This is not exactly unfair. It could be that the scandi layout is more expensive because the volume is less. But a clear statement would be a great help.

Mail sent to too many, do not panic if you already paid.
Doktor Oswaldo replied to EskeRahn's topic in Support
Sorry Eske, you close the thread always to fast. I had already written a mail back then, before you posted the thread and got official answer: the message was sent to all orders different to the status of "paid". In my case it was even a "cancelled" order. You may want to post the official statement and delete this thread. -

I have to opposite experience. Support mails regarding ordering are always answered fast. Have you tried using the support button, so you can rule out a problem with mailing? -
Alternative OS availability, common entry

Maemo is my favourite phone OS of all time. But I think it only works that great with a stylus. -
How did the pre-launch perform, F(x)tec?
Doktor Oswaldo replied to Sidekick2009's topic in General Discussion
I don't thinkt they will communicate anything until it is sure. I think it is too early to say anyway. We can do some estimations. There are around 24000 preorders. Lets assume 70% of these preorders are paid (would estimate lower, but since this product is niche, people who are here seem to be in it. But insert your own number if you like) -> 16'800 phones. Everybody paid arround 670$ (exact numbers are not that important). Gives us arround 11'424'000. If we take the numbers of shiftphones.com (they communicate them) arround 25% of that go to fxtec -> 2'856'000. This sounds lik -
Yes I do not think either, that it will be easy to switch the keyboard. I can live with the shifted qwerty keyboard. But I am lucky that I use the US-International layout anyway. For people using a regional keyboard layout it is a downer. I am pretty sure a lot of people are waiting for their layout before ordering. But I think if you want keyboard phones to come back, you have to take some minor hits. I dislike the curved screen and the shifted layout (and the size is not perfect). But compared to anything else it is so much better. But sure it is a lot to ask people spending so much m

Do not forget the logistic costs. Sure the hardware itself has the same price no matter what price. But everything else can be expensive. You must organise different stickers, different boxes you must store this things somewhere and have controlls to ensure the right box is used for the right keyboard. The right box has to be delivered to the right place and so on... Sure this is nothing special and not that hard. It is also not that expensive if you have a high count of these numbers. BUt on low production numbers these things can cost a lot of money and time. On top of that, they most lik

The modularity is a nice dream. But the reality is, that it is huge we can change the battery on the pro1 without using a hot air gun. Releasing a modular phone would mean going in the exact opposite direction than the market is going. Sure the pro1 does the same, but the keyboard offers an instant benefit. The modular phone has just disadvantages in the beginning (design, thickness etc..). If a small startup would do this, I would never buy it, because I doubt that there will be any modules at all. Sure google could do that, just to disrupt the market. I think it would be better to fo

They did some testing and came up with the idea, that this is easier for typing (centered). I for myself will go ahead and try it. Will have to rebuild muscle memory for thumb-keyboards anyway. Sure I would have bought a non shifted qwerty if available, but can't say that I am that sure it would be better without trying it. That would be a great plus!

Password Keeper or Locker for Pro1?
Doktor Oswaldo replied to rejujacob's topic in General Discussion
I would somehow like the see some resources in the keyboard-control area. omnisearch-launcher etc (there are enough other threads). Sure a third party app would be great, but I don't see that happen out of obvious reasons. -

The point I forgot to add: Your passwordmanager is not the primary attack vector here. They will force backdoors into the services directly anyway. -
Password Keeper or Locker for Pro1?
Doktor Oswaldo replied to rejujacob's topic in General Discussion
This is definitely an over kill. While I understand the doubt in commercial product most of them have a great track record. And they would instantly be dead if they fuck up, because it is there core business (that is the difference to other companies). A lot of them are just so convenient that it is hard to think of anything else once you start using them. I use lastpass f.e. But if you don't like the cloud storage, you could use 1Password and sync your vault over Dropbox, iCloud or your own wifi. Keepass would be the opensource alternative, but it has some attack vectors. If that is not -

You probably should write them an email with the name of the bank in it. Are you form the US/Canada? Seems to work fine for European customers. I ask because the US has often some strange standards regarding cards. Most of the time the rules are less strict there tough. *My experience with card payment systems is very restricted. -

If it is in order of preordering it is fair yes. But I never heard of that, would suggest the system I suggested is used in some form. But I cancelled my first preorder to place a second on my company address which lost me some places, because I was unable to change the address on a existing preorder... But anyway my new preorder is at ~16k. Since they have at least ~23k tonight seems to be to early to cut. But during the weekend could be possible. -

Had no problem paying, but recieved my mail 30 minutes ago. It seems like you were waaay ahead of me. To be honest this pisses my off a little bit. When the criteria is speed of paying, everybody should get their mails at least at the same day. This is no problem at all, when I am still in the first batch, but who knows... -
Sequence of order processing + issues with orders
Doktor Oswaldo replied to Doktor Oswaldo's topic in Support
My idea only leads to a delay in sending the phone, not in receiving payments and so also not in production. I can not think of a db structure where this select should trigger any problems. In the worst case you need two distinct queries which are used depending on servertime (This is only may daily buisness, so my experience says me I am most likely wrong ;-) ). That was what I suggested. I think this would only be fair. -
There is an official statement that deliveries will start in September. I see no reason to believe that it will get to november. The production of the phone is most likely quite fast. So chances are good, that we all receive our handsets until Oktorber. As long as we do not hear anything else from fxtec there is no reason to believe otherwise.

Sequence of order processing + issues with orders
Doktor Oswaldo replied to Doktor Oswaldo's topic in Support
If they have problems processing the shipment, then it is a valid point. I do believe our funds are too late for the the first batch of production anyway. I do not believe that payment will be delayed. Since the date of paying will be relevant after that week, I will pay as fast as possible anyway. Of course it makes sense to keep the production busy. But If they have not sold enough to produce 1 week prior they have a lot of other problems. I strongly believe, that the first batch size is already fixed and will be sold anyway. In the time this batch is produced other people will be p -
The newest newsletter suggests, that the orders are processed in the order of payment. This is actually good news for me, I will be fast and I need a new phone as soon as possible. But I do not think it is a wise move for the company. (Why am I doing this, I gonna regret this soooo much if they are listening) I suggest give people a fixed time, like a week to pay and then process the orders like that: 1. People with Indiegogo coupons, they are waiting for years (<- not me :( ) 2. All order orders sorted by order date. 3. All payments after the week or so, sorted by date of payin

Video from the Düsseldorf hands-on/preview event
Doktor Oswaldo replied to scy's topic in General Discussion
Danke schön, informatives Video. I love the fact, that they put so much work into something like the battery-replacement, without making a trouble about it. It seems that while their communication often lacks, they really read and understand what is posted in the forum. It makes spending 650+ on a Smartphone so much easier, knowing you can replace the Battery. -
Additional Platform for Brainstorming and Conversation
Doktor Oswaldo replied to Noir's topic in General Discussion
I disagree to some point. This would be a great thing, and I voted on it, but not is the wrong moment in my opinion. They likely have sleepless nights to finish the device as soon as possible. Every additional channel is doomed to split the feedback from the team over even more platforms. Every feedback we give them is useless at the moment, since there is no time for changes anymore. But once the device has released, this may be a great idea. -

The problem seems to be that it is indeed manual spam and not a robot. But your suggestion would help anyway, since it would limit the mass of spam to a not so intrusive amount. -
Since the beta tester will probably have to sign an nda, I highly doubt that the testers will be allowed to post about bugs anywhere public.

What's your favourite HW keyboard phone?
Doktor Oswaldo replied to readyfx's topic in General Discussion
Another efficient Input the big I took from us. It is a shame that people were not enough tech savy back than. Mass appeal was everything, because most people did not understand that a smartphone will be a device to do everything soon.
