  1. The soft button is the least bad option available for me too. Personally I would wish Android made a "Late auto-rotate". That is you would have to tilt it to say 90+30 degrees before it tilted 90 (and you tilt it back to 90). This way you could lie down on a sofa with the device without triggering the auto rotate, and only get the rotate when you actually want/need it, and more inuitivly than pressing the soft button.
  2. It is the wrong forum for this (but in this thread it just drowns anyway...) I wonder how it causes you so much troubles? The extremely frequent crashes mentioned are completely unknown to me, I can not remember how long back it last crashed. It might even be back to when it was still on Lollipop.... The only thing I can think of is that the 808 being the smaller sibling to the notorious 810, so It does heat on extensive use. And heat can cause it to shut down as a security measure, So if you use it extensively, and especially if combined with fast wireless charging, things can heat up quite
  3. It all falls back to the communication. IF they were better to make clear that what they were saying were estimates or plans, and not a guarantee that things were going to happen exactly as they hoped. And yes they have been very optimistic. (Always easy to see with hindsight). I guess they too have taken optimistic estimates they get at face value, and have not added enough slack to whatever obstacles that could occur. But now that they have produced some, they should be in a position where they have more control, and fewer external unknowns, and thus their estimates are likely to be clo
  4. I did not find the Priv as bad, except the 808, but apart from that it worked reasonably well for me, the worst being the keyboard in the wrong direction. I guess it is much a matter of usage pattern.
  5. "Activity launcher" can map to literally hundreds of different tasks, maybe that can do what you want?
  6. I have had confirmation, that is indeed the fallback plan. 😊
  7. And here is the core the "will do". If you replace it with "expect to do" / "hope to do" / "plan to do" / .... you will change from the paranoid version to reality. We all know they are really bad at communication, and should be much more clear in stating their predictions with these kind of conjunctives rather than stating future things as facts. As this so easily will be interpreted as promises, and thus as broken when things did not go as planned due to things out of their control. Do not get my wrong, I'm not saying that they will get things done before CNY either. Just that it i
  8. Why should you not? For all we know they have been bad at ESTIMATING what will happen. Has there been any case where they told us something that was incorrect at the time? They might have done otherwise than they estimated/planned - for whatever reason. But that is certainly not the same as not telling the truth.
  9. You conveniently forgot to mention that Erik stated that the "big batch" that was said to be about "3/10" was already produced. So when they can produce 3/10 quickly the remaining about 5/10 does not seem impossible with increased workforce.
  10. Oh do not get me wrong, it is not that the layouts are totally wrong, they are just generic android layouts not suited for the Pro1. e.g. the A-Z and 0-9 are OK for the languages based on QWERTY, matching the letter shifted qwerty print. But the rest is a bit random e.g. you can not get neither ? nor / in any way with neither proper English or US English selected.
  11. I would like that as an option too. But let the user choose. It is not an issue if the Pro1 is in a flip case, with the flip on the button side, but it is an issue if used without. For the unit in a plain shell type case (and I would guess the same with a flip to the other side) it only very rarely happens, so here it is a matter of taste if you would want the option On or Off..
  12. I have tried to open all the files and look at the content, and they are RO for a non rooted device anyway.
  13. Well if they are all handled in one go, it is a matter of hours or at worst a few days between the first and the last, so I guess they might well have decided it was not worth the extra paperwork to distinguish. But they might still be doing it ordered. Who knows. Maybe they can speed up the shipments by doing it by country, So the courier has less sorting to do? Just guessing.
  14. Ah sorry, Yes you are right that might very well be how it is supposed to be read.
  15. Maybe this info should be promoted into this thread:
  16. Yes he is really responsive to input, so if you have any good ideas, throw them in. Also note that he added Czech very swiftly, so who knows, he might be persuaded to do a standard French AZERTY too, though that of course would still have have the QWERT prints. ...Also a very modest guy, so he is not likely to point to the existence of the Donate button on his site himself... 😇
  17. The white and grey background means normal respectively combining (aka 'dead') key matching the print, and what the stock driver gives. The light&dark red is the same, but NOT matching what is printed on the keyboard, but what FinQwerty offers.
  18. No. Now they are talking about all the rest of the pre-orders. The "big batch" mentioned for 1. week was said to to cover "3/10"
  19. If that is your approach to analogies, you better never try to read the Bible. 🤣
  20. The ONLY one that make sense to select is the German one, the rest are stock android (well all the ones I tried....), not fitting the hardware (Neither the qwertZ nor the letter shifted qwertY) properly. The two 'lists' of screen-dumps are NOT related, so the big question is where all these named language layouts are actually defined, when not in the .kl and .kcm? Note that the ones from FinQwerty on the selection list is not part of stock, and should be ignored in this context.
  21. I would put it otherwise. for those that has not already pre ordered, the benefit of ordering now rather than when F(x)tec got it in stock for 'next-day-send' will be limited to getting it a few days faster, unless the demand will be so massive that they will have trouble with keeping up the supply with he demand.
  22. Yes and a couple of them exploded in an exponential way in the last couple of days. Honestly I don't think that any of the items (including the Pro1) has even 500 fair votes....
  23. Personally my last real slider was the Xperia (Neo) Pro from 2011, but it also has a bit of compromise about it, the top was non-tilted, had large bezels and low resolution. And the space was quite limited, so things needed to be moved to an SD almost from day one. So it feels like waiting more than 10 years though it strictly was not.
  24. Actually I think that one would be fairly easy, as it is a 'mat' and not individual keys.
  25. ...And the phone got all these hardware keyboard layout (skipped most of the FinQwerty ones not relevant here) They must be defined in one or more files somewhere, but I've been unable to guess what to look for, scanned the device for .kl and .kcm files, and only found in the two subdirectories above, so most likely they are called something else. Also looked for .idc noticed that most, except the Japanese, have the app name "Android keyboard" under it so maybe they are buried in an APK?
