Not really, but here it is an entry for gadget of the year 2020 competition, I say it deserves a vote! https://lastgadgetstanding.com/competitions/2020-2/entries/pro1/6 points

Based on experience, I would say that "early this week" is almost never Monday 😲3 points

Monday, sad day. Now F(x)tec said they expect the carrier with the second batch units to arrive at their UK warehouse "early this week". Today would be perfect to enlighten my Monday. Fingers crossed. :<3 points

Hi everyone, A brief, honest informal update as promised. The US/APAC shipment from the 2nd batch has now been fulfilled, and some of you should have already been contacted by your couriers to confirm your delivery date. In the meantime, the 1st US batch is still stuck somewhere in a US customs office sorting hub awaiting to be shipped back to our main warehouse in Hong Kong. Customers from the 2nd US batch will be contacted by FedEx for their customs payment, as we have now decided to ship devices directly from Hong Kong in an effort to save time and avoid further foreign importer c3 points

I live in a rural area and UPS/FedEx don't like coming out here. They often mark the package as undeliverable without ever even showing up, and tell me I need to come get it. I've argued with them, if you don't deliver here then don't take the package in the first place. But no they take the money and the package and then blame me or the shipper - they will claim that either the address was invalid or that I wasn't available, or that they couldn't get here, or the wrong class of service was used (and it cannot be changed), sometimes "weather conditions"... Very frustrating 😠 USPS is requ2 points

I'm in the US and mine is coming by FedEx. Delivery should be tomorrow EOD.2 points

I don't recall having too many stuck apps under Android (although granted I use fairly basic stuff and dont play modern games) but if I did, I'd just swipe it away from the active applist... But I'm being argumentative for no reason, cuz I think that's a great feature of LOS, even if I don't use it, that's the awesome thing about LOS is it has every Android feature ever is available. Including features often not common until the next Android version. You won't see something else someone has on their device and be like "I wish I could do that on mine", it'll be the opposite, people will2 points

If you mean Facebook, I'm not sure you'll get a real answer there either. Pretty much, you need to do the support email if you want to be assured of getting a timely and relevant answer.2 points

As I always say, THANKS to tdm for all his dedication and efforts. Again, very much appreciated! Additionally, here we have yet another reason to stop whining and complaining about F(x)tec, and, instead, be grateful they are supporting us as they are with other ROMs! Thank you F(x)tec from a customer who will only use the phone with a custom ROM! 👍👍2 points

If you really want an un-Googled version of stock, I can build that since I do have access to the sources. But personally, I highly recommend Lineage instead. It has some nice features that stock does not. You should file an issue for calls on my github. You can file the lock pattern issue with Lineage, as I dont have anything to do with that. Lineage recovery should be able to flash the su package. If not, please let me know. I could build su into the ROM, but that would upset others. FxTec has been very engaged and helpful with development. I appreciate that a great d2 points

In my country, the reputation of the local postal service is not very good. However, usually there are no problems with them, especially with higher-priced services. On the other side, UPS, FedEx or DHL have much better services (their reputation and speed are much higher). However, they are also more expensive, especially when VAT administration takes place. Additionally, VAT administration can make local postal service much slower here... So, it seems these companies have different quality of service at different regions, but I think basically they are good transfer companies..1 point

You should get a "stock Assigned" email before it ships. They are shipping in small weekly batches.1 point

True. XWayland performance seems to be much better compared to XServer XSDL on Android though, plus we have some kernel options like SystemV IPC enabled. It is also possible to start full blown Linux system in LXC container or with systemd-nspawn thanks to kernel namespaces.1 point

Can also be done on Android: https://f-droid.org/de/packages/org.dyndns.sven_ola.debian_kit/1 point

It's a setting. CM/LOS opens up lots of settings that are often not included in stock rom. For example mobile hotspot and other tethering options. Check developer options, etc, somewhere in settings. I'm too lazy to find it for you but I recall seeing it (although don't use it myself - kinda defeats the way android is supposed to work). Unrelated, I don't see a reason why we couldn't use the fxtec launcher with LOS. But I don't fully understand the way lollipop apps install and not sure if you can just copy apk's anymore (related to kitkat and earlier keeping the apk as is and1 point

Really? That would be pretty cool. Yes I've definitely appreciated some of the cool features on my LOS 14.1 Droid 4, and they look even better on the Pro1 (privacy guard, ADB over network, extended reboot menu, 5x5 pattern grid, night mode, and the new transfer speed status bar indicator is a nice touch), but running on nightlies has been a bumpy ride over the years; somewhere along the line ADB over USB stopped working, WiFi and Bluetooth can no longer co-exist, the phone reboots when I get incoming calls from contacts with custom ringtones, etc. It was a tremendous volunteer effort that e1 point

I had to give up un-Googling the stock firmware as I couldn't remove GMS without the phone locking up on boot, so I gave this a spin. Thank you for your efforts on this, and for the detailed explanations as you go :) I put the SIM in and phone calls don't sem to work, either incoming and outgoing (SMS works though). Not sure if this is expected at this stage or if I should file a bug report. Another weird issue; when I changed the pattern lock to 5x5 grid, the lock screen grid was still 3x3 so I couldn't unlock it. It fixed itself on reboot though. A few questions: - at this sta1 point

You're both missing the point. The sales tax they collected was in addition to the base price, and only collected for US orders. They are refunding that, but that isn't their money anyway, that's the states money. The post suggests we now have to pay import duty, something fxtec was going to pay for before. It's unrelated to the sales tax. They didn't imply they're going to refund us for the import duty, but if that's the case, then what I'm saying is a non-issue (although still would have been easier for the customer if fxtec had shipped it duty prepaid).1 point

Thank you so much for the consideration. I won't take donations for this project myself but please do donate to Lineage, the EFF, or your favorite open source project.1 point

That you are creating an EDL package for the rest of us to recover our bricks is simply amazing! I'm so grateful! Thank you! With friends like you, this project cannot fail!1 point

Off topic: In that link i stumbled upon fastboot oem off-mode-charge 1 That allows the Pro1 to charge while staying turned off. I do not know if there is a good reason for them to turn this feature Off by default (Or maybe it is Off by default without FxTec changing it?) Tried it On with slow charging, and from what I can see it works exactly as you would expect. Will try with fast charge when the level is sufficiently low for it to make sense. Works fine with fast charging too. ADD: When the off-mode-charge is Off, the device will automatically power up when power is appli1 point

A bit of news on MAC addrs. The OEM writes /persist/wlan_mac.bin on boot using the binary /vendor/bin/macplugin. They checked this binary into their device tree without any source, so I don't know the exact algorithm. i'm in the process of reverse engineering it. It seems to generate 02:aa:xx:xx:xx:xx where "xx" is random. The kernel driver picks this up and strips the private bit so you get 00:aa:xx:xx:xx:xx. So there you go -- each device gets a unique, random, bogus MAC address. 😄 I'll investigate BT at some point soon. I would not be surprised if that got skipped entir1 point

Quick update: I found the issue with vbmeta. Unfortunately, it looks like fixing it will take another day or two. I'm going to go ahead and (try to) switch lineage to FBE for the next build so that we can ditch FDE without looking back. I also started work on plumbing in make shift mac addrs for WiFi and BT. Neither fxtec nor the OEM seem to have valid OUI blocks assigned so I'm going to steal an unassigned block. Finally, I am in the process of building a full factory package. Once that is complete, we can have a discussion about custom partitio1 point

Understood! However... your irritation came across, but not in an overly aggressive, or violent way. More like just blowing off some steam. I think our world has become way too thin skinned, and I believe society would greatly benefit (overall) if everyone would just be a bit more relaxed, and not be offended by every little thing. I grew up in such a world and can promise you that it was a much better place (in this regard) than the way we are today. Anyway, back to devices, have I convinced you get to stop using Google Pay? 😉 If not, maybe we can drag silversolver in the discussion as1 point

In EDL mode the device waits to receive an executable signed with the correct key. The common use for this mode is to load and run a 'firehose' low-level flashing tool. If you are interested in learning more, I recommend this article from Aleph Security.1 point

You might want to delete a few numbers from your tracking number. You never know what someone can do with it... This situation kind of sucks. I was really hoping for a Christmas dlelivery. Looks like it'll be 2020...0 points

NJ, USA here. Waiting for many months, just like many others. Just saw a note about having to pay customs import fees, that doesn't sound fun and likely expensive.0 points

SteffenWi: To each their own. No worries here! If you don't want to fiddle around with copper wires, then don't. I'm very comfortable doing so as I have done much embedded work where flashing required using BDM/SWD. Also, it's worth noting that there are many other benefits to axing the A/B seemless update format (the extra 4 Gb is just part of it, and I'll gladly take it). I block OTA updates anyway as I much prefer sideloading them. Oh, and as it being the way of the future, I'll agree; however, we part company at the point where one believes that, just because some big tech company ha0 points
