  1. I'm with the majority here. Not that hard to adapt to, non-existent with Edge Null on Stock or with a setting on Lineage OS (which I am using). Unlike the majority, I don't like cases and will never have one. 😉
  2. When I said "my answer to this question..." I was addressing the OP. You didn't ask a question. Lol.
  3. I wouldn't say bad coding. They just don't plan for a low frequency use case when it would require little effort on their part because Android does the heavy lifting and does it quite well. Luckily, split screen handles the few stubborn apps I use-- and mostly the ones that won't do landscape are not very keyboard intensive (weather, bank) so it's actually fine to just flip a moment and do them. My answer to this question would be to simply ask how much you like Blackberrys. I had several, all work issued, and I hated them. I find portrait keyboards cramped and impossible to type on,
  4. While still not preaching, I wanted to come back after a week of using this setup and give a follow up. I mean, it sounded great, but it's possible that when the rubber met the road that it would turn out to be a clumsy way to do things. It has worked out even better than I imagined. The functional dividing line between the two devices is crystal clear. The phone (the Moto G8 Power) is always in my pocket although in fact I rarely pull it out except in the car, It is in my pocket so I won't walk out to the car without it. The Pro1 is always with me in the house and that is the device I
  5. I'll assume by September, you mean September 2020? This is a user to user forum, so unfortunately there are no answers here, only guesses,. The bad news is that they haven't yet managed to fulfill all the "pre-orders". They said something about another batch going out in early September, but we haven't had that confirmed, nor do we know how large a batch. The good news is, if they do succeed in fulfilling all the pre-orders, there probably isn't a huge number of new orders yet, so it really could be sooner rather than later. You'll really have to ask at info@fxtec.com and se
  6. @EskeRahn or @Erik *might* be able to do it, but I'm not sure.
  7. This is what I have done to solve a couple of key problems I was wrestling with. Verizon connectivity (both Stock and Lineage) and problems with Android Auto (Lineage). Also, the fact that I want to keep Lineage and not return to stock. This is not a solution for everyone. Some may even say it isn't a solution at all. However, it has made me very happy! I first should provide some context for why I have done what I have done and why it works for me. I retired at the end of 2019 and then Covid hit. I am older and thus remain very cautious, even with the world trying to open up. I st
  8. Please don't mistake me for someone who knows what he's talking about, but I would try flashing the original factory image from October 2019. First, I think it is the only complete ROM. You can then take all the updates. I think it is worth a try. Make sure you once again wipe userdata as the flashall included does not do that and will reboot you without giving you a chance to do it.
  9. There was a significant shipment in Nov/Dec 2019-- that's when I received mine (shipped in Nov, turned back by US Customs, reshipped from Hong Kong and received about Dec 10th). There were quite a few people who received devices then, as I recall, though I have no documentation and am too lazy to pore over the threads. 😉
  10. Sideloaded (as I always do) the 07 SEP update. Went very smoothly. Don't think there is anything new except the 05 SEP security patch from Google. However, no hiccups.
  11. No. You could have a second line, but I assume that requires a separate number. Also, do you have your Verizon sim working in your Pro 1? If so, lucky you and it may break. I had it working for three months, but it finally wouldn't let me do SMS and I got an AT&T Pay as you go SIM. You might take a look at this thread:
  12. Pay-as-you-go, which I have always done (never had a contract) in the US is now a reasonable option finally well supported by even the big telecoms. The downside of the wide support for it is that it is harder to find plans that allow you anymore to just pay money and take as long as you want for what you paid for. Most require a monthly reup, although you can let the account go dormant and revive it when you need it-- you will just lose any rollover the account might have. Investigate the smaller companies (called MNVOs)m such as Ting and many others, as they will offer the best prices. H
  13. By the way, I believe the relevant date for warranty is when it was shipped, not when it was ordered.
  14. You can download a flashable Magisk from here: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/ You flash it as in step 3 of @tdm's list above. Then you just download the Magisk Manager as I recall. Been a while since I used this as I switched to addonsu, but I'll probably have to go back to Magisk I think with LOS 17.
  15. Yes, thanks. That is what I do exactly. 🙂 (I do the same procedure with my Samsung TAB S with Lineage.)
  16. Ditto here. I only sideload and I always reflash MindTheGapps even though it is said you don't need too (also reflash addonsu). I've never noticed any lost settings... then again, I don't use many Gapps (Maps and Contacts are about it).

    Setup without Google

Wait! What? I'm supposed to drive more carefully if I'm an old fart... 😏
  18. I've never ever had to format an SD card (Windows, Android/Lineage. Linux), even when passing the card between platforms. This includes the Pro1. I just insert the card and away I go. I'm not a technical person, but have just assumed they come ready for FAT32, but I don't really know. This is just my experience.

    Setup without Google

F(x) Tec advertises alternate OSes as a feature of buying the Pro 1, as well as promoting them on their twitter feed, so you can be sure it doesn't void warranty. They also provide the means to restore stock (it restores an older version, but then you take the updates): I've done the restore to stock a couple of times, so I know it works although I am now on Lineage.

    Spare Parts

Nothing yet about spare parts from F(x) Tec. My guess is they can't get into the spare parts biz until they catch up on orders and have stock on hand. You can certainly try asking them, because anyone here is just guessing. Nice that you escaped your potential disaster with minimum consequences. 🙂
  21. Exactly this just happened to me. I'm so grateful a search for "battery drain" pulled up this post. I'm not very technical and probably would hav never discovered Android Auto was the culprit. But I was losing 10% an hour or greater and my phone was heating up. I was frankly getting ready to do a factory reset because I couldn't stop it and couldn't figure it out. But the search turned up this post and I tried it. Uninstalled Android Auto and the drain stopped. Reinstalled, and all was still good. When I reinstalled, I also discovered Google Maps was crashing, so reinstalled that, but
  22. For future reference, a reboot to recovery is on the advanced menu in the Lineage Recovery itself. Glad it all worked out. 🙂
