Questions about hotspot, camera and hdmi
netman replied to kashif's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
Definitely, this is a standard Android feature and will work on the Pro1 just as it works on any other modern smartphone. The second page of the post anonim001 mentioned shows how close it can focus: https://www.fxtec.com/forums/topic/fxtec-pro1-sample-shots-compare-with-hmd-nokia-8-1/page/2/ For documents this should be more than adequate, the camera sensor is the same one as Pixel 3 phone and should definitely take great photos. Someone in the unofficial Discord chatroom who is going to the fxtec event in NYC may be able to bring a small monitor and try the HDMI+charging with an -
Well try doing that for an unreleased Shamesung/LG/whatever phone xD. I think they're doing aight.

I use mixed pecking and swiping techniques and other than ' " _ and other non-letter symbols they all kinda work equally well for me, rather some words I often think I could use swipe because it's common and then it gets it all wrong and has no good suggestions so i have to backspace it away and waste time. Also, what is your type racer score with real keyboard and proper touchtyping? I average around 80-83 wpm, and can hit up to 90 wpm. I average around 75wpm, but if the stars align (typing the same easy text a few times or something that just types nicely somehow) I can get up to 95-100w

On my slab phone (Doogee S60) I get quite some variation between the handful of races I did, between 18 and 24wpm. It's frustrating to play with touchscreen, but now I have a point of comparison when the pro1 comes :). No doubt I'll be faster on physical keys after a bit of getting used to.

Sequence of order processing + issues with orders
netman replied to Doktor Oswaldo's topic in Support
What about out-of-warranty repairs for those who incist on doing stuff themselves or simply have no more warranty? It'd be sad if we could not buy parts separately and have to scavenge them from donor phones as with Apple. In either case tutoring is not a responsibility F(x)tec has, if we attempt repairing it ourselves the responsibility is fully on us, this is how it is for all other brands. And if it's popular enough the parts will end up on Aliexpress somehow either way, probably more profit for F(x)tec if they are providing. -
For what I understand from what the birds say, that little nipple on the keyboard mat (at the closest to the user side) in the older prototypes is above a screw and it was necessary to take off the keyboard mat to get to that screw whereas on the newer ones that screw is not a thing somehow (can only guess at how the final version is implemented). It does look like it would be possible to make the keyboard fairly easily replaceable if one could source the whole part of the phone where the keyboard is glued to, which holds not too many other things by the looks. Similar of how I've experienc

A juicy picture was tweeted: I mirrored the picture: here http://www.matland.be/pro1shots/pro1exploded.jpg From the shape of the keyboard mat we can tell it's an earlier prototype (credit to Noir for pointing this out). Looking beautiful I do think!

Absolutely yes, and I am probably paying a chunk of that to get it fast also (as opposed to waiting for a used one or prices to drop). I would also not be buying it otherwise, I am just fine with a 200eur phone if comparing non-keyboard phones. And if it was over 1000eur I might not buy it either, yet I wouldn't truely be offended.

For the screen brightness? I have never observed AMOLED doing PWM, at least not on a frequency that is visible by the waving yer hand trick or bothering cameras, but I wouldn't know how do they work. Interesting question.

And 3 year old phone has no keypad except meh bb priv, in this regard Pro1 has no competition... Unihertz Titan and BB Key2 exist but jeez, those you could actually complain about the specs with. And that only even helps if you live in a place which has the infrastructure, which are not most places as far as I know. I think SD835 is an excellent choice, more than fast enough and it is cheaper than the newest not-noticably-faster chips. One CAN compare a Toyota car to Bentley... And similarly Pro1 won't be for everyone and neither are Xiaomi phones, we all can take our choice.

For me it says "completed" on the pre-orders page and "processing" on the orders page, where did you look? -
+1 It'd be very nice if we had the forum functional, whether it is this one or a new one...

Fxtec Pro1 Sample Shots (Compare with HMD Nokia 8.1)

It works the same here. However if I am not wrong China does not really do anything against wrongly filling the forms also, yet if someone (fxtec in this case) do this when sending from UK/USA/EU there is a real possibility of them getting in serious trouble for this in the case customs on the receiving end would tell what they find. As a company they won't want to depend on someone telling that someone else will turn a blind eye because they normally do so.

and some discussion on maemo forum http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=100554&page=181 and unrelated to FrOSCon (i think) https://together.jolla.com/question/208399/official-fxtec-pro1-sailfish-support/

That would definitely catch my eye and be a good selling point :). I tend to void warranties as soon as i verified something works as expected, by checking what is inside and/or customizing it to my liking. It definitely is the most I've spent on a phone before and I've never even been so impatient and adventurous to pre-order something, but considering the specs of the phone and how well it all looks to be implemented I'd say the price is good. I even manage to stretch the lifetime of budget phones to over 5 years so it'll be good, and the keyboard means it is also much more useful than

100k cycles is pretty good I guess, I really doubt i would open the phone 48 times a day, I think I unlock my normal slab like 4-5 times a day, although the keyboard would make me use it a bit more than a slab phone and it looks pretty addictive to open/close on videos. And I've not encountered much problems with sliders and fliphones before, even ones with cheap plasticky mechanisms. I hope they make parts available directly from china or from within europe also, as ordering from ifixit means things pass by customs adding administration costs along with the duties and taxes if over 22eur (

POLL: What keyboard layout do you want?
netman replied to MortisAngelus's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
After they mentioned what merchant service they used (stripe) i did notice it has options for sofort banking and some other services like that, I sent them a message on the book of faces suggesting if it isn't too hard it may help many to pay if enabled (it's a german payment service thing but it supports many european banks, i can use it also from belgium for example). Do not know what is involved in enabling it, what the terms are etc though, there may be good reason it is not enabled. -
Removing the screws possibly voids the warranty though, so I am not sure they are free to advertise that as a selling point. Also they might not be wanting to make official statements until the device is released... Those are just guesses though.
-
And not in the least they risk ending up with inventory which they don't know if they can sell or afford to stock. And for things like injection molding plastic and pad printing etc, the economy of scale is not to be underestimated so making a small enough quantity may simply not be economically viable.

I get that, but I think it's an incredibly difficult challenge to do properly both mechanically (modules doubtfully could all be the same size so you'd need a tiny backplane that is still strong) and electronically (you'd have to route either all interfaces all over the place, or conceive a multipurpose high speed bus and the hardware+software to back it), and drivers would be a major challenge too if more than one manufacturer became involved as OS updates would mean new kernel modules are to be built every time. That said.. I think the way to such a thing is probably trough stepping stone
-
I've always though project ara is kinda doomed because of two reasons: - Almost any manufacturer capable of doing this is likely to just release an incompatible next version a few years later, and I can't really conveive of very useful modules they could add (other than a keyboard, camera button etc, and pro1 is a much better idea in that way just adding everything you'd want off the bat as an integrated solution). - Technically it's quite challenging because of software, cost and the way hardware is integrated with phones being mostly centered around a SoC, adding a display, storage, ca

which ssh terminal client suits the Fxtec Pro-1 ?
netman replied to pistikem's topic in Pro1 - Thoughts & questions
This is default behaviour in android (you can tell by trying on a bluetooth keyboard). -
Unless they added an external DAC which isn't really a common practice as far as i know, the DAC is part of the SD835 SoC and some more information can be found here: https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon-835-mobile-platform

It may help to tell what country you are in, for EU and USA it has already been told by fxtec that they will ship from a local warehouse and they will simply not pass customs on the way. Misreporting the price to customs is a crime though, so I doubt they would do that since they operate from the UK where these things can actually get you in trouble. Generally it is not told, just done :D.
