matf 322
From the latest update: The available engraving area must have been increased in the end. I remember mine (top left, IGG contest reward) used all available space in height and width in the demonstration render they provided, but I see the lunar module in the bottom row is much higher. Not a complaint at all, it is good news for those who wanted bigger logos! Edited May 24 by matf
Rob. S. 1,203
Here's the complete message: Quote posted by FX Technology May 24, 2022 • 5:29AM PDT Pro1-X Manufacturing Update - May Dear Pro1-X backers, Here are the latest manufacturing and shipping updates: Mass Manufacturing As you can see from our last two updates, the factory has been hard at work assembling your Pro1-X’s. Due to the intricate design of this device and its unique hardware features, we have imposed thorough QC checks at multiple stages of the production line to ensure the highest quality standards are met. Engraved Devices Our team has also almost finished the engraved Pro1-X perks. Check out some of the engraving designs below: OS Development Whilst our manufacturing and assembly line is full steam ahead, there is a slight delay with the OS development. Switching from the SD835 to SD662 chipset has meant that existing development for Ubuntu Touch and Lineage OS is no longer applicable. The software and hardware functionality must be re-done for the new SD662 chipset. Community developers have been sent pre-production units, but are still undergoing thorough testing for Lineage OS, and Ubuntu Touch OS. This process can not be rushed because we want to make sure that your Pro1-X’s are shipped with full useability and functionality. With this in mind, those that have opted for Lineage OS or Ubuntu Touch OS will have to wait slightly longer before their order can be shipped. Once the community development team is happy with the status of both OS’s we can continue to ship your devices! Please note, that delayed shipping does not apply to Android OS backers. Those that have opted for Android OS will still receive their Pro1-X’s once mass manufacturing has finished. Lineage OS & Ubuntu Touch OS backers: Please choose from the following options: Keep your chosen OS & wait for developers to finish software testing. Your Pro1-X will be shipped slightly later than Android backers. Change your OS to Android. Your Pro1-X will now ship with Android OS instead of Lineage or Ubuntu OS, and your perk will be shipped with no delays. Email [email protected]. Subject: ‘Indiegogo Android OS’ Include your full name and contribution number. Please note, if you change your OS to Android we will provide documentation on how to flash your Pro1-X to Lineage OS or Ubuntu Touch OS yourself (once the software is available to use and stable). Shipping The factory has almost finished assembly, which means that your Pro1-X’s are just about ready to ship! We are just waiting on the final GMS tests to be approved before we can go ahead with the OS flashing and mass shipment of devices. Whilst we do not expect this to take any longer than 2 weeks, we will update you as soon as we have heard back / received final approval. In the meantime, we will continue to send out regular updates on mass manufacturing, shipping information, and OS development. As always, thank you all for your continued patience and support - we can not wait for you to receive your Pro1-X’s! Team Fxtec 🙂 So now the suspicion is confirmed that LineageOS (also Ubuntu Touch) isn't ready for the shipping of this batch. Sad, but good they let us change to Android, I've just sent the mail a minute ago! EDIT: And the change has already been confirmed by Fxtec. Edited May 24 by Rob. Looking forward to it!
agent008 232
I've also asked to switch my option to Android in order to avoid further delays. Got confirmation after a few minutes.
toast 56
I decided switching to Android was the best move for me as well. Waiting for confirmation as we speak. My reasoning is "I would much rather have the phone 'now' and switch the software later (I have flashed a few devices before, I mean, should be 100% doable), than waiting an undefined amount of time extra just to get it factory flashed".
matf 322
I assume most people will do the same, those ready to use Ubuntu Touch or LineageOS probably were prepared to flashing themselves at some point anyway. I asked to change too, but made sure they knew I wouldn't keep Android. It probably doesn't make any difference, but just in case, I want F(x)tec to know that offering alternate OSes was and still is greatly appreciated and a selling point for me, despite this temporary choice in favour of Android to get the device earlier. EvilDNA127 22
I just might be getting a little bit excited. As one of the Pro1 customers that still has an outstanding order I'm feeling some anticipation that my email inbox might see a note about shipment sometime soon.
raymo 103
Definitely not for me, as I really hate intrusive google stuffs in stock android the risk of premature death is too great. Edited May 25 by raymo
linparda 12
Anyone know anything about Arrow OS? I have never flashed a phone so this opens up a whole new can of worms for me... Ugh. Edited May 25 by linparda
Noob 146
I'm definitely going to be using LineageOS, but my first thought is that I don't see any benefit to waiting vs requesting Android OS now just to have it on hand sooner (since I'm pretty confortable flashing it myself when the time comes). Though thinking on it a bit more, maybe I'll wait anyway. My Pro1 is doing the job just fine, and if I got it now it'll probably sit idle for a while winding down the warranty. Side note from a couple of updates ago; did anyone else who's replaced their Pro1 screen see the picture of all those black stickers and wish they could get a few spares?

They did. I had anticipated when I sent my Pro1 in last December for repairs (touch didn't work at all even when I replaced the screen) that I would be waiting until manufacture of the Pro1x for spare parts to show up. I just received an email that my repair is done and my Pro1 will be on it's way to me shortly (was done as a warranty repair since I reported the problem 3 weeks before the end of my original 2 year warranty). Quite honestly, great customer service, even with the long (but anticipated) repair time. 👍 Edited May 25 by Hook 3

I wish. I wonder what the black backing stickers do? Are they related to touch detection on the screen? Last year when I replaced my screen for the first time I didn't reuse the old black sticker from the original screen, and it worked fine. No - it is related to the easier replacement if it is necessary. The silver tape is a bit different, it is an additional shielding. 2

Correct? I kept all the pieces that were there, in their original places. Edited May 25 by agent008 spelling error

Basically this one. 1
agent008 232
Perfect, I figured this one would be conductive and left it there. I just didn't remove the black film "backing" from the old screen to put it on the new one.
linparda 12
I just clicked on the Pro 1 buy button on the website which brings you to the Pro1X now - no surprise. But under that it says "Shipping July 2022" - I am really hoping that is for those that didn't pre-order.

There is likely to be quite a backlog before any device ordered today can be delivered, so not unexpected really. But good that it has been updated from the old estimate that was there before. 3

But I am excited to see who gets the first shipping notice as that will be the sign that things are underway.

If the produced layout batches allow it. I have no idea if they can save some shipping or custom handling fees in 'bundling' orders with close by destinations, if so that could potentially affect the order slightly. But this is all guessing as is the time it will take to produce all needed to fulfil pending orders, as we know neither the size of the backlog nor the production rate. 1

And the concept of bundling is one I hadn't thought of. I wonder how many of us are in the US. I suppose all of our questions will be answered shortly if they stick to end of the month shipping.
