This is just a review I posted at another site. I am not a professional reviewer nor can I claim to be independent. 😉 http://forum.brighthand.com/threads/review-of-the-f-x-tec-pro1-keyboard-slider-smartphone-2019.293542/#post-1916292 My perspective is from a less-technical user and a writer. This is a site with a lot of folks who go way back, to PDAs.6 points

Well yes and no. As we are not told where we are in the queue that would not help much for the individual. But what they could tell with each would be something like . The batch that just left the factory will cover pre-orders with IGG coupons with payment received before DD MMM And after all coupon orders handled . The batch that just left the factory will cover pre-orders with payment received before DD MMM4 points

For me, the most secure way is to rest it in the palm so it has much resistance on full back body. The Thumb press feels quite "light" then compared to only holding it at the outer edge on tiny space. https://mosushi.de/misc/VID_20191224_132828.mp44 points

Their estimates on batches and production in general seem to not have included issues in manufacturing or with suppliers or with supplied parts, whereas reality often includes such issues, nixing estimates no matter how diligently they were made. The good news is, manufacturing does happen, and as long as it does, sooner or later we'll get those phones – even if it is always 'later' in our case...3 points

A simple video showing the SFOS port on the Pro¹, and more specifically Ubu Chromium (run in its own window, and then from xfce4 desktop environment): https://youtu.be/DLl92bISgAo I'm sorry about the overexposure of white web pages. I lowered the screen brightness and adjusted the camera settings, but not enough. 😕2 points

The post for the 3/10th of pre-orders is here. F(x)tec doesn't seem to have ever followed their 1 batch a week plan. I find the fact that this indicates they could not predict what was going to be produced one week in advance kind of insulting for them. I've lost track of dates, but it's not impossible the volumes for that large batch cover the missing shipments of that one batch a week (basically, if they missed the 1 week deadline for three weeks, and this last week contains all that was produced during those weeks).2 points

I always make sure to have some popcorn at hand when I check out this forum. The intensity of whiny children is warming my heart. And the conspiracy theories are better than lizard people, and god forbid - a spherical earth. 😉2 points

Have to agree heavy video usage will drain it fast especially if hardware accelerated which it probably was.2 points

That seems like a different issue then. You already have a rough approximation, but you don't trust their word and the approximation. You don't want more information, you want more accurate/truthful information. Which seems even more hopeless to get if you're just asking for more information, and I see no reason for them to change their course now.2 points

Came across this on my surprisingly difficult quest to find an acceptable free (and ad free) text editor for android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.gsantner.markor&hl=en or on f-droid https://f-droid.org/en/packages/net.gsantner.markor/ It has some special mode for editing markdown which isn't really my favorite thing in the world, however it works nicely and plain text also is editable just fine. Also it's open source.2 points

OK, I will try to remember the best as I can. As I recall, at one point using keyboard in Microsoft Outlook (my key reason for physical keyboard is that I do a lot of email), I did not get any suggestions for auto-completion or spelling - so I activate virtual keyboard. It was too big, and I turned it off. After this, the annoying keyboard problem started happening. It seems to me that it gets triggered with other keyboard settings, and if I use on-screen keyboard in another application. To answer your questions specifically: 1) When keyboard is not working, the Logo-key does2 points
-
Yes and does the Logo-key stop working as home?2 points
-
Also let us know when the keyboard stops working like so, does the caps key still turn the caps led on/off?2 points
-
It is VERY interesting if you can make this annoying bug reproducable, as most see it rarely, I have not seen it since spring on a preproduction unit. So please try to describe the steps needed, and if it is related to specific apps or the like.2 points
-
They kinda did that, with the 5 to 10% number, and we have an approximation of the total orders as well. I don't see a reason to be more specific then.2 points

VoLTE is turned off by default on the phone. Try *#*#4636#*#* and flip all the switches and reboot. Please let us know if this makes VoLTE work so others can know. Also, it sounds hairy over there. Stay safe!1 point

I use 2 fingers, one under each corner. Lift then push while bringing the 2 fingers towards you so they catch the hinge. I find this method reduces how much the phone jumps when the screen snaps open.1 point

Can you try again using these steps? https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/using-project-fi-supported-phone-sms-t3772051/amp/1 point

Nah, we do. 1-2 /10's each week, and a large one was 3/10 once. If you choose to no longer trust these statements is a different problem.1 point

Thanks for the info :). The caps LED i mean is the little green dot on the caps lock key itself, it should light up when caps lock is on.1 point
-
They never disclosed that info before, what makes you think they will do it now? I don't really know what the big deal is in divulging the number of orders. Unless they're holding onto that info to seem bigger than they appear1 point

This is actually a variation of the method I have been using and it works very well for me.1 point

Yes indeed, important detail, thanks. I actually usually do that. Just updated the primary post here on that.1 point

It's a shame about the production delays. My old phone recently experienced a significant hardware failure and as much as I want a phone with a keyboard, I can't wait an indefinite amount of time for it to be shipped, especially with the price increase. It's a lot of money to be tied up uselessly. I was hoping for more concrete information here. If I don't see anything definite by the end of the holidays I'll have to go buy a Samsung.1 point

Israel: Pelephone - LTE/WCDMA network (No VoLTE) Partner (ex Orange) - Global network (No VoLTE) Need to try the mule method. Roaming at Netherlands worked flawlessly for both SIMs, can't remember the networks.1 point

Apart from the number of participants being way too low, I could imagine that many people having gotten their phone wouldn't check he forum. Imagine if 100 people in this forum got the phone but only 15 still check the forum. The conclusion would be all over the place and there's no way for us of getting these people to this forum.1 point

My Christmas present to all the new(er) names I see posting recently, realism: 1st, by his own admission, @Erik updates are unofficial, so pls. do not think of this as a promise; either for batch shipping, or your personal order: this is only another 'expected'. 2nd, no matter how useful we customers might think they would be, F(x) never tell us the size of batches. So don't expect a reply, or anything helpful like that. And for the record, I have so completely lost faith in anything F(x) say, official or otherwise, that, sadly, I have formally requested a refund 😞. Selling t1 point

Not that it matters considering all the reasons explained in the above posts, but since I am also into making guesses based on very incomplete data to estimate when we're likely to get a Pro1, here's the actual group size at the time of writing this post: 2,656. You can find it here.1 point

We can still draw the conclusion we are a jolly bunch of pollclickers :).1 point

Brief Christmas update. A small batch is shipping out this Friday, if UPS keeps its promises. It was meant to arrive today, but our staff availability is limited in the UK right now. No stock assignment letters for this one, as we are shipping them a little differently to avoid extra delays. Some of you will have tracking info on Friday. The big batch which should make a lot of you happy is expected to leave the factory in the 1st week of January, which is also when we expect you’ll have the tracking details. We would like to thank everyone for their patience. Merry1 point

I can not wait to hear their verdict. But on the other hand I can do without the whining that I expect would follow by some of those still waiting for one, for thus bypassing the queue.1 point

....Here a trimmed and reduced 0.25x slow motion video showing it in more detail. Note how the back lifts as the first, as the initial push is slightly downwards on the front edge. YouCut_20191223_174454298.mp41 point

Ran into the non-responding keyboard. Restart solved it. I'm only bringing it up to point out that, having been spending a week putting the Pro 1 through it's paces and hitting this only once makes it a *very* infrequent issue, which means it's going to be damn hard to figure out. Have I mentioned what an amazing, premium phone this is. Nothing wrong with an 835 SOC, that's for sure!1 point

Maybe some weren't. But this one was. It's even listed in specs on home page, as someone already pointed out.1 point

I don't use Google Pay either due to privacy reasons, but your argument is still wrong. It doesn't matter what smartphones were created for, it's the question what they are used for. And if people are used to watching the latest dog pictures in some internet forum (cough cough), then their criticism would be absolutely valid, if they couldn't do that with the Pro1. NFC payments have been part of smartphones a while ago and for many people have become a selling point nowadays. Just because you don't use it, doesn't mean that an advertised function can be missing or not working. A1 point

Keyboard issue: keyboard works only until I use the screen key board for the first time (e.g. in application). After that, physical keyboard is dead - until the reboot. Super annoyed...0 points

Hello Erik, Your support told me that my device will be shipped by the end of December or the first week of January. So I will wait until the 6th of January 2020 before I will cancel my order. After a year of waiting it's enough. I hoped to give the device to my wife today. So I feel frustrated and disappointed.0 points
