Can we get a locked thread with updates only? I'm tired of slogging through these threads just to find updates11 points

Well the difference is, that the plane does not belong to FxTec and is also not chartered by FxTec, but FxTec sends the batch with a logistics company which does merge several parcels into the same plane. As far as I understand the Twitter it just says that the logistic company does not work over the weekend. So they have to wait for them.6 points

At this very moment a batch of phones is being shipped to the ship which will ship them to the shipping location from which the shipper will ship them to their shipping destination...at some point.4 points

Doesn't look like the weight was ever there, when we use a time machine. The info can be found in the comments of https://www.instagram.com/p/B2fAv1Nna8l/, and is indeed "around 240g".4 points

Did you all notice that on every of those advertisement posts on their official twitter some fingers are blocking the view to the keyboard cutouts? I begin to wonder if the fingers are included in the device. https://mobile.twitter.com/thefxtec/status/1191784773796147200/photo/14 points

I could have sworn I saw the weight listed on a specifications page somewhere, but I can no longer find it. I seem to remember something like 230g or 240g. Perhaps this changed after design revisions?3 points

No he said private airfreight is out of question. It still is sent by airfreight as far as we are informed!3 points

Just to add, with Magisk you can make Android behave as normally installed, and therefore can run banking apps as usual. I would rather chose Sailfish (Had both phones after N900, N9), the OS itself is really nice. But I need Android support and Sailfish was always a bit buggy for me. Therefore I will use Lineage, Magisk and a very very thin GApps layer to make most of the apps run. I try to ensure my privacy on this one. How annoying this can be to work outside of the cloud in regards of backups and time spending is experienced fairly quickly. But this time I'll mod my Android till it br3 points

Is my thought too simple to basically see it as a 3-step shipping? Factory - warehouse in EU, USA and probably Asia - custome5. Factory: production of devices, shipping in batches to the warehouses Warehouse: located in diffetent continents. Batches get sent there by air (shipping multiple devices is cheaper than single shipping to each customer around the world) and then get shipped personally to the customer Customer: The last step of shipping, ideally done as close to the warehouse as possible. While the first batch was first sent to the warehouse (fulfillm2 points

I mean, I got this Moto Z to use the keyboard mod with it... and that fell flat. Don't blame me. I should've waited, but at the same time I had an Xperia Pro which kinda had no space left to install any new apps. Got a bit painful after a while, especially when moving apps to SD means to only move a tiny part of them. Keyboard sliders met their end here earlier than in the US too. I don't think there was anything with multiple cores or LTE here unless you imported it. And well, at the point when I had an incentive to ditch the Xperia, the importable devices were also kinda old as well.2 points

Are those screen protectors we bought plastic or glass? I haven't looked at mine for a while. Note to self: Yes, you *are* going to put that screen protector on before the phone leaves the house and before you bring the phone into areas of the house that aren't carpeted.2 points

Erhmm NO, e.g.: But the cut outs are very small (less than an eight of square centimetre each), and it's actually a bit awkward holding the device using the keyboard NOT covering those... Also note that some images are older than the cut outs. On the oldest the Smiley print is on Sym not Alt. (e.g. this vs this)2 points

That matches what I get within the accuracy of my 20 year old kitchen-weight, (including SIM, sceen-protector, and a few strategically placed stickers - and for the physics nerds: fully chargedπ€ )2 points

If you want to see the kind of apps available for sfos, check out openrepos.net. I believe it has been reported that there was a way to use a xperia license to enable Android Dalvik on pro1 with some minor hack on pro1 to identify itself as sony or something. But that's obviously not officially supported by Jolla. At one point in a sfos update q&a, it was stated that it should be possible to get anbox working on community port, but dunno if that has happened...2 points

I have a Blackberry Q10, which runs Blackberry OS 10 (which is now abandoned). I have no replacement for WhatsApp, and it has indeed been a problem when I was still a student as the class exchanged important information on it. I resorted to installing an x86 version of Android on a VM on my computer, and it did the job. Having it on my phone would definitely have been better. I don't know any other mainstream app. I really wish they would update the MMS protocol so that WhatsApp became obsolete. BB OS 10 has a very nice messaging hub, so the email & phone functionalities work ver2 points

According to previous mails written to the support and probably forum posts too, the initial plan was to send out small batches consecutively. They were going to be sent with only a few days of difference. I guess that plan was cancelled and they gather up devices instead to send them out all at once in mid-november. This makes sense logistically, financially and it probably even saves time since they can focus on the production of units. Also, this decision may has a connection to the shopping event in China so no deviced get lost or extremely delayed. We must not forget2 points

There is nobody posting official Updates in this Forum at all. So what do you expect from a locked thread?2 points
-
Too many of us are having FOMO and tracking ID envy so I think we're trying to count the number of devices shipped, batch size, order number, and somehow tell our fortunes. Thus we post and crowd this thread. They should make an official thread that is locked to FXTEC just for updates. This thread can be the discussion thread. Thus no one would have to read it for an update but folks are free to discuss.2 points

It's next to me when I sit down I don't sit on it, And usually I'm not topless, so my Shirt covers the case. It should fit a bit tight, so easy pickpocketing or losing the phone when I decide to continue my walk on my hands should not be an issue. Well, sure there might be pickpocketers out there who could teach me a better lesson. But I'm confident to say that this is not my main concern2 points

As sad as it is, there are even 3 more hops in there, in reality, and that batch hasn't left yet. But to be fair, the ship is an airship, thankfully. π A modified version: At some point, a batch of phones will be shipped from the source of all these shipments, to the shipping interceptor, that ensures they are in ship shape, and then shipped to the airship, which will ship them to other shipping interceptors, that ensure they are in ship shape, and then shipped to those who will shape them to ship and ship them to the shippers, who will ship them to the shipping destinations...at some1 point

I wouldn't either. But the question isn't what we would call them. The question is what Chen is calling them. It seems he is calling FedEx the fulfillment center and now there is a warehouse concept that is what we all assumed were the "fulfillment centers" before. I take his Tweet to mean that the phones have been processed in at least one destination country and are now on their way to the shipper (what he is calling a fulfillment center), like FedEx, and once they are dropped off at FedEx (or equivalent), they will get tracking numbers.1 point
-
I wouldn't consider Fed Ex, UPS, USPS to be fulfillment centers. They handle shipping but they definitely aren't fulfillment "partners". I used to work in supply chain and usually fulfillment partners are actual warehouse companies that effectively store product until they're given and order to ship. The would then acquire a tracking ID and apply it to given order and ship the product at that time. In this case, with all the preorders, they will literally acquire product from freight and move to shipping it immediately. These fulfillment partners are all over the globe and are used a1 point

I've been interested in Sailfish since it first launched. I love innovative OS/UI design, and tend to seek out non-mainstream, power-user orientated options when it comes to software. Sailfish seems to tick a lot of boxes for me... BUT I'm hearing that the native browser is outdated and the lack of Android app support mentioned above doesn't bode well. I don't want to be stuck in the same situation as now with good but rapidly ageing software / abandonware. So LineageOS (preferably without Google services) seems like a reasonable middle ground, even though I detest Googleware. Assuming the Pro1 point

I suspect if you did 5 year intervals out to 70, you'd end up with a classic positively skewed frequency distribution with most being in the 25-30 interval and the frequency dropping off slowly with older and older people. π1 point

Seems like most of the active forum users have voted. I declare those over 40 winners! If this poll is ever repeated, could break down the old folks a bit more, and make equal sized groups... to see the real winner... i.e. 18-24, 25-31, 32-38, 39-45, 46-51, 52-58, 59+1 point

Yeah, can be hard to make groups mutually exclusive and yet covering everyone. And with a reasonably limited number of groups.... How do you count a Samsung S8- with a click on keyboard that I did not use all the time... Or what about people using BT keyboards rarely/frequently/always... I called it option 31 point

This is not actually possible with Sailfish OS on the Pro1, as I am guessing WhatsApp only provides binaries for iOS and Android. The Sailfish OS that is being talked about for the Pro1 is a community port, which does not include support for Android applications. I believe Lineage OS is something of a fork of Android with Google services-based applications removed. It should still be compatible with most Android applications, unless they specifically require an untouched Android (I've heard that some banking applications do that). The point of running Sailfish for me is that this is a Lin1 point

Starting to get concerned here... My pre-order was placed on 09MAR2019... #83xx I got my payment request email on 31JUL2019 Paid $698.54 on 01AUG2019. So, where does that place me in the queue? Some of you seem to be complaining about order numbers in the 30000 range... Just curious. My first good chance to show it off at our trade show has come and gone... I expected to have it by 01OCT2019 Lots of people in my field would love something like this for remote network management... --1 point

Can you really not set more rules? In my device you can set as many rules as you want... (LineageOS)1 point

This sounds most realistic to me. However I wonder where those "3000" orders came from. I really thought they were having around 20k orders?1 point

To be honest, no expectations haha. Having expectations for any hardware is a key to disappointment. With a background in Project management and running businesses myself, I just know its hard so I assume the worst and take any updates as happily. As long as there are some few updates here and there and their commitment is still there then I will continue onward. If they disappear or actually say they're going to not do what they committed then that is when I come back with a pitchfork. Otherwise, its just a suggestion since someone suggested a thread lock.1 point

If support is correct, then the second batch will be sent from the factory in mid-November, to the fulfillment centers, not from fulfillment centers to customers. Once people get the phones in their hands from the first batch, we can estimate how long it takes from when fxtec reports the batch leaving, until the phones arrive in customer hands. The second batch should be about that same length of time or less, than the first batch, if customs is faster with the second batch, with all other variables being equal. If they paid for faster shipping on the first batch, then that could change1 point

They had at one point stated that this is meant as a user-to-user forum. But of course that does not yet make much sense until we all have our Pro1s and can share experiences. Currently it is a 'one way street' of info...1 point
