I'm sorry I have been so MIA around here. The main contributor to that is I love my phone and I have a case that has been going strong since I got it. I bought 2 others just in case but I haven't even unwrapped them yet because there are no failure points. Sadly, it seems to only be available in Hello Kitty prints (which works for me fabulously, but probably not for you. I am so happy to read about the new developments that are being made. I wish that there were no COVID going on because it really is messing with fxtec's rep and I think that's slightly unfair. I know some of you6 points

Hello! It’s Chen here, been a long time since we last talked or met in person. First of all I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy, regardless where you are. It might be a difficult and challenging time, but we will all fight through it together. I would also like to say thank you to our community again! Thank you for your continuous support and encouragement for Pro1 and F(x)tec, especially in this difficult time. I have to admit 2020 has not been an easy journey for us, a lot of things and plans have completely changed and everything has become more and more diff5 points

This sounds great! XDA is a huge community so I am excited to see what this project can bring for F(x)tec. Maybe it is official support for Lineage OS and Ubuntu Touch? I mean that people can buy Pro1 either with stock Android, LOS or Ubuntu Touch? Or even a new device?3 points

As a pre-order customer, we want you to let you guys know first that we are about to announce a new partnership for something special and to also reassure you that your existing Pro1 orders are top of our list. They are still in progress and queued for shipment in the coming months. We recently shipped a batch of Pro1’s and the next is scheduled for the end of October. Like other tech businesses, Covid-19 has had a significant impact on our business operatio3 points

Hello, again. I also made a bumper case 🙂 It helps me to avoid touching screen edges by accident. I also noticed that I could hold Pro1 securely because FDM printed layer lines work to prevent slipping. You can download the data from here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:46189453 points

Just a shy question: why would it need an Indiegogo campaign then? It should be something more complicated I think. Anyway, an "improved" keyboard - if there is only one layout - would be a non-sfifted QWERTY variant for me. For proper international use, that is a must. Currently the QWERTZ variant has the international ability but not everyone are German.2 points

My favorite use-case here (and it works perfectly without any special settings) is I usually turn my Pro1 to portrait with the keyboard out to read Kindle books. The keyboard acts as a very comfortable handle to hold the device and the kindle app spins about to portrait so I get more text on the screen. A great way to read and not get tired of holding the Pro1 so much.2 points

IIRC, the keyboard backlight should always be on if, and only if, both the display is on and the slider is out. The keyboard backlight code (and LED light code) is here: https://github.com/LineageOS/android_device_fxtec_pro1/blob/lineage-16.0/light/Light.cpp2 points

@npjohnson says it boots and many things work. The two biggest things to fix are radio and camera.2 points

I don't know, we will know something more on 27th about it. That is a good question who pays to whom and also there is an IGG campaign mentioned which is a user pre-payment. XDA may have higher publicity and they may be able to provide help in Lineage OS / ubtouch development. However, F(x)tec has experience in hardware development and they also have a lot of reusable parts based on Pro1. So there are some potential outcomes, but a good collaboration may result in a good product, be it anything. 🙂1 point

That's a good point, I suppose demand for this feature is low. I was more wondering if there was something existing in LOS. Coincidentally, I just sat down to test some apps and found that Rotation Control by CrapeMyrtle worked, but I have to set it to use "guard mode". This will work until I get my phone warrantied. EDIT: Seems to cause increased display latency when active. Thanks to everyone who responded with suggestions and information.1 point

That would be my guess too. Some sort of certified Android branch, LOS or otherwise. Maybe with an "improved" keyboard layout.1 point

At least one guy with a broken sensor 🙂 I think it's about enabling customisation really. @SCΛRECROW Did you try other rotation apps to see if they can help you?1 point

Given that even the German keyboard seems to be unavailable right now, I wouldn't get my hopes up...1 point

I've grabbed Pro1 in portrait-keyboard mode before to briefly deal with apps that don't play nice with landscape when the keyboard was already open. On a semi-related note i've used my laptop on it's side to watch dumb portrait video, read PDFs or simply when laying on my side before, the keyboard just acting as a support to stand it up in that mode. I'm sure other people grow odd habits like that too.1 point

I never really looked into it. But how much of a demand is there for such a setting? That is, how often do people have the keyboard out and use the device in portrait mode? Seems to me that it would be rather unusual.1 point
-
No settings in LOS as far as I can see unfortunately. Have tried various permutations of rotation options in the app to no avail. Might reach out to @tdm to see if he has any ideas.1 point

Maybe a new app, feature, or encryption protocol. Regardless none of that sounds too exciting, to me at least1 point

Any updates about being able or potentially being able to order the phone with a certain keyboard print in the future?1 point

Pretty exciting you found a new partner. It's also great to hear that works on bringing Android 10 to stock are underway. Keep going! 🙂1 point

I don't know but it looks very similar to a Pro1 box and it also has Lineage OS and ubports (I mean Ubuntu Touch) logo printed on its sides. (They have Pro1 support as also Waxberry wrote above anyway.) I have hopes, but we will see it - we may have more information on 27th October I think. ...be it anything, I am looking forward for it. 🙂 Edit: oh well, and Indiegogo was also mentioned - I hope my hope will be true, but we will see it later this month. Edit2: So it is a collaboration with XDA which has ubports and Lineage OS support (these projects are also have suppor1 point

Here is an article about it on XDA-Developers. Also an e-mail arrived from F(x)tec together with a subscribe button.1 point

@Waxberry thanks for sharing and I am curious about this new project. Please update also here if anyone have found any information / announcement with the details. Anyway, I love my Pro1 and I am looking forward also for your new project.1 point

I will also have replacement screens in my shop including a replacement service soon. Also, if you use a case which covers the screen (I can take some pictures of it), then the screen is perfectly safe. Cracked mine a few times before I got the case, after that, it never happened again.1 point

Hello community! First of all: Many thanks (mostly to @tdm I guess) for providing LOS -- I think it is the most useful and polished OS for the Pro1 by quite some margin. After trying, both, Stock and SFOS, I have used LOS exclusively on my device almost since day 1. My (small) problem: Even though this is supposed to be fixed, it still happens to me that the keyboard backlight switches off, and can be re-enabled only by sliding the keyboard in- and out. I notice this mostly when using Microsoft's "Remote Desktop 8" app (although I do not think the issue is related to the app).1 point

On Lineage this seems to be build in. Under Settings -> Apps & notifications -> Notifications -> Notification light. Then you can apps you want to control the light for with the plus on the upper right if you enable "Use custom values".1 point

We got a long thread filled with various suggestions here I got my own with links to where I got the different ones i experimented with here. You can modify most cases for a "Huawei p20 pro" with a small pair of scissors in a few minutes.1 point
