Something as rare as an app that seems to work in landscape only 🙂

Someone must realize that videos should only be shot and viewed in landscape. :-)

Has anyone tested Bottom Quick Settings - Notification Customization and One-Handed Mode with Pro1? Pro1 is quite big phone so I am looking for some helpful apps to make usage little bit more easier. Even so I am mostly going to use it with two hands on landscape, sometimes I need to operate one handed.

Tried the second, not the first. And others too. Though they to a large extent works most of the time, there always are some apps where they do not.

My GUESS is that the Android api offers info on both physical and logical display sizes, and if an app incorrectly rely on the physical size, things does not act as you would expect.

The least bad I've seen affected the touch zone only. But that will prevent scroll-bars like in the Settings, Apps list to work properly.

Hi,

I use TabNotes (from cc-rom) for general note taking and todo lists all the time and I find it is well suited to landscape mode. I can switch between tabs using my left thumb without having to take my hands off the keys (although I just realized some keyboard shortcuts need to be added). TabNotes doesn't have a huge user base, but a few people find it useful and the Pro1 is ideally for the app.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cc.rom.tabnotes

Disclaimer, I wrote the app myself when I couldn't find anything that worked the way I wanted with a physical keyboard. The app is free (no advertising, no hidden fees, no profit) and I will try to fix bugs and add features when I have time. Let me know if you have any suggestions or comments on the app website (no need to clutter up the Pro1 forums).

Was looking for an app that could activate the screen when opening the front cover (like on my XPeria X, which uses a magnetic sensor).
Found WaveUp on the F-Droid Store. The app uses the proximity sensor and works excellently in both portrait and landscape.

https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.jarsilio.android.waveup/

It is in the official Android Market too https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jarsilio.android.waveup

Does anyone have a suggestion on a good Notes application (preferably free and not filled with annoying ads)?

On my priv I had tried the standard Google Keep and didn't like it much.  Actually I might have used Keep to initially manually enter (on PC) the notes exported from a Nokia E7 backup and then sent them all into Blackberry Notes.  I found the Blackberry Notes to be better.  In recent years Blackberry added the ability to backup your notes to google drive using the their content transfer application.  As such, I'm able to get an XML file of all my notes that hopefully can be used to import into a suggested replacement.

For the time being I installed the Blackberry Notes application on my FxTec Pro 1 and got the notes moved over; however, if I want to keep using the Blackberry apps I'm going to have to pay $1 monthly.  I'd prefer not to do that.  In another thread someone mentioned this link which may bypass the subscription: https://cobalt232.github.io/blackberrymanager/

If you don't mind cloud-based apps, I have always really liked Simplenote.  It is free, ad free and has desktop versions for Windows, Linux and Mac.  Does plain text and markdown. Lives up to it's name. It has nice tag based filtering.

EDIT: Forgot which thread we were in.  Yes, it handles landscape just fine. 🙂 Though probably, to be fair, no better than most.

Has Total Commander been mentioned yet? My primary file manager app on any Android device. Works in landscape very well since it allows for two panels side-by-side. It can be fully controlled by the hw keyboard, including tab to switch panels, arrow keys and enter to navigate folders. Can't live without. 🙂

There are three email clients recommended in this thread / based on the first post.  Two of them a K9 related / based from and the other is Aqua Mail.  I tried K9 last night and apparently it work work with gmail unless you turn on two factor authentication (which appears to mean I would have to get a text message code each time I want to use gmail from a copmuter -- no thanks).  Aqua Mail looked fine, but the free version only lets you setup a single account.

Anyone have other suggestions which will allow for multiple accounts and will work with gmail?  I might be stuck staying with BlackBerry Hub Inbox, which might not be too terrible since I am used to it from my Priv, but I was hoping to switch to something more standard.  I don't like the public gmail app as I want to manage multiple accounts outside of gmail and also don't want messaging combined as I believe it was combining across accounts when I tried on a samsung tablet.

Fairmail is pretty good, but the trick is, even though it is open source, you have to get it from the Play Store or it won't be able to set up Gmail.  Apparently Gmail makes a playstore check so if you get Fairmail from F-Droid, it doesn't work with Gmail accounts. But it is quite good and free (which it sounds like you want).

Question, does Youtube Vanced work well in Pro1 with physical keyboard? Flashing it with twrp works well?

Yes and No.  Yes, youtube vanced works fine.   But can't flash anything to Anrdoid with twrp right now.  I used the youtube vanced magisk module.

So I think I've settled on the email and notes apps that I am going to use going forward so I wanted to share.  @EskeRahn please add to the primary post.

Email:
BlueMail (apk: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.bluemail.mail) (developer site: https://bluemail.me/) (reviews 4.6 from 500k people) (5 million + downloads)
- free and ad-free
- support multiple accounts from different sources
- supports gmail oauth2 / using google accounts setup on your device
- widgets for each account that update with unread count, message preview widgets too
- not open source, which I was hoping to find in a good client
- landscape friendly

Notes:
Standard Notes (apk: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.standardnotes) (developer site: https://standardnotes.org/) (reviews 4.0 from 1k people) (50k + downloads)
- free and ad-free (they do sell an extensions subscription with extra features -- see: https://standardnotes.org/extensions)
- fully encrypted on device and online backups
- accessible from any device (android, ios, windows, mac, linux, web browser)
- some conversion tools on their website which helped me figure out the format and with the help of notepad++, excel, and a few hours of my time, I was able to convert the notes from blackberry priv into the Standard Notes JSON format and import all of them! =)
- ability to export / backup manually
- plain text editor with subject, tags for each note; searching; autosave
- landscape friendly

If only the Pro 1 had a proper desktop mode. I just plugged my phone into my work MacBook's dock and it looks ridiculously large...

I believe Android supports a "free form window mode" that could be workable. I'm too lazy to look up how to enable it right now but I'm sure you can find it. I recall it requires putting a permission file into system.
