  1. The retailer digital.ch has never received devices. Try ordering one, they'll arrive in at least a month. The big batch is shipping in the first full week of January, so not exactly this week, but next week.

  2. My Sidekick cases rocked. They were two piece + screen protector. They handled well with great tactile aesthetics. Angle screen was no problem. Nor was the curved bevel. I had 53 depending on my mood. They can make them the research is null. With Hello Kitty please.

  3. I generally agree, but have to take issue on a few points. Primarily, yes, there are people who won't buy anything but the latest chip, but they also tend to be young people who won't buy anything with a keyboard. (For the record, I'm 36, so I expect I'm younger than most here. I was born old.) On the battery, yes, agreed. On the bezel, yes, agreed. As for the Pro1's keyboard case competitors, well, this picture is how I see them.

  6. I find it perfectly believable. All it says is that is what they AIM to do. I AIM to lose weight, stop drinking and generally be a less cynical b*****d in 2020. The evidence of my last n decades on the planet is that this isn't going to happen either.

  8. I don't see a reasonable explanation, but this might be because their communication is awful, and a textbook example of "what not to do." There might be one, like maybe most of the IGG ones are a certain keyboard layout phones and they didn't have enough of those. I have no idea, but, again, I agree with you about the lack of (seemingly) prioritizing IGG preorders (and I'm not a IGG backer).

  9. Using two SIM cards and an SD card was never a feature of the device in the first place. Any problems that arise from your attempts to do so are entirely a result of your own actions. You're the one destroying SD cards, not the phone.

  10. Even if they did, they must keep the company alive. It may even be unfair but so is life. We all will win nothing if they are as fair as possible but don't survive. We need updates and repairs. Yeah sure it sucks, yeah you are allowed to be angry. But please stay reasonable!

  11. No. Just because they also shipped a vanishingly small number of devices to an even more vanishingly tiny number of small, but committed and therefore important retailers which had been promised to get some, long before it was clear that most orders wouldn't be fulfilled until Christmas, that doesn't mean they "gave preference" to them. The accusation is just ridiculous.

  12. Like most people on this forum, I'm a fan of phones with hardware keyboards. That's why I've co-funded the FxTec (then Livormorium) Keyboard Moto Mod IGG campaign back in 2017. The IGG campaign got postponed several times until it was cancelled altogether. Like most of the IGG supporters, the only thing I got in return to supporting the campaign financially was a promise. Promise from FxTec that I would be among the first to receive the QWERTY smartphone they plan on developing next. I have elected to take up on that promise and did not request a refund for the failed IGG campaign. When t

The gadget that receives most votes online will win People’s Choice Award. Last Gadget Standing crown will go to one of the finalist (live event winner). https://lastgadgetstanding.com/2020-faq/

  14. I also prefer flat screens and bezels. It's not a deal-killing thing, just a preference. As for the keyboard... I think it's important to remember that excellent BT keyboards are available, some of which are designed for typical smartphones and come with cases to hold both the phone and the keyboard, for ~ USD $30.00. What that means to me is that for a keyboarded phone to be successful, it should be more than a keyboarded phone. Start with the demographic who like phones with physical keyboards, which is overwhelmingly middle-aged and older people. Most youngsters laugh at phon

  16. That's pretty much what I did, as described in my earlier post in this thread: The tricky part is that they won't officially activate the Pro 1 on their network because it isn't certified by them. This was working with them in the shop. So my pro 1 has the sim from my Moto G6 and the network thinks my Pro 1 is my Moto G6 (which Verizon is fine with-- they know). It's something to do with, until they convert fully over to LTE and ditch the CDMA network, the phone has to be certified on the CDMA network still, but only certified phones are allowed. But, yes, the phone works fine as a

  20. So their size disqualifies them as retailers? Forgive me for not understanding and discussing what seems reasonable. Retailers were prioritzed over IGG backers. "First come, first served" is a basic rule of business. More so in this situation. No one has displayed any envy. Just pointing out the lack of good business practices. Which as a customer, I think is legitimate. First time companies make mistakes. It would help if they took responsibility, apologized and said this will not happen again moving forward. I love this tech. This is an opportunity for them.

  24. Not really. A 30-year old probably has been using mobile phones for at least 12 years (since 2008) and quite possibly before then. My goddaughters, who were living with me temporarily in 2008, both had phones, and they were pre-teens at the time. In December of 2008, six of the top 10 most popular phones in the United States had physical keyboards. If current 30-year-olds liked them, they might very well long for a new keyboard phone with modern hardware and capabilities. One might say they are prematurely middle-aged, at least in the mobile phone context. Also remember that generati

  26. I agree, that is why I think the focus should be on people out of school and with some typing to do. And there was never a better time for that. Smartphone market is saturated and boring. Everybody is thirsty for something new. And there were never so much people in IT like now. A lot of these people are young. This should not be forgotten! However since I wish the prawn was a bit smaller (maybe 5.5") and had a flat screen I may be a dinosaur myself. But that is another topic 😄

  28. While I agree with most thing you are missing, I can only say "ok boomer" to that statement. People around here are not as old as you think. Have a look here: And note that the poll is flawed, 40+ is by far the biggest group spanning 20 years of persons in here. So most here are between 25-30. Me included. This is a classic case of assuming without data.

Also, am I just a dumb 'Merican, or have previous people observed the similarity between your name and ANSI? Your involvement with keyboards and characters makes it that much more amusing to me. 32. There are several of us here (cough cough @Polaris) who feel that the Droid 3 was actually the best device in the line from a form and function standpoint. Unfortunately its now VERY dated specs make it not terribly useful today, but there are things from the D3 which seem to have made their way into the Pro1, and that is as it should be. I know all about Droid 4. I've been daily driving one since 2016. Happy New Year to Droid 4. Still working. :P

  38. Considering that the Pro1 has a reported battery life of well over 18 hours of pure torture @netman I plan to use a cord at night. I sleep, it sleeps, we both recharge. Even on my old tired overworked Droid 4 I can generally make it all day and charge at night. I don't foresee a use case scenario where conventional cord charging will be a problem.

  39. You can get any device that is certified as meeting the Open Development LTE requirements (which also presupposes FCC approval) activated on VZW as long as it supports the bands and VoLTE. The problem is finding someone at Verizon who knows how to do it. You may have to do it for them, which is why I think it might be easier to do it from a store than over the phone. If you're opening up a new account conditional on getting the device working, the salesman has some extra motivation. The basic process is to make sure your billing account and your network account are in sync (which one

  40. I haven't used (nor even purchased) the Pro 1; but I've used about a bazillion keyboards over the decades and never found that any of them took more than a few hours to get used to. Usually a lot less than that, truth be told. I guess part of the reason is because I was an on-site computer/network tech for a long time, so I used a lot of devices. You get pretty good at shifting gears. The old-school BB keyboard was my favorite because the smile shape and other tactile cues seemed to aid muscle memory acquisition. But I can't say that I "hated" any physical keyboard on any phone I've ever

Because this happens very randomly, and not always caught by internal team, we have asked some users to help verify if the fix work. (Many thanks to @TeZtDevice ) and the issue seems to be gone. The fix is working. However we would love to invite more users who constantly experiencing this issue to help verifying if the bug is completed fixed. Please let me know. On the 11th Dec I requested a refund, after a number repeat requests, my money was eventually refunded 14 days later - one day before the bank said they would start a recovery procedure! ...So one of you lucky people may get a phone ahead of schedule 😉 If F(x)tec survives this farce, I may see you when the product goes retail and has a hard case. 43. Okay, that was weird. Noticed this morning that my phone wasn't working. No calls, no texts, etc. It occurred to me to try what @EskeRahn suggested above, but when I went into the phone menu, I discovered all the switches had been turned off. I switched them back on and everything is fine. It's tempting to think this was some side effect of rooting, since that is the only change I have made lately. I'm not sure how (these hidden settings are stored in boot sector?), and to be clear it may be coincidence. However, I would prefer that to be the case rather than "There's this weir

  44. I think there is a deeper worry beneath this: The fear of this being the last real slider keyboard phone, perhaps forever, and not unlikely for many many years. And If so, the newer the specs at launch, the less outdated it will be in say 10 years. Many of us are replacing really old phones with the Pro1.

  45. So, an update for Google Fi: I went to try to make the APN changes suggested by Hook, but those settings were not available for the Google Fi network; the option to change APNs is simply not available for that network. So on a hunch, I decided to try making calls and sending texts. - I can make and receive calls - I can send and receive SMS texts (but they come through with extra garbage characters added to the end - I cannot receive MMS texts (pictures etc.), but I can send them That's the status as of now. 49. Who knows??? I do! It's not going to happen anytime soon, Verizon is a big bureaucracy that is consumed with policy (or what they believe to be policy). Not faulting Verizon over the other large carriers, they are all close to the same with policy nightmares, but Verizon and Sprint (here in the US) have IMEI/MEID problems (while 3G is still in play).

  50. But remember that most of us dinosaurs will not be using a forum like this. At the most read it for info, not posting (or joining a poll) so the poll at best reflects the age distribution of the active forum users, not the distribution of the pre-order costumers or target audience in general. But sure a good thing that is is not limited to dinosaurs only, as you and others might spread the word better to the non-dinosaurs than we can.
