Also, they are definitively not amateurs if we are speaking about engineering (electrical, mechanical, etc...) If they would be amateurs then they could not build up a complete phone from scratch which meets regulations, works reliably and looks robust... It would be good to have an option to define custom layouts as well. I have not even tried to locate appropriate files under Android but I hope the system can be easily modified to achieve this (however, I strongly think root access will be required), so I mean a somewhat similar way what worked under my N900. I think it is hard to have "easier" a real meaning in this case. None of them seems to be easy, but Samsung has experience in phone manufacturing and has relatively high amount of money to work with. It is really not a cheap thing and someone had to make a risky decision to create a flexible display keeping in mind that if the project fails or taking too much time, it causes loss for the company but when they can really come up with a working solution, it places the company at a higher rank. This way, the worst case loss can also be payed by the company without a general breakdown.

If something similar was existed in the past it does not mean it is easy to do it again or even adapt older concepts. A lot of things have changed. There are a lot of newer technologies, the number of supported frequency bands have greatly improved, the antenna system have to be highly different which may also affects other design considerations. If you are not using Linux regularly, a Knoppix may be a fast solution to try this. (It can be copied to a bootable USB device, then you can boot into a Linux which has usable GUI and I think it has all the tools needed.)

Do these files have different case of characters (lower case and capitals in the name) which are different in these files? Under Linux, those types of files are treated as different, but under Windows, they are the same (duplicate names). You may try to modify it under Linux.

Regardless of when they have shipped these phones or what happened in the background about other potential problems, I would like to mention that customs exists both at sender and recipient countries. So if the package is again at customs potentially means it has left China customs, they traveled to recipient country where is currently at local customs. So this information seems to be valid as this is the normal process of international shipments.

I am also hope so. Anyway, some of us (who are in the first batch and received mails) may receive valid tracking numbers during this week and maybe they will receive their phone soon.
