  1. As I replied to the OP here: highly recommend this phone, but not to everyone... Sure this phone does not fit anyone. Show me a single thing that does, being electronic or anything else. Well except perhaps pure fresh water for drinking... And there is NO device out there (exist or announced planned) that come even close to being nearer what I would wish for. That is not to say that it is perfect. And I can easily find individual things that I would prefer from other devices. The main issue for me was the placement of the fingerprint reader, but when put in a flip case, that disapp

  2. That just show that these guys are really great. Thumbs up for the nice handling F(x)tec. And thumbs up to you for wanting to provide us with some photos. There is a disassembly manual (see post by @netman above), that might be helpful, though it is made for the more complex version without the corner stickers, so less heat/gun should be needed for the real stuff. It would be great if you could describe what has changed, that is where the manual do not match.

  3. My local phone guy wouldn't touch it because he had no idea what it was. Fair. I let it dry, been checking once a week or so, I've accepted it's not coming back to life. I contacted f(x)tec, who responded very promptly given the current state of the world, and offered a very generous discount under their service replacement policy. I was not expecting that at all, as they really have no responsibility for this mishap beyond releasing a phone that they transparently stated had no waterproofing. I asked if trying to service it would void that offer, and they replied as long as I can put it

  4. They also have a logo in nearly the same color theme as that bottle on IGG...

  5. You may regret that, depending on how literally some people interpret it......LOL

  6. multiplayer with PC is selling point to me - will have to check that out. I have played it PC single player and it was fun on its own and thought that with other people it might be even more fun.

  7. I could be wrong, in my experience the adhesive holding such cables etc into phones doesn't really require a heat gun although it may help. Batteries are another story, those don't always come out in one piece... Edit: looking at the manual again that cable at the bottom does look like it has a big area adhered to the case inside but I don't see why anyone would remove it unless the cable itself is to be replaced.

  8. That is interesting! In the guide a lot of cables needs heating to detach. Great if they have found other types of adhesive, not needing that.

  9. The video proves that this mechanism will require a lot of muscle memory. And I'm not entirely sure how they're planing on connecting the screen in a durable way to the rest of the chassis. For me this is a no go, it all looks quite flimsy, plus the aforementioned weird way of pushing the screen out, up, back down and back over the chassis doesn't inspire faith. This device is way too big for me. I'm already struggling with the Pro1 at certain moments, this will not do. It's a complete different target audience for sure...

  10. Here goes nothing... https://www.dropbox.com/sh/hffh8qtsljmfa7x/AAAu0ozxcIQ--kZY31nZmA_Ya?dl=0 All photos by me, and I may add more if time permits. That is, if I have anything else that crops okay in portrait and landscape.

  11. Good recommendation. I just gave this game a try, it's pretty fun, and yep you can turn the onscreen "Button Opacity" to 0% and just use keyboard, with a little remapping its great! A sidenote to anyone who decides to try this game, you can't just install the apk, gotta follow the install directions on the site to install the game-data manually.

  12. Sorry, too hastily written should have been "I don't....", not at all meant as a suggestion that others should not, I just only need a corner of your toolbox.

  13. ...post photo. it looks like on old plasma tv or you have missing color? burned amoled display is classic problem specially if you use full brightness 😞

  14. This is a surprise to see Firefox as one of the most used. It is a great Desktop browser, but on mobile I was using Brave since it was known widelly(it should have been there as option, instead of Edge), as Adblock at that time was not working on Firefox properly, but from the last year switched to DuckDuckGo.

  15. Yep, works online and you can race with PC clients of RVGL. There is even huge scene of that game, even with tournaments! Many people play with phones.

  16. Wow, this is interesting - does it have multi-player capabilities? Anyway, do not have that much time to play with this phone properly and test things out, but I am happy that the games that I ported from previous phone, works: Creature Quest & Clash of Clans.

  17. Try to wipe cache and data of the Updater app.

  18. No heat gun should be needed atall, unless you want to either delaminate the keyboard assembly or take the screen off the backing behind it.

  19. Yes, those that got the 20200304 (on Oct. security patch level) has problems, those that got the 20200306 (On Sep.) does not. I hope it wont be long before we get a new update uniting the two, on a newer security level.

  20. not well I didn't apply it quite straight which caused the corners to start peeling off so going to apply the second one hopefully straight! 😄

  21. Something was broken for early adopters of that OTA, it was fixed later on. I'm one of the unlucky few to run the broken one. Good to know it runs on yours then. Hope they push a new OTA soon.

  22. Odd, I've downloaded and executed the app just fine. I'm running stock Android and the last OTA I got was the one that fixed the keyboard, nothing else.

  23. What about the cable... Will that be freely exposed on the underside when opened? It can not be seen here on the rendering so maybe it curls up under the keyboard somehow?

  24. Can we get a website similar to what Google gives for its hardware binaries and firmware images, like so? https://developers.google.com/android/drivers It would make it way easier to support the community and the development of alternate ROMs, or to roll your own without having to: Is there a walkthrough for pulling binaries off a device? What is the procedure to factory restore a device if you brick it when making a ROM?

  25. I would buy a phone from them if Pro1 would not exists and in the future, I would like to have a Pro2 instead of Astro slide. I like the idea of having vertical slider phones available but I find Pro1's solution to be much better.

  27. I'm all for it. Any company that is willing to develop smartphones with QWERTY keyboards gets my support (not necessarily financially). Not too sure about the name though. It's only one letter away from https://astroglide.com/products

  28. I am not convinced because I want to type with my thumbs :P. It's a cool device though and seems like a step up from cosmo.

  29. You really should not throw apples after people, doctors or not.... 😇
    1 point
  30. I agree! But that could perhaps be because it is considered general knowledge in this day and age. The old saying "an apple a day keeps the doctor away" has, of course, still a lot of truth in it. Then again, there are pathogens which don't give a damn how well you've eaten and exercised and whatnot; when they enter your system, you'll get sick. Your immune system, of course, still has a word to say about how quick (if at all) you'll recover...

  34. I've had experience in fixing laptops for years and even disassembled the odd tablet or two. By far the scariest experience was replacing the battery in my Priv. Personally I don't think I'd have the confidence to disassemble my Pro1 even with the service instructions. I had hoped the battery would be easier to replace. Maybe I need to wait for the Pro2 for a user replaceable battery...

  35. It's definitely the Snapdragon 835 CPU. The sound issue is a bug with the system forcing a power saving rule as investigated below. This is at the top of our list for the coming update/s.
