LineageOS 20.0 Official Release for Pro1
Hook replied to CornholioGSM's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
lineage-20.0-20230213-nightly-pro1-signed installed smoothly over OTA. Still January 5th security patch. I discovered after that I no longer had root, but since I don't actually use root very often, I don't know if it was this OTA that undid it. I reflashed Magisk V25 as a zip and all went well. V25 does make you jump through a few more hoops than older versions did when you use this depreciated method. It does make you download and update the app, during which it does the whatever with the boot stuff. But it's easy and painless. I only use it to give superuser permissions-- it use -

This is a user to user forum. We know as much as you do. -
Ugh, my mistake. Sorry. I lost track of the fact that you were dealing with the original Pro1, not the Pro1x. They are not the same. That's why its handy to have your model listed under your avatar (see thread pinned to top of forum). So sorry for my senior moment... 😞

No, our understanding is that they have been manufactured and are finally shipping slowly after being held up by the logistics contractor. -

I'm sorry you see it that way. I certainly am not fighting with you and mostly agree with you. I'm merely pointing out, and I think it more than trivial, that even more money was needed than just for starting a new phone, FxTec ran an IGG campaign to create a special edition of the Pro1 with more memory and alternate OSs. This was a device already in production, they just needed parts. Lineage was ready to go and UT was well on it's way (I don't know the latter, just the impression I had from others). They raised money for this limited scope project with the IGG campaign. They later -

The second part of that same sentence was "...despite having paid for the components back in December when our campaign officially ended." 😉 -

Sorry, I wasn't clear. The only thing I disagreed about was the "realized they could no longer purchase" part of the quote because it implied they hadn't yet spent (and lost, I believe) the money. The rest was spot on. -

Actually, I believe this is incorrect. According to the Feb 2021 update, they did indeed purchase the SD835 SOCs and then then their source failed to deliver. They gave no details of what happened to that money, which was from our contributions, but I don't think they were given a quick refund and it probably set off legal challenges. -
Is this what you already tried?
-
I gave my local shop both that and the screen changing video and they are keeping them on file. They are willing to tackle it if it ever comes up. They will certainly do better than I would.
-
Then your girlfriend would send the phone in for repairs to the UK, as I have (from the US) twice with my Pro 1. I wouldn't choose to do what @mattockdid either. I'm not very technical. Stuff happens, but I've always had good CS from F(x) Tec. While he said anyone can, I wouldn't, and I don't think he said everyone should.
-
Ummmm... I'm not sure what you are disagreeing with. @mattockdidn't say it was a good thing to have to recover from a dead battery, or that Lineage shouldn't have been pre-installed. He just said being able to get Lineage was what finally motivated him to figure out the battery. 😄

Just to clarify, I am assuming (because you said expensive) you are referring to getting the complete setup from FxTec that includes the frame. Nice! I will always go that route if I need a replacement as long as they are available.
-
The first thing I think of is Firefly. Or were you referring to your case? ;-)
-
Yup! That works great!
-
Nah. They don't work here either. I even tried 2 different browsers and my phone as well. :)

It really depends on what you mean by "planned." My take on things is that F (X) Tec took business orders (probably early on, as @EskeRahn suggested) that would be shipped once the perks had been shipped. The perks (and website orders) were palleted (I'm assuming the pictures weren't fake)and sent from the factory to the Expansys logistics operation. All seemed good, so the retail orders were triggered. Then they were hit with the contract dispute. But while our units were stuck, the businesses were able to get the devices (they were no doubt direct shipped from the factory) as they were n -
Assuming this is January 2023 (they didn't have screens available in Jan 2022), to be honest, that's really not that long, especially if they are setting up something new. This is a very small operation. But, lets see if we can get @Casey's attention.

I don't have a Pro1x, but I believe the process of updating Lineage is the same as for the Pro1 and I will answer your questions from that assumption. Your steps 1-5 are correct except that, after you do the adb sideload, you need to reboot to recovery. This is because the update (which is actually the full installation with the updates) is installed to the inactive slot. Rebooting to recovery makes the inactive slot active. Now when you do step 5, you will be actually booting up the update. A. There is no formal backup for either the Pro1 or Pro1x. No TWRP. You can backup your

@Caseymight want to make a note of this theory and see if they have any data or a way to look into it.

I don't have a Pro1x, and it has been so long since I had stock, I can't say for stock. But, yes, with Lineage OS on the Pro 1, you can do that. Under settings>display>rotation settings, you can actually allow or exclude all or any of 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees. I don't use autorotate at all, just using the built in ability of the Pro1 to change from landscape to portrait by opening and closing the keyboard. In addition, there's a clever little lock-unlock icon that pops up that can be used in special cases. When I open Kindle, I leave the keyboard out and turn the screen so it is

This is like the AlieExpress merchant who figured out that the Elephone U Pro screen could be used for the F(x) Tec Pro 1 and relabeled the screen (and, then, in this case, jacked up the price-- you can get Elephone U Pro screens much cheaper on Alie Express). 😄 https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804530146022.html?gatewayAdapt=deu2usa4itemAdapt&_randl_shipto=US

Also, if all you want is root (SU) and you don't care about magisk modules, you can simply use the depreciated method of renaming the magisk file changing the .apk extension to .zip and then using adb sideload to flash it in recovery the same way you do MindTheGapps. I'm not sure you can't also still use Magisk modules that way, but since I don't use them, I can't say. I never even open the Magisk app, but it gives root to any app that asks permission and I say ok.

I'm a little confused by your descriptions. When you reboot to bootloader using adb, you should get the bootloader screen which is the same as your first screen shot way above except I think it says "START" in green at the top. I don't think it matters if you use the volume control to change what is at the top to "RECOVERY mode" because those are options you are scrolling through, but nothing changes unless you press power. That bootloader screen (with "START" or whatever at the top) is the bootloader. That is where fastboot is used. Going into recovery mode (by pressing the power button)
