I've tried quite a few different launchers now and I've only found one so far that handles landscape mode well. (TL;DR, it's Total Launcher). The Pro1 default Quickstep supports landscape mode but only using a "two halves" approach that screws up widget placement (my old 1x1 and 2x1 widgets all get stretched to 2 rows, and can't be positioned across the center line of the screen), and it also lacks a lot of other pretty basic customization options. Some launchers don't support landscape mode at all, they're just in portrait mode all the time. These include: Evie and Smart Launcher (n4 points

Did you tap the charging notification to get the other choices for USB connections? Charge is default3 points

You got yours in 6 months! Holy cow, that was fast. So, now, you'll just be in the same boat a lot of others were in. And one more thing... it's just a phone. Some perspective here. Life does and *should* go on.3 points

Ha, thanks a lot! Both worked. I tried top before - but didn't see anything special. But checking the log for crashes I could see that Android Auto was constantly crashing... removing and reinstalling it stopped the battery drain and made it work again. Totally forgot about that as I didn't use my car since then 🙂 So yeah, it seems the update made all Google Apps crash. Is there a reason to prevent that? Reinstalling the Google Apps each time wouldn't be an issue - but I need to redo the configurations each time as well, which is a bit annoying :)3 points

What kind of USB ports does your Win 10 machine have. I have never had a problem with my old Desktop with USB 2 ports and an old USB cable from my Nexus 6p, either with stock or Lineage. No drivers needed to be installed.2 points
-
I had the same issue on Windows 10 2004 or whatever the latest build is. Only after going through all the LOS steps did it show up on my computer. This happened for no apparent reason after I flashed LOS. Can't exactly pinpoint when it happened because I was to busy configuring my phone. Just that it all of the sudden appeared under File Explorer. By the way, Windows 10 nowadays can take up to a couple of minutes before it searches for the correct drivers. So when you cycle through the connection options, be sure to force a manual search for devices and updates.2 points

If you install via sideload, always remember to "reboot recovery" then flash gapps. Then it should be fine. If you try to boot without flashing gapps, then later flash it, all of the Google apps will crash and require re-install. If you install via OTA, this should all Just Work.2 points
-
Yeah, I found this out on the last nightly where I accidentlly triggered a reboot after only sideloading the update. Same thing as ED... apps or Google services crashing, had to go back and re-sideload MindThe Gapps and reinstall a couple of apps.2 points
-
This happened to me once on stock. Reboot did the trick. I'm not sure about the other two, but definitely DEL + ENTER. Not that it's of any help since I cannot believe you havn't tried a reboot yet.2 points

Sounds like a hardware issue...😥 ADD: The below is for stock Android not e.g. LineageOS First go to Settings►System, Languages►Physical keyboard►Physical keyboard►Set up keyboard layouts, and de-select ANY selected. OR if you are using FinQWERTY you could also just select "FinQWERTY None (stock)" If QWERTZ ignore that the print is now wrong, we want to test hardware keys(!) Then try the factory test described here it is number seven on the list. Please note that the Esc-key has changed in later OTAs compared to this test , so not lighting up does not mean it is broke2 points

It fills my heart with joy to see so many deliveries. The #clackening is finally happening! @Erik: now that more and more people are getting their much awaited phone, is it already time to cautiously be thinking about a Pro2?2 points

The first utility apps I install on any Android device I own are FX and Termux. Together they turn a smartphone or tablet into a full-featured pocket computer. The former is in my opinion the best file manager Android has, while the latter gives me a fully-featured Linux terminal complete with the apt package manager. From there I can install ssh and I've got a connection to my desktop PC from anywhere with an internet connection for file transfer and media streaming.2 points

For me real problem. Got my phone last week and the ENTER does nothing! No apps work with the physical ENTER key. Please help...1 point

What driver has Windows chosen - that might be the culprit.1 point

Tanks for your analyse, and I agree to a large extent. Though I do find the build in quickstep solution of two blocks of equal side next to each other or on top of each other quite ingenious for a simple launcher, and thus simple to use for anyone, the only drawback is that a widget must stay within one of these blocks. And that is not a bad price for most. But obviously independent layouts are more flexible (including allowing for larger widgets) - at the price of more complex setup. Unfortunately the Total Launcher's auto-rotate is not really working - though it can do both orientations1 point

Interesting tip from EskeRahn. I wish I had read it earlier. I think it belongs to this wiki. I quote: "I strongly suggest to change the Android setting under Settings, System, Gestures, "Swipe up on home", to Off, as this works poorly IMHO, requiring a REALLY long swipe, or a double swipe(!) to get to the apps list in portrait. But a matter of taste obviously. "1 point

I can confirm this has worked for me. I never had any problems UPgrading (I did have some issues once I tried to DOWNgrade a particular combination of test build) Even when I fumbled with the first change from Test to Nightly, Following the usual flashing procedure fixed that too.1 point

You can either use the included OTA updater. Takes 30-60 minutes installing in the bakground until you need to restart the system. Keeps GApps intact. When installing via adb you will have to reboot to to recovery after installing lineage and then install GApps plus any other addons you want (with GApps needing to install before the first system boot or it'll mess up the OS). AddonSU can be flashed at a later time with no problem. I see a couple of changes logged for the next build (though, I don't quite understand what each of them does). Until now new Pro1 nightlys rolled ou1 point

Deebie, if you broke it yourself, then inexpensive method is buy replacement screen from aliexpress (less than 60USD) and then either replace it yourself (there are instructions available) or just take phone and sceen to any mobile phone fixit shop to do it for you (although I'd still bring them the instructions...)1 point

Same here. I was using ES file explorer. I could not find it anymore in the play store. I liked that you could use the app to create a shortcut (on home screen) to a specific folder in the main storage. I did not manage to do this with fx. Edit: actually it is possible under fx; there is a kind of bookmark sign when you press on the three dots menu of a specific folder of the main storage.1 point

1. If you have ModemManager running, stop it. 2. Understand that EDL is an "one shot" protocol. You must reset the device between tries. 3. EDL is very picky about USB hardware. If you cannot get it working after a few attempts, try: 3a. A different USB port. 3b. A different USB cable. 3c. With/without a USB hub. 3d. A different PC. Good luck!1 point

I use XPrivacyLUA to cntroll the applications rights and swift backup to import my cloud backups from my moto. My last brick was, I restored a app (called FolderSync) and at the same time I import a backup of XPrivacyLUA and after a reboot, LOS doesn´t boot anymore. That´s not important, tdm 🙂 You do a fantastic job! It takes to much time for me, to restore every app again and again with customs sounds, custom led notification, for some apps, etc. I have a lot of backups for the most of my apps, but I don´t like to do this anymore. I was wating 3.5 years for a KB phone, now the Pro11 point

I don't know how you managed to brick 4 times. And neither do I understand how TWRP backups are so important. Once you get the device running what you want, how does it brick again? Anyway .. I should eventually get TWRP running with decrypt. Like hopefully within a few weeks. Especially since the new ROMs I'm working on don't have a nice slick recovery like Lineage.1 point

I needed a new personal ROM to run anyway. AOKP has been dead for some time, unfortunately. AICP seems to be the closest match out there.1 point

Got AICP built but it's not booting properly. Need to investigate, but not right now. I'll try building AEX next.1 point

@EvilDragon: For the battery drain, you can start by getting a logcat and looking for something crashing constantly, or perhaps get a shell and run "top". For the fingerprint reader, it sounds like your persist fingerprint data is full. Try deleting /persist/data/fingerprint (you will need root) and then reboot. Now you should be able to enroll fingerprints and have them saved.1 point

Lineage has sticky shift. Works from either shift key, right or left.1 point

Jina App drawer seems to work in landscape mode. I have just downloaded it now. In settings there is an option to remove the virtual keyboard for search, which allows us to use our physical one directly.1 point

I wrote code to rate limit the fingerprint reader in order to reduce that eagerness. But since the fingerprint hardware driver is closed source, I had to put this between the driver and Android. This means the fingerprint driver is still detecting your finger and (trying to) pass that information up, but I'm discarding it. It is possible that the driver has some limit where it disables itself. Or perhaps I made some mistake in my rate limit code.1 point

Hi all, I hope you're well, I'm the founder of MediaDevil. I noticed we were getting some traffic from this forum so I followed the trail and voila. We're based in London (South Wimbledon) and we produce our screen protectors. If the Fxtec team entrusts us with a device for a day (we only need it for about an hour), we'll design a bespoke screen protector and it'll be ready for sale the same day. I've just emailed them. Just to comment on some of the earlier stuff: - As others have said, curved glass protectors are not the best. They tend to get lifted off the screen a1 point

I've been sticking with Quickstep for now but I'm slowly building up Total Launcher to eventually replace it.1 point

I'm using Total Launcher, as you set up different layouts and even widgets for Landscape and Portrait 🙂1 point

Same here. I used ES File Explorer for years and then they went crazy with ads and bloat and I had to start freezing it in between uses. Glad to have a good replacement option. Thanks for posting it.1 point

I contacted the support team... If it's hardware, I'll cry because that will need a replacement? I'm waiting so long to received it, work on it for a week now and having to send it back and wait to received mine repaired or a new one... Frustrating...0 points
