Estimated software and hardware support time
Doktor Oswaldo replied to ValdikSS's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
It does sound like that. This would be wonderful news indeed. @Waxberry can you confirm this? Where can I order spare Batteries? This makes spending 650 bucks on a phone much much easier. To know you can still use it a full day 2 years after. -
Interesting. I do not have this reaction. Mostly because the headphones are usually cramped under the phone in the box. I do not need an extra to feel value, but when an extra is needed I would prefer a good case (where a few dollars more could make a HUGE difference) or an sd card.

I actually would prefer the phone without headphones, sure good in-ears would be "dope" (as the young people seem to say =). But good in-ears are pricey. So the included headphones will most likely wander directly to its siblings in my drawer.

Have fun everybody and don't forget to share your experience ;-)

Estimated software and hardware support time
Doktor Oswaldo replied to ValdikSS's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
Don't get me wrong. That is not what I think will happen. I am just saying there are ways without official support. Which is worth considering. As always an official Statement in this question will never be "Preoders are far to low, we can't give you any support at all", the statement will always be "We plan to deliver all patches for at least X years and planing on continue delivering security patches afterwards. At this point we will have newer Hardware ready for you". And I believe them. They hope to do so, and may even already know that they can. I think they are as passionate about -
Estimated software and hardware support time

I think at this point this information is useless. We have to be realistic here. If the phone is a financial disaster, support will vanish really fast. Spare parts will not be as bad, since they seem to use a lot of standard-parts. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be easy to dis-/assemble it (would have been great if they used the shiftphone approach). On the software-side things could end really fast. But the open bootloader will enable us to use an OS that gets updated. -
I am fortunately not a person which needs bling in a phone. So my current phone was approx, 180 euros. And I am a tech-enthusiast (IT professional). But in the end I only watch Netflix on my phone and do typing, so not much power needed. I have no idea why people are spending a grand on a phone to write whatsapp's. It is beyond my imagination. I mean I am a geek, 6 grands on a pinball machine? sure, 2 on a PC? sure, but what Use-Case makes an Iphone worth a grand? For me there is none. My point is: For my standards 650 is too expensive as well. Not too expensive for that phone, just too ex

POLL: What keyboard layout do you want?
Doktor Oswaldo replied to MortisAngelus's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
Really good point. The shift of the keys may be really good, but makes it hard to change the used layout. But I suppose it is only a Problem if you want to go to a non shifted layout. If you have the US-Keyboard and switch to the German one, the German one will be shifted to (because the sent keycodes are shifted). -
Fingerprint sensor & gestures
Doktor Oswaldo replied to jjarmasz's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
Looks like there is no space for your thumb if you hold it in portrait with your right hand. Could be solved because it is a little wider than most phones. How is it? -
Fingerprint sensor & gestures
Doktor Oswaldo replied to jjarmasz's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
Is it a dedicated fingerprint reader? Not combined with the power/lock button? Then not enrol the pinky is a solution. But I know it as a combined button. -
Will there be Widevine DRM L1 support? It is a must for me and many others and does not cost anything. It seems that the certification is not yet there (https://www.fxtec.com/forums/topic/april-update-more-consistent-interaction-from-dev-team/page/2/#post-15139).

Definitely agree for myself. But to sell the phone it has to be a little shiny. So I guess the spacing on the launcher will increase, or hopefully be customizable. -
Fingerprint sensor & gestures

It must sit a little low, so you won't press it while gripping. -

I am only guessing, but one reason may be what apps they are allowed to preinstall. For the reviews and the masses it is important to have a software installed which works. I could imagine that they can't just preinstall an app from the store. But in the podcast they said, that the google mail apps works well in landscape, so I don't get the case of the mail app either. -

This has nothing to do with the phone itself, it is a browser feature, but navigation with the keyboard can be way superior. As a heavy vim user I use the keyboard for almost all navigation: gt -> next tab, gT -> previous tab, t -> newtab, o -> new address in the same tab. j -> scroll one line down, J -> Scroll a page down... and some dozen keybindings more for the rest. This will be possible on the phone since the add-on (tridactyl) is compatible to the mobile Firefox Browser. But my point is: Only because you are used to the mouse as navigation device, it does not me -

What do you guys think? Overall it makes a solid impression on me. The feel of the keyboard seems to be really good, at least we got told so. Negative Points for me are: - A little bit slow in the change between portrait and landscape view (minor issue, may will be optimized software-wise). - Camera seems to stand out a little bit (see picture). - The back cover seems to save every fingerprint forever, it is already pretty greasy in the video (second image). But this could be a pure studio-lightning problem. - I wasn't able to get a usable picture, but there seems to be a little goug -

Sorry nothing at all against your poll. I am indeed glad you made it. I am just saying, that the 13 votes could be the same very eager person. But at least you can see why they confirmed a German layout. -
POLL: What keyboard layout do you want?
Doktor Oswaldo replied to MortisAngelus's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
To be comparable you should sum up US and US international. But the Poll is pretty useless at the moment anyway. Only 34 votes so only 13 people voted for the German Layout. That is not enough to measure a trend. -

Agreed, I just tried to show the motivation of the post. I would leave ~ where it belongs to (on the + key accessible with Alt Gr) and while preferring a third character set on the keys (not only for german layouts) I would also prefer to have the key at the right place without a print.

You are right, the US-International allows to type in other languages too. There are two approaches: 1. Dead key: In my opinion this is horrible, it means that some keys like " are waiting for another key. So "a gives you an ä and 'A an Á and so on. To type a normal " you have to press it twice. This approach actively hurts normal US Users. 2. Alt Gr: This is what we are talking about. Characters of other languages are well hide behind the Alt Gr key (Alt Gr+q = ä, Alt Gr+Q = Ä ...). This is faster and does not obstruct US-Users other than it would need an additional colour and a third set -
Th The tilde ~ is normally on Alt-Gr + + I think the suggested layout tries to eliminate the need to print a third character on the key.
