How to type Unicode characters on QWERTY keyboard?
Doktor Oswaldo replied to lcsaszar's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
I mostly agree with you, just some minor points: 1. The layout you use in Poland is probably what is called the US-International layout (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AltGr_key#US-International). 2. This is only useful on a smartphone if the phone is on a table or the keys are sticky (sticky means the key stays pressed until another key has ben pressed, so pressing altGr and releasing it and then press another button would have the same result as pressing altGr and the key together). But this has to be done, using the android style "hold the key" is bad on a touchscreen, but having to swi -
How to type Unicode characters on QWERTY keyboard?
Doktor Oswaldo replied to lcsaszar's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
I am saying the same for nearly half a year here in the forum. But this layout should be available on most OS. It is a pity that there is no international print though. This is only true if the key is not sticky. The N900 had accents behind a sticky key and it was working fantastic. Sticky modifiers are a must on a hwkb-phone for me! -
Absolutely, the ranting here is because they did NOT fix the moderation issue AND introduced design issues. The design issues alone would be no thing at all. But it should not be misunderstood. While this is a bit of a pity and some of us had to do a short rant, it is no big deal. I have still faith in the phone (I have to, already paid ...).

F(x)tec Customer Service Responses are Timely and Excellent
Doktor Oswaldo replied to sequestris's topic in Support
Said that before somewhere. I have the exact same experience. As long as I had support questions, answer was fast and clear. No marketing BS. But before I joined the forum I've written them questions about the phone. No response there. This is absolutely okay (A friendly default mail would be nice though). Just pointing this out, because this could be a reason for no/late response. Once the questions differ from the default support stuff, it may need to be handled from a person with more important tasks! -
It is still a limited time period. But most of the time the moderation takes longer than that time period. If you are lucky and eske instantly allows your comment, you actually can correct the embarrassing spelling errors. But your edit has to be moderated again. Yeah sure, but it is a place to put some of the frustration. We are waiting for months for a new forum but what we get is new design. As you said that is alright as long as the phone is becoming good. But it is not the best move for a company with the slogan "function is key" to update the look of the whole site (which has no

If you use Firefox you could use that one: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/styl-us/. I think it also exists for chrome based browsers. Then you could write custom css for the site. I did not a lot needed, other font and a dam background so it has some contrast.

Thoughts On Buying More Than One
Doktor Oswaldo replied to Hook's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
What a lot of us are talking is pre-ordering a second one not buying it. Since the preorder stays valid and can be used for every coming layout, some people want to keep the preorder price for future phones. So we just preorder and never pay unless the wished layout comes out. It is a strange system but since it only helps us, there is no reason to complain. -
If at least design was key. But the forum seems to got completely forgotten in the css change. I first thought there is css missing because everything is way to light and was way better than before. But what bothers me is that there are multiple text overflows or missing paddings. Here an example: [attachment file=forum_css.png] I added a dotted line around the white container so it is easier to see. The gray text is half in the div half out. Subscribe has no padding at all to the right.

Sequence of order processing + issues with orders
Doktor Oswaldo replied to Doktor Oswaldo's topic in Support
Exactly! I mean it is great news that they are using a big support network and we can send it in easily, I was worried this isn't the case with a small company like that. But I am even more worried, that I have to buy a slab again, if fxtec doesn't survive (I hope it does). Given us access to the parts means we can hold the phone alive like many people still do with the n900. -
Apps that works great with a real keyboard and in landscape
Doktor Oswaldo replied to EskeRahn's topic in General Discussion
Yes it does. It has to because it changes a lot. But it is on github https://github.com/tridactyl/tridactyl and does nothing evil with the permissions. Just a quick tutorial for you: t to open a new tab. f to highlight links (and follow), gi go to first input (so a typical flow is tgoogle.com<CR>gu<searchterm>f). But anyway thank you very much for testing! -
Chen posted a statement to the price increase on the mameo forum: http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1559275&postcount=1941 Thanks for all the support, criticise and help on clarification. Much appreciate the support from the community, it's the power for me to keep things moving. We are undergoing for the first batch of production which will be finished shortly, but it's very limited in quantity. (I am sorry again to some people that we are not a massive entity that can afford a huge amount of first shipment) And meanwhile we are working on our second batch, which has also

Sequence of order processing + issues with orders
Doktor Oswaldo replied to Doktor Oswaldo's topic in Support
That is not what I fear of, I am sure it will have high standards. My problem is, where are these repair guys? Will there be a repair location in Switzerland? Probably not. So what does it mean to me, do I need to send that stuff back over the border? What about taxes and postal prices? Are you gonna handle that? -
Sequence of order processing + issues with orders

This means, I should preoder now in the hope my layout will come? Won't this lead to a lot unpaid preorders? I am in no position to demanding everything, but I would suggest cancelling all the preorders once the device is officially released. Then if you want to give people waiting for scandi a change to get that price do a sale on the new layout for a short time. But now it seems to be unclear: 1. Is the scandi layout coming? 2. what will the phone cost in regular sales? 3. Are preorders valid for ever and every layout? Then I am gonna place a preoder in hope for a non shifted us lay -

A small note to Firefox. It seems to be possible to install tridactyl on a mobile firefox. Tridactyl is a vim controll plugin for firefox. Which allows a *complete* control of the browser from the keyboard. I hope this will work on the pro1. -

I see no problem in that, but sending mails to people with an open preoder may lead to misunderstandings. -

To clarify this, since it has a lot of discussions. People which have preordered but not paid because they are waiting on the scandi layout (just an example) will pay which price? How long is the preorder valid without paying? -
Please do not forget, that all 3 of the fxtec "directors" are probably using a lot of personal savings on this project. It is a big risk they are willing to take to bring the keyboard slider back (Even if it isn't their money, failing would at least mean have a failed company in your CW). I for my part are thankful that somebody is willing to take that risk. Yes the price is high, but as a lot others have pointed out it is hard to compare to other phones. But remember the money will not go to a multimillion dollar company, it will go to a start up. If you still think that should be

This is not exactly unfair. It could be that the scandi layout is more expensive because the volume is less. But a clear statement would be a great help.

Mail sent to too many, do not panic if you already paid.
Doktor Oswaldo replied to EskeRahn's topic in Support
Sorry Eske, you close the thread always to fast. I had already written a mail back then, before you posted the thread and got official answer: the message was sent to all orders different to the status of "paid". In my case it was even a "cancelled" order. You may want to post the official statement and delete this thread. -

I have to opposite experience. Support mails regarding ordering are always answered fast. Have you tried using the support button, so you can rule out a problem with mailing? -
Alternative OS availability, common entry

Maemo is my favourite phone OS of all time. But I think it only works that great with a stylus. -
How did the pre-launch perform, F(x)tec?
Doktor Oswaldo replied to Sidekick2009's topic in General Discussion
I don't thinkt they will communicate anything until it is sure. I think it is too early to say anyway. We can do some estimations. There are around 24000 preorders. Lets assume 70% of these preorders are paid (would estimate lower, but since this product is niche, people who are here seem to be in it. But insert your own number if you like) -> 16'800 phones. Everybody paid arround 670$ (exact numbers are not that important). Gives us arround 11'424'000. If we take the numbers of shiftphones.com (they communicate them) arround 25% of that go to fxtec -> 2'856'000. This sounds lik -
Yes I do not think either, that it will be easy to switch the keyboard. I can live with the shifted qwerty keyboard. But I am lucky that I use the US-International layout anyway. For people using a regional keyboard layout it is a downer. I am pretty sure a lot of people are waiting for their layout before ordering. But I think if you want keyboard phones to come back, you have to take some minor hits. I dislike the curved screen and the shifted layout (and the size is not perfect). But compared to anything else it is so much better. But sure it is a lot to ask people spending so much m

Do not forget the logistic costs. Sure the hardware itself has the same price no matter what price. But everything else can be expensive. You must organise different stickers, different boxes you must store this things somewhere and have controlls to ensure the right box is used for the right keyboard. The right box has to be delivered to the right place and so on... Sure this is nothing special and not that hard. It is also not that expensive if you have a high count of these numbers. BUt on low production numbers these things can cost a lot of money and time. On top of that, they most lik

The modularity is a nice dream. But the reality is, that it is huge we can change the battery on the pro1 without using a hot air gun. Releasing a modular phone would mean going in the exact opposite direction than the market is going. Sure the pro1 does the same, but the keyboard offers an instant benefit. The modular phone has just disadvantages in the beginning (design, thickness etc..). If a small startup would do this, I would never buy it, because I doubt that there will be any modules at all. Sure google could do that, just to disrupt the market. I think it would be better to fo
