  1. Remember @Erik is here unofficially. He likely posted on a vacation day, because he's awesome like that. πŸ™‚

  2. edit: Unfortunately it turns out this info wasn't for this phone. It turned out to coincidentially be for a Kickstarter I backed from YEARS ago and had not been tracking and coincidentially lined up. Sorry for the false alarm. Just got my tracking info. Which... I guess this could be something else, bu

  3. We had very limited staff availability last week because of the Christmas days off here in the UK, while the amount of customer requests is surprisingly identical. We will get back to everyone next week, but it won’t be immediately as we’ll probably have a massive backlog because of the days off. This is a pretty standard thing to expect from most companies out there during the Christmas season.

  4. I'll just add all 4 combinations so everyone can get either Czech Y/Z order regardless of which HW layout they have πŸ™‚

  6. Strong magnets will make it think the keyboard is closed when it is not, because there is a hall sensor to detect a magnet on the screen side of the device at the top right of the keyboard (holding as one would type in landscape). If you bring them close enough to that hall sensor anyway.

  7. I took one off for science a while back. PH0 driver fits. [edit] And my plastic prying tool damaged the circle sticker a bit but it reattached quite nicely. I'm looking into having custom small circle stickers made with a more interesting print than just black πŸ™‚.

  8. You should probably contact support and ask them directly, often more fruitful than the forums I think. However we do know it's the same screen as Elephone U and U Pro, so these in theory should fit: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32952316407.html

  9. It could sit just fine closed in portrait. However it could be an issue NOT having it pressing one of the keys... It would require 'jaws' with large clearance (about 7-8cm) to grip symmetric around the device and above the volume rockers. If asymmetric it needs some 5cm clearance to get across the power and volume rocker.

  10. I'm only a 90% sure. The reason for expecting these to fit is that Chen (@Waxberry) showed a photo of a box full of screens on which the numbers are the ones of these panels. We also know screen protectors for this Elephone U fit exactly (which I can confirm first-hand). And do take my advice to contact support, they'll be more certainer, and perhaps have instructions on how to replace. Hope you get it good as new soon :).

  12. They've been working hard fielding angry requests from grumpy customers. They need a good break so they don't all have a nervous breakdown. I'm sure they'll help you when they return. If it still works in the meantime, you're not totally stuck, right?

  13. From what we have heard is should be very service friendly. Is I understand it the only thing that is not accessible by screws should be the keyboard plate (that requires a heat gun)
    1 point
  14. I'm sorry to hear that, that's unfortunate. That's partly why I am too scared to use my clack out in the wild (the other is whether to venture onto LineageOS). Hopefully the Unicorn Beedle brands of the world will make a rugged case at some point. FWIW EskeRahn has a topic on here linking to his blog where a certain case can be modified to help protect the bottom. This doesn't help in your specific case, but it's a start hopefully (link -> https://eskerahn.dk/?p=3620). Hypothetical, more for discussion than action. Recommend you wait on Fxtec support -> Let's say you order t

  15. Mine was from Clove Tech, received safely...though you can believe I was standing at the door waiting for the UPS delivery driver. The universe is conspiring against pre-orderers and my attempt at 'cheating' would be just my luck to be stolen by my first ever porch pirate.

  16. is not possible to good separe curved glass from display and then quality glue it back without any problems , bubbles and defects. ....AND for any service technician it this very hard and long time work. Display self is cheap (approx 50-70USD) if you search for original BOE display for elefone u pro....just check part numbers

  17. PS If you add an iron ring to use with a magnetic car holder, it would make a LOT of sense to have the flap turning downwards... As the flap would otherwise fall over the phone if placed closed in landscape (say for sat nav)
    1 point
  18. If the flap is the other way you can not hold it in your left in portrait and operate it with your right, unless you fold the flap under, and that gives a poor grip. But for those holding the device in the right hand, and operate with the right it is better to have the flap the other way. If the other way the flap is slightly obstructing keyboard usage, but not substantially, if your thumbs are long enough to reach across. But sure as a westerner it feels more natural that it opens like our books, and not like say a Japanese book.

  20. In Europe you totally still have protections in case you get a faulty device and the company doesn't want to help you. The credit card's protection would most likely also have a specific option for "faulty device". You just need to send the device back, that's basically the only difference. Note, I can't see this applying because the customer service is slower to reply during the Christmas season, just saying.

  21. hm... I kinda hoped it'd be cheaper, because the screen and touch stull work and just the glass needs replacement.. thanks for the info though.

  23. Well brodit is really good. Have it in several cars and have nothing to complain about. Just was sad few times, that the E7 cannot be opened in the holder. Unfortunately this is not possible, but also not that necessary. I think I will try a "brodit" 3d print, cause I love the in car installation system and the way of easy transportability to another car/phone etc. Edit: first of all I will try how that works with universal brodit holder, charger included. Have that here. Then we will see.

  27. To be honest I didn't know it comes with a widget xD. I use launchtime as a launcher now, which doesn't even support widgets, but I like it that way.

  28. Yes upside down. Oddly I was not able to find any cases designed for right handed people, only for holding in right hand in portrait and operate with the left (really odd as most people are right handed BTW)

  30. He seems to be an extremely kind and helpful guy. Super responsive to all the small ideas and suggestions I have come up with, Perfecting the Danish for qwertY as well as qwertZ, and as far as I know, he has not even received his own unit yet.

  31. No fear. So far community members have perfectly helped each other in configuring and afaik everyone solved eventual starting issues. I had perfectly mapped QWERTZ on Android thanks to community members explaining FinQwerty use to me. Now that i run Sailfish i try to give back and have propsed a mapping for SFOS QWERTZ. Just ask here or in the unofficial Discord for more chattier help!

  32. There is now a launcher that supports Android 10 native desktop mode. I really hope that Pro1 will get Android 10 update soon! Flow Desktop is the first launcher built for Android 10’s hidden Desktop Mode

  33. Just a brief summary from me, I may do better review once I used it for some longer time. But I wanted to give a short update so people see that the phone is not as bad as some people here say: I am using the phone for 4 days now and can say I am happy. Build quality is great, it feels premium! I expected it to be more bulky. I still need some time to get used to the keyboard but I love it. However, Finqwerty is a must for me to remap the layout. Fxtec tried to much on that one. The only HW thing that really sucks is the pfingerprint reader. Especially its position. I always loc

  34. Further to this, we wanted to ship the small batch today, but it did not arrive earlier this week as we expected. The courier bringing the stock to the UK confirmed it will arrive sometime today, which means tracking for the next small batch will be provided to you on Monday. The big batch is also on the way for January - that one will notify of stock assignment.

  35. You may very well have just saved weeks of head scratching trying to identify this issue! Thank you for sharing this!

  36. Yeah I feel there's a lot of repackaging information so that it sounds better. "We're sending a big batch lol haha we're so random and productive!" Vs. "Those 2 previous batches weren't sent out lol oops but now they are. Sorry."

What is their progress with licencing, certificates, how much of phones are already during packaging(percentage), how many of them are being shipped to London etc. How much of their contract with the factory is completed. Can we even know that they won't experience the same difficulties with shipping. How they will ship it, we paid quite a big amount of money for shipping. What difficulties they are facing now. I don't want photos from the factory that could mean everything, I want data. We know about FCC certificate only because people are mining all sources to find any inform

  40. I wish there was a better QA process since even skimming through the photos the first thing I noticed was "User Manuel" (https://fccid.io/2AUCLQX1000/Users-Manual/User-Manual-4458328). I hope that Manuel is not the only user of this device :-D .

  41. Yes, you are correct that the date keeps getting pushed back. But face it, we're throwing money at a small company which has (basically) no experience handling a project like this. They've just started and I, for one, am going to give them the benefit of the doubt. This is no Samsung with their huge ass marketing machine, or dozens upon dozens of engineers pumping out batch after batch of prototype. If I don't get my phone, sure, that fucking sucks. But this is kind of like dealing with a stock exchange: you might get burned. Deal with it. If you don't want to take the chance, cancel your o

  44. I haven't used a screen protector and to be honest I do not know how the screen broke. It got its first scratch at the top-right of the front, because I dropped it accidentally. But the way it looks now... I really don't know how it happened. FxTec support is on vacations till the 2nd of January...
