Pro1X, Remap physical camera button to different camera app?
FlyingAntero replied to Logan's topic in General Discussion
You can use Keyboard/Button Mapper to launch any camera app via long press. However you will lose ability to take pictures (or at least it was like that with Pro1). -
Long term support/updates? Warranty?
FlyingAntero replied to Joe Smithers's topic in General Discussion
F(x)tec is providing 2 years warranty and software updates "as long as they can". My warranty claim was processed without issues but in some cases there has been some delays. I think that most of them was caused by COVID-19 so maybe situation is better now regarding repairs. Great thing is also that you are able to purchase spare parts if needed. Unfortunately, software support for Pro1 has already ended because there was some issues with the partner that F(x)tec used. Let's hope that situation will be better with Pro1-X. Never the less, F(x)tec is supporting custom ROM development so the -
Pro1 supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 which is not compatible with USB PD. Support for USB PD came with QC 4.0. Snapdragon 835 can support QC 4.0 but for Pro1 only QC 3.0 was activated. Qualcomm announces the Snapdragon 835 with Quick Charge 4.0 For that reason Pro1 cannot utilize the full potential of your USB PD 65W charger. Here are the specs of your charger ports: - Type C1/Type C2 Output: 5 V/9 V/12 V/15 V/ 3A; 20 V/ 3.25 A - USB1 output: 5 V / 1.0 A - USB2 output: 5 V/9 V/12 V/20 V, 3 A Theoretically QC 3.0 can support 12V/3A=36W mode but I am not sure if P

Pro¹ X – state of production and delivery
FlyingAntero replied to Rob. S.'s topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
There has been delays for sure but so far F(x)tec has not shown any sign that they wouldn't deliver in the end. Original Pro1 orders were delayed but most got their phones (and if you ordered later on then order was changed to Pro1-X). Of course there can be financial obstacles but I think that F(x)tec is doing everything that they are able to deliver phones. IGG backers took the risk but pre-orders are more secured. -
Thanks for the info. I was aware of the court thing but I did not know who was the other player. I thought that it was the supplier of the SD835 chips. BTW, do we know who is the manufacturer of Pro1-X?

That is why I said in the previous message that I don't know the reason behind this. I know that IdeaLTE was responsible for the software development. However, we did not have promised 90 days security updates in the first place so was there some issues with the co-operation between F(x)tec and IdeaLTE or was the cost an issue? Now it seems that IdeaLTE website is down so maybe they just disappeared. I have not seen any official statement about this.

Yes, I know that. That is the reason why I am hoping longer support for Pro1-X. However, custom ROMs are better than nothing for Pro1. https://www.xda-developers.com/how-android-security-patch-updates-work/ "This means custom ROM developers are at the mercy of whatever OEM they're developing for, and if the OEM releases updated blobs or not. This is fine for devices that are still updated by the manufacturer, but for devices that aren't, the patches applied can only be applied to the Android framework and the Linux kernel. This is why LineageOS' Trust Interface shows two security pat

Even so that Snapdragon 835 devices reached their EOL on Feb 2022 (Linux kernel LTS) Qualcomm is still delivering some security updates to SD835 chipset. Also, Pixel 2 phones (same SD835 chip) received Android 11 update and security updates to the end of 2020 (or to April 2021 if you were Preferred Care customer). Considering that last update for Pro1 was on Aug 2020 (April 2020 security level and Android 9) things could have gone better. I don't know what was the reason that updates stopped and we never received Android 10, monthly security updates or Widevine fix. Maybe software develop

Is there any custom ROM available for Pro1 that includes SafetyNet patches in the firmware? To my understanding it also requires that GAPPS are preinstalled. I know how to install SafetyNet patches with root afterwards but I would like to have more user friendly solution. Hiding root for some apps can be pain in the ass in the long run (cat and mouse game). I have Xperia XZ1 Compact with Havoc OS custom ROM (Android 12) and it passes SafetyNet without any mods. All banking apps works etc. Would like to have the same for Pro1.

Bumb! I have also used QWERTZ unit which has some issues with the usb port (no fast charging every time). However, I have the spare part usb module for it. I was planning to fix it myself and continue to use but I might start to use "new" QWERTY unit also depending which one will be sold. So you can make an offer for "new" QWERTY or used QWERTZ. Both are Pro1 models. Edit: I fixed the USB port of used QWERTZ unit. I changed the whole usb board. No issues anymore. Edit2: QWERTY sold

Pro¹ X – state of production and delivery

Unfortunately, this seems to be very similar situation that Jolla had with crowdfunded tablets back in 2015. Jolla had some financial issues and was not able to pay already produced units to the manufacturer. Then manufacturer decided to sell the tablets. Jolla tried to buy some units back but was able to get small batch to the backers. - https://reviewjolla.blogspot.com/2016/02/jolla-tablets-in-china.html?m=1 - https://blog.jolla.com/jolla-tablet-closure/ Hopefully F(x)tec can either produce more units or get phones back from Expansys. -
*Sold* I am selling an unused Pro1 QWERTY unit. I have just once powered it on to check that everything is OK. I got it as a warranty replacement but already bought used unit during waiting. It will be delivered in the original box with usb-cable, charger, charger adapters and protective bag. I am located in Finland but I can also sent the phone. I have never actually shipped anything outside Finland but at least inside EU it should be possible. I am asking 700 EUR (+shipping).

LineageOS 18.1 Official Release for Pro1
FlyingAntero replied to Wheeljack's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
@claude0001 Once you switch to official Lineage OS release you can then upgrade using "dirty flash" without losing data. So you don't need to configure and set up everything again. Of course if you have done serious modifications with root etc. then dirty flash might not be possible. Also, LOS 18.1 includes SeedVault backup option which is an alternative to Google solution. LineageOS adopts SeedVault as its open source backup solution https://calyxinstitute.org/projects/seedvault-encrypted-backup-for-android -
LineageOS 18.1 Official Release for Pro1
FlyingAntero replied to Wheeljack's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
You need to change ALPHA => FULL. Then you are able to make changes. Of course you will lose some features (like long press menu). This should do the trick. adb push Builtin_Keyboard_MODIFIED.kcm /sdcard/Download/ adb shell su mount -o remount,rw /vendor cp /vendor/usr/keychars/Builtin_Keyboard.kcm /sdcard/Download/Builtin_Keyboard_ORIGINAL.kcm cp /sdcard/Download/Builtin_Keyboard_MODIFIED.kcm /vendor/usr/keychars/Builtin_Keyboard.kcm chmod 644 /vendor/usr/keychars/Builtin_Keyboard.kcm reboot Edit: Example https://pastebin.com/795Puukx -
LineageOS 18.1 Official Release for Pro1
FlyingAntero replied to Wheeljack's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
Yeah, that is a pity. I have been talking about this earlier. Currently I cannot write @ symbol with QWERTZ using Finnish layout. It is possible to modify KCM file with root but it is a quite hassle. Anyway I upgraded from official LOS 17.1 to 18.1 without issues (dirty flash). Just downloaded the files to my se card and flashed them vie LOS recovery. No need for PC and ADB access. Recovery will be updated automatically when you flash LOS 18.1. Place the files to sd card Reboot to LOS recovery Click Apply Update, then Apply from sd card and select LOS zip Wait unti -

You have probably enabled "Power button ends call" feature from Accessibility settings. Disabling that feature should allow you to answer calls. However, I don't know what causes black screen.

That does not affect to Snapdragon 835 directly since I don't believe that Qualcomm has manufactured these chips for a while. However, the situation might that the supplier sold rest of its SD835 chips to someone else if they were willing to pay more than F(x)tec. Maybe the price went up for old CPUs because there is global shortage for new chips. F(x)tec had already paid the chips before hand (maybe lower price).

It is possible to upgrade the storage and RAM chip but you would need special tools for it. I have seen people doing it with Nexus devices. Also, RAM and CPU are usually tied together (soldered on top of each other) which makes it even harder process. Nexus 5 Hardware Modded to 64GB Internal Storage By Replacing eMMC Nexus 5X Hardware Modded to Upgrade RAM from 2GB to 4GB I checked what chips were used with the QX1000 test device for FCC. QX1000 Smartphone Teardown Internal Photos internal Photox FX Technology It had probably 4GB RAM and 64GB storage even so that Sams

The situation is basically the same than previously. Pro1 price was about 700$ and you were able to buy SD730G devices about +300$ (like Mi 10 Note). You always have to pay some extra for the integrated keyboard. I am willing to pay that extra. Also, keep in mind that many sites have reviewed Poco M3 4/64Gb. If 6/128Gb unit was reviewed the performance was little bit better (also UFS 2.1 compared to UFS 2.0). 4Gb is quite little now days but 6Gb is OK and 8Gb good for everything.

I think that you are doing just fine with SD662 for those tasks if you are not expecting most snappiest experience. I have checked few Poco M3 reviews (SD662, FullHD+ screen, 4/64Gb or 6/128Gb) and the performance is sufficient for everyday tasks. - https://www.notebookcheck.net/Xiaomi-Poco-M3-Smartphone-Review-The-150-Euro-smartphone.515467.0.html - https://www.androidauthority.com/poco-m3-review-1198097/

SD662 (Q1 2020) is almost the same chip than SD665 (Q2 2019). I think that both chips will be supported to same date. Same goes for SD732G (2020 Q3) and SD730G (2019 Q2). So, I don't think that there is difference between SD730G vs SD662 in the life cycle. And there is also SD720G (2020 Q1) which is as old as SD662. I think that it is all about the cost. Personally I would ditch 48MP camera sensor if that could save some money for SD700 series. But if the SD662 is the only choice then I take it.
