I have a feeling they may want to investigate the problem deeper. I am sure a simple replacement of the screen will solve your problem, but they may want to change the screen assembly of your phone, then test the original display to see the potential source of the fault. However, if I remember well, you are in the USA, which may bring up some additional customs problem, however, their current state of Brexit may bring the same problems also for EU members...2 points

Ones more for all Germans: Activation of the hardware keyboard QWERTZ and the yellow keys without installation of FinQwerty: System → Languages and input → Physical keyboard → Builtin keyboard → "German Android keyboard" System → Keys → EXTRAS: Other keys → Hardware keyboard: Layout "qwertz" and Custom keymap "on" After that, the key layout works perfectly, including the yellow arrow keys and the yellow special characters, like ! "§ $% & / () =?` @ € µ2 points

I'm almost certain it's not the port. I'm not altogether convinced it's a hardware issue at all, but I could be wrong. I'll probably ask the guys at FxTec to explain what the problem is once they get hold of it. Might give some pointers on what to look out for.1 point

Because I paid to ship from US to UK rather then they just shipping me a part at their expense. 😉 They will pay for the return trip for my phone.1 point

Maybe there is a way of stating it is a repair and not a new order, I don't know if there is a special declaration in customs about this kind of shipment. The UK is currently problematic because of Brexit will take effect in 1st of January, even if they don't have agreement with EU and still they have no agreement but the end of the year is almost here. I don't know if they started to establish agreements with other countries (but I think so) for example with the USA but actual state of the Brexit process is not good at all as the worst-case scenario is getting very close being without1 point

You are right, of course, especially as more of these cases pop up. They may want to go and do a deeper cause analysis. I don't begrudge them that. It's inconvenient (and a little more expensive) for me, but I can see why they are doing it. Ran into no problems with shipping to the UK... no new extra tariff on my end, don't know about their end.1 point

I do too. They said something to the effect of they had no way to know for sure that would solve the problem. Sounds like a change in policy to me. I worry a little bit because the problem is sometimes intermittent.1 point

Sooo... back on topic (but AICP is still going to come up)... As I had indicated above, things kept getting worse and worse. I referred to them as demon possessions because the touches would end up firing off in bunches, launching apps, pulling down the notification shade, launching things from there, etc. It went from happening after 2 hours of using my Pro1 to 1 hour after to 5-20 minutes of use with only turning off the phone for a while worked. Investing in startups is like taking a bet, sometimes you lose. However, so far FxTec customers overall are on the winning side. That's coming from the guy who wrote "I own two broken Pro1s" and "Unboxing my thrid Pro1" 😁 Being a regular on those forums I'm confident there are hundreds if not thousands of happy Pro1 users who never had an issue with their device. I've been using Pro1 as my daily driver for almost a year, only had to change the screen once after the touch panel broke down. Thankfully I was lucky to buy on short notice a spare device from a gentleman on those forums so1 point

I think you're mostly right. I don't think you should consider this a "normal" pre-order or even order, there are huge red flags that indicate to me that you might not get your product or your money back. It's not a malicious company or anything though, I fully believe F(x)tec wants to supply these products and refund the people that want refunds (though they probably want you to enjoy the product instead), this just seems to be a fact of a pretty small company trying to do something very ambitious. There's a risk that's normally not present when buying products, however if you approach it fro1 point

Well I ordered the phone waaaay before the first was out and I was even more uncertain if I get one. But the way I see it is this: I am complaining about the missing HWKB on phones since years. I still miss my N900. Even my wife remembers that phone, because I made a huge drama when it died! So now I got the chance to support my goal. Instead of just whining about it all the time, I decided to take the risk and pledge that 800$. It was way more than I ever paid for a phone and I wasn't sure that I get anything for it. Well for my part that is what I feel. The issues I experience are all pure software. (though I have improved it with a few strategically places tiny self-adhesive rubber stickers) But sure as many have stated there are faulty units (would have been a miracle otherwise), but the handling of those certainly seem like it could have been better. And the same goes for the software bugs. But as they are a dedicated team I do still believe the later will be ironed out. Also remember that a forum like this will always present a disproportional amount of bugs, as people (for obvious reasons1 point

I have a bit of a unique perspective as a developer that was given a device and also privileged to some extra chats with FxTec. FxTec is a good company with good people and good intentions. They have worked very hard to deliver even though covid killed their ODM and almost killed them. They will do their best to get all orders filled, I'm sure of that. That said, FxTec has awful communication practices. I truly feel for folks that pay good money and don't get any updates for weeks or months. And for folks that send their device in for repair then don't get any ETA or u1 point

I really believe that everyone will get their phone and things will speed up over time, even though fxtec has struggled to get things done in a timely manner so far. Bringing a phone to market as a startup is no easy feat. Your concerns are legit though, I'd only advice taking the dive if you are willing to wait.1 point

After purchasing the fx pro last year i never recieved it , i tried email and i did get a nice respond back but no banana in the end ,i stil even have the reciept of payment and the invoice of the device never recieved it and im stil hopping it wil come in the next batch of shipping but i stil have my blackberry priv and it stil works . i am stil disapointed not recieving the original one but what can ya do . right wait thats about it then there was going to be a big anounchment from fx tech and u could sign up for it i was even waiting for the email to recieve , and i follo0 points
