  1. Tjenare Fxtec! I will hold off on asking for a refund. But I am very unhappy of the downgrade to SD622 from SD835! And especially unhappy about how you as a company have handled the situation towards me and us as customers. You need to explain your situation, background, constraints and thereof choices openly and honestly. Not in intentionally muddled and veiled, almost nothing saying, sugar-coated, typical corporate official speak. Be upfront with the downsides, just as well as you're being upfront with the upsides of the change - otherwise you just appear disingenuous and dish

  2. I recently had to stop using my N900 because important SMSes from bank and police were shown blank. I bought an entry level Android phone. Using the touchscreen to type on a small screen sucks. Almost anything with a physical keyboard would be better. Perhaps you can now guess what my vote was.

  4. New decode codecs: Codec AVC Codec h265 / HEVC (10 bit) Also supports hardware encode for: Codec h264 Codec JPEG * But they can be accelerated on the GPU anyway and I suspect they added the hardware support to make up for the lower performance GPU and CPU.

  6. Doubt Qualcomm knows or cares about any of this.....Fx likely deals with a redistributor. I mean Qualcomm is pretty much a monopoly. why would they care about a company that cant even fill a hour of production work? When the world is in a chip shortage. And if they really wanted to be Ethical ..they should start by combining the 600 series and 400 series, since they are clearly low end chips they are trying to upsell. I think you confuse qualcomm for a good guy 😛 When they are a coperate entity.....Even China has fined them for monopoly! CHINA!!! On a side note! Why did you no

  7. The screen has adhesive around the edges. The middle part of the display which originally adhesive was covered I think for easier disassembly. You should apply some heat near the edges of screen but avoid excessive heat. The best is if you have a temperature-controlled heat gun, but use it at the lowest temperature (100 Celsius degree for me) and a bit away to not stress the plastic parts (or even the display, but it is not important now 🙂 ). Then try to gently separate the display and frame using a slim guitar picker. Ensure to not stress the frame mechanically, so do not break

  8. But you might be able to find a local trustworthy repair shop, where you could bring the device and screen, and have them replace it. I do not know if FxTec got hem in stock, but try contacting them at support@fxtec.com, I would wish spare parts were more available, too, I personally would like to have a few things in store for the years to come.

  9. As @EskeRahn wrote, replacement display is available on Aliexpress. However, you have to separate original display from the frame and glue the new one in. So you may need some tools like "guitar picker", but it seems it usually comes together with these replacement screens. I have changed my screen a few months ago as my original screen started to get spontaneous touch actions. However, yesterday I had to replace my replaced screen again as it has started to has problems which initially seemed to be "solved" by turning the screen off/on again, but yesterday it became completely dead

  10. @Hook is probably right. Like for the original Pro1, Fxtec will provide pre-production devices to Lineage and UBPorts (maybe Sailfish, too?) community developers. They have the necessary connections in the community, so I am quite confident there will be at least unofficial ports of LineageOS and UbuntuTouch available by the time the Pro1-X hits the marked. Pro1-X will be supported by upstream (Android) much longer than the original Pro1. I have no worries that, in the long term, it will get a strong community of developers behind it. In my own interest, I of course hope community suppor

  11. Even so that Qualcomm would not support SD835 anymore it does not mean that SD835 is totally outdated. SD835 uses Linux kernel 4.4 which has long-term support to February 2022. Android users rejoice! Linux kernel LTS releases are now good for 6 years https://www.kernel.org/category/releases.html

  12. The PCB supplier is the one who also sources the SoC for the customer, and for the PCB the customer wants. If the PCB supplier can't get more pieces of that SoC, that's it. After all, the customer can hardly source the SoC elsewhere and solder it on the PCBs themselves. Also, when a SoC has been discontinued, it can hardly be expected that anyone could still purchase it just because some other PCB manufacturer might still be lucky to have some in stock. And a tiny company like Fxtec with such small quantities of their single (!) product doesn't have a choice. They can't go to Samsung

  13. Without being an expert, I get that their partner manufacturing the PCB relies on an upstream supplier who cannot deliver the 835 anymore, but there is a licence for the 662 instead. Other PCP manufacturers could still purchase the 835 (from their different upstreams). However Fxtec cannot switch, as they do not own the PCB blueprints. Any new PCB supplier would have to re-design the board from scratch according to Fxtec specs, which they cannot afford.

  15. I'm confused about how the change in SoC will affect people who chose to get pre-loaded LineageOS or Ubuntu. Since there's no lineageos support currently for 662 since all the work was done for 835, does that mean that everyone will get stock android 11 in August when the phone ships? Or will Fxtec have official support for lineageos prior to shipping the phones and I'll be able to flash the phone from android to lineageos as soon as I get it in August?

  16. How sad. If it is the display only. You can get displays that fits for the "Elephone U". e.g. this on AliExpress (just a random pick out of many)

  17. And I'm sure 835 will never get Android 11 🙃. We'll be lucky if we ever get 10. LoS is ok, but the kernel is still 9. These are clearly the tradeoffs for the 'new and improved' Pro1x. And, if they make any effort to continue backing by XDA, LoS support for a 662 Pro1 would be the least of my worries 😌.

  19. As always, the answers aren't here in a user forum, but I'm pretty confident that FxTec is going to do everything needed to transition the ports to the new SOC requirements. I think the Devs, who partially jumped into this because of their own interest in having a good keyboard phone available, will too. Maybe a few new prototypes will be passed around. I am sure this will get done given 7+ months to do it. However, if you want an answer, you will have to email FxTec.

  20. Yes I suspect this would be the case. Also one blueprint for the PCB won't necessarily switch anyway to another suppliers manufacturing process.

  21. Instead of cutting I suggest you purchase or borrow a rotary kit like a Dremel. If you take the time, you can make any hole you want, make any specific spot al little thinner, mod cases how you want. I've modded several U20 Pro cases with a Dremel MIcro 8050 this way.

  22. Hi everyone! Is there any fix for the WCDMA reboots? I have a lot of reboots every time I leave the city or go down in elevator -- every time when my phone tries to get 3G. 4G and GSM are working well but if i try to select "WCDMA only" connection type the phone immediately starts rebooting.

  23. SD662 (Q1 2020) is almost the same chip than SD665 (Q2 2019). I think that both chips will be supported to same date. Same goes for SD732G (2020 Q3) and SD730G (2019 Q2). So, I don't think that there is difference between SD730G vs SD662 in the life cycle. And there is also SD720G (2020 Q1) which is as old as SD662. I think that it is all about the cost. Personally I would ditch 48MP camera sensor if that could save some money for SD700 series. But if the SD662 is the only choice then I take it.

  24. Hello! I've been following these discussions for a while, but finally signed up. I have a Z3 that's paid off in August, and the Pro1 will be my next phone. Really wanted the keyboard Mod, but I think having a full-time keyboard phone is a better solution. I miss my HTC Pro 2 running XDAndroid back in the day. As far as the SoC change, My Z3 has an 835, and my son's Z4 has a 675 (which is similar to the 662 in performance). For the way we use our phones, I've never seen any disadvantage to the Z4. The Z4 is generally faster at loading apps, such as Pokemon Go. Also, I'm hopi

  25. But can you give an alternative? Remember this is crowdfunding. So if they get cheated, we as the investors in the project get cheated, but these good guys does not just fold, but say, hey we can give you something close for what is left..

  26. Thank you @claude0001 for putting that down to words. Even if F(x)tec goes with the SD662, I will follow them. All because they have shown to deserve the trust and they are the ones being screwed. I don't want to screw them more than what they already are by canceling my pledge. I do wish they would explain better the situation they are in. Could it be stress?

  27. If what they say about their supplier is 100% true I would start by changing supplier and asking compensations from the previous one.

  28. It seems they're currently doing damage control in the Indiegogo comments. Information so far is the 662 can in fact do HDMI/Ubuntu Touch video output. ...One juicy tidbit seems to be that part of the reason for going with the 662 is: ...its the chipset their supplier already has access to, and going with something else would cost extra.

  30. I could wait even longer. The Pro1x is a device I plan on using for years, it's an investment for the long term and being niche, I know it won't get iterations and updates every year. I'd rather wait years and have it finally delivered with no compromises. An older SOC is not an issue for me, I plan on using mainline eventually, which also answers the question on whether I care about certification (however, I believe having Android as an option really increased the backer base and was therefore likely a sound decision). My plan is to use the device to run Mobile Linux, meaning it's best if the

  31. Yes, I need that certification. I don't buy a $700 phone just so that I have to carry yet another phone for the important things like communicating with my health insurance. By the way, I voted "Other option", but I really meant "5 months but worse SoC" – it may sound worse, but if someone doesn't buy the Pro1 as a gaming device they won't even notice. I don't care for benchmark figures on paper. I've been using a Moto Z3 Play for 1½ years. It has a SD 636 which is slightly slower than than the 662, both in CPU and GPU, and it's been more than enough for anything I'll do in the fore

  32. I honestly hope the way this "resolves" itself is that maybe FxTec somehow still make enough money from Pro1 and ProX sales in the future so that they can take their time, gather their resources and come out with a Pro2 that's truly a flagship device in a year or two. We, their clients now, are part of this company's first stumbling steps and I hope we can get it to a constant sprint in a few years time. For the sort of "Mom and Pop" shop they are at the moment, I'm quite impressed with what they managed to do up to now. But yes, if I didn't already have my Pro1, the downgrade news w

  34. Battery and replacement screen are currently available at their their Indiegogo page, however, I don't know for how long. I also hope these parts will be available to purchase soon directly from them, especially the USB panel... and maybe the keyboard.
