good idea, though after their ticket form already said "we are currently swamped with work, so it may take up to a week or two", I didn't bother. The package is on its way; maybe I'll still try to call them tomorrow to give them the phone's unlock code, as applying the touch area patch is part of the service 👍 and I didn't mention it in my order...
  9. I've bought two here: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/32956500815.html (Elephone U Pro, not Elephone U) – there are more than 500 pieces available, although they have become substantially more expensive ($68.99 for one, instead of the $39.32 I paid)....
  10. Yes, indeed. That said, the "packstations" are property of DHL, and no other parcel service may use them... (This is what comes from three decades of pro-privatisation, pro-competition and against-public-services politics...) And DHL usually are the ones who actually do ring the bell and wait for someone to open, or otherwise leave a note and deposit the parcel at the postoffice to be collected...
  11. While some parcel services tried that here in Germany pre-corona or around the time when the plague had just started, for a long time now most of them just drop parcels in front of the door and leave. If I'm lucky, they at least ring the bell once before the leave. As long as everything actually gets delivered, which so far has always been the case for me, I'm alright with it for the time being...
  12. Seeing that my display now has also developed two thin, bright beams coming out of the 5mm black hole I had managed to create in it by dropping the device, so it's not exactly getting better, and with me still being buried in other work, now thanks to @EvilDragon's announcement I decided to book his replacement service, even though I already have bought two displays (and a heat gun!) elsewhere – which I'll keep as spares... I'll report how it goes! Being in the same country, at least that will reduce shipping durations to a minimum...
  13. Oh, ok, then I got that wrong! Yes, it's FxTec's obligation then.
  14. Wasn't @DieBruine the sender? At least here in Europe, I think the sender is the one responsible for the package and its delivery, and it's his job to open a claim with the parcel service if it didn't reach the destination. The addressee has not part in it and no legal means towards the parcel service. (I once had a dispute with Hermes – with the difference being Hermes never claimed successful delivery of the package –, and I needed to go through quite some paperwork, and it took quite some time and the parcel never showed up again, but in the end I at least got sufficient compensation..
  15. Interesting; I asked for a replacement screen on March 16 and heard nothing since then, didn't even get an autoresponder mail. The only good news in your report seems to be that FxTec actually seems to have replacement screens (or at least had some in early March). Did you write to info@fxtec.com or support@fxtec.com (don't know whether this matters, asking just in case it might)?
  16. I've just installed the brand new Android beta of Softmaker Office, which some may know from the desktop as an alternative for MIcrosoft Office with good compatibility that is also available for Linux. For desktop there's an already well-featured free version and a full-featured commercial version. For Android there will be two such versions as well. Right now, the free time-limited beta (general availability is expected for May) has, or so I believe, all features. The first impression is quite nice. I would hate having to use a screen keyboard, though 😉 https://www.softmaker.com/en/
  17. Seems if you can still find one on ebay, it may already be modded to take a SIM card, like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/174709456691 But I guess the specs are too low now for still being usable, the Photon Q is 8 years old now and has only 1 GB of RAM. In 2016, when I had been overusing my second HTC Desire Z aka HTC Vision for so long that it wasn't usable anymore, I thought about getting such a modded Photon Q instead, but I decided that it wouldn't have been enough of a progress over the HTC for me to bother even then. Also, its 4G frequencies didn't include the band used here in Ger
  18. Or an Elephone U Pro with intact display, then at least the display could serve as a spare for the Pro1 😉 (That said, I just had a quick look and didn't find any used ones, only a few new ones for 300+ €, and stock Android doesn't seem to go beyond Android 8...)
  19. Good news indeed! Although I see some additional "7-10 days" there in the video for "internal redesigns" because of unavoidable differences in the new PCB, if I understood it correctly...
  20. Lately, my 'Chargies' began misbehaving, or rather the Pro1 (which I've found to work as well with the device as my Moto Z3 Play did) started failing in trying to connect (which goes through bluetooth). In trying to analyze the situation at one point I tried switching bluetooth off and on – just that it didn't come on anymore. The bluetooth symbol lit up in 'connecting' state but went gray again after after a few seconds. Only after a reboot bluetooth became usable again – only not for long. 'Chargie' connections began to fail again soon, and switching bluetooth off required a reboot for it to
  21. Yes, indeed! Thank you very much! I just hope the problem with international characters 18.1 obviously has can somehow be either solved or worked around; until then, I have to stay at 17.1...
  22. Yes, but – if I understood this correctly – as it is missing a device specific key which they would need to get from the manufacturer, something which only is being attempted when a device-specific TWRP is really 'done' and fine to get the 'official' status, it won't decrypt data and therefore is useless for backups, unfortunately.
