Hi everyone, Mostly good news today, as always gathered personally. The logistics team is currently drafting the shipping lists for the big batch that will ship in a few days. This batch is 6x bigger than the previous batches combined. Most of you will be left very happy, and those in the list will receive a stock assignment notice either this weekend or early next week. There is nothing left to prioritise on the Indiegogo side, as that will be fully covered by this coming batch. Those with Indiegogo deals can start getting excited as they are the first known customers that will20 points

No no no. The formula is: 1. "Total orders of a country" is what percent of all orders? 2. Then, how many units does the country percentage equal to out of the current batch size? 3. = the number of units shipped to that particular country, based in order of when the payment was received. Whether it's a country with low interest or not, this formula keeps it fair for everyone. If it was only done in order of payments, the smaller countries may have to wait for a while, as not everyone was awake when we started accepting payments :). Obviously we don't count the6 points

help why did I make a pic of this: Taken with Pro1 in 2 degrees above freezing temperatures.4 points

I'm just happy that Erik is honest. He gives us exact numbers and tells us when more devices are going to be shipped. Sure I'd have liked to get my device soon and sure I could tell about my phone falling apart - it actually is. But with that kind of honesty, I can't be mad. Thank you, @Erik and FxTec for listening to us.4 points

I wanted to do my own layout for Pro1 like I had in my N900 but without root access it did not seem to be an easy way to do this. Also, it wasn't convenient to write in my language on Pro1 without having an easy access of characters with accents. ...but when I saw FinQwery and its availability on GitHub, I have decided to play with it a little bit... ...so I have used FinQuerty but modified it a tiny bit by removing every keymaps (so it only contains mine) and renamed it slightly to be able to install it without affecting original FinQwerty so it can be remain installed and updated wi3 points

I was thinking images OF and BY a Pro1 😂😁 But I got images of the dog of course Here one from his ten year birthday (a bit cropped and reduced)Let me know If I should send the original. And here one from May, where the rascal had stolen the ball thrower (also reduced)3 points

I was thinking the same thing! lol However, she said photos taken *by* the Pro1, not of the Pro1, so you only have to de-dust the world. 😉3 points

We will be changing the type of content posted across all social media platforms. Even if you don't have a Instagram account, we would still love to share your Pro1 photos through our Instagram account 🙂3 points

All of the countries that we have orders from will receive devices. The formula above is to ensure they all receive devices, even if there was 1 order from a small island country.3 points

Sorry, I didn't hit that save button fast enough after edit so you saw my older message. Thank you for clearing this up.3 points

It was to be expected that not everything would be sent out, but this is good news nonetheless. #TheClackening is happening!3 points

Thanks for the idea. I went nuts with the stuff on the back, but decided to preserve the Fxtec Logo.2 points

That case it would be better if F(x)tec may have a transparent version of the keyboard at these characters if we kindly ask them. 🙂 ...maybe...2 points

Photon Q used stickers by default, I didn't even realize until Cornholio pointed it out, they are very well done and very well adhered. It would certainly help with custom keyboard maps, for example finqwerty-us-intl on on qwertz cuz otherwise hard to remember where the non-letter keys are mapped to. It might also allow us to print 3rd level characters from us-intl on the keys to remember those symbols too. The problem I see is even if we get perfectly made stickers, putting them on straight on every single key will be a challenge and time consuming! That and the backlight issue2 points

I was thinking about how you are one of the few people in the world who could do this (without help from friends). But if you take a picture of the new Pro1 with the old, then any camera issues with the old would show up. And if you take pictures of the old, with the new, then they show something people can't order. I suppose if the old one is far enough away, people won't see the differences. Have software updates on the older units allowed the cameras to operate the same as the new one? Or.....Pro1 mirror selfie pictures! (selfies *of* the Pro1, *by* the Pro1!) Clean those m2 points

Well glad you put some work into communication. I hope it will be some more communication and not only more of these marketing post. Anyway, this is probably one of the places with the lowest percentage of Instagram user at all 😄 Might need another form of giving credits!2 points

Well when 70% are to be served, that will mean that ALL countries that has orders would be on the list. Even if only one order. With normal rounding 70% of 1 rounded would be one.2 points
-
Does this mean that people in countries where barely any people bought a device are boned even if they pre-ordered super early?2 points
-
Exciting! I am figuring I'm included in the 70% of fulfilled pre-orders. Shall the pseudo-statistical reckoning begin again? 🤣2 points

I hereby inform you that you've now earned the privilege of becoming the first name in my ignore list. Farewell, but without me.)2 points

Will it be possible to record phone calls with the Pro1? I haven't had much success with my Moto phones, and last time I looked into it I believe it was because Motorola didn't fully implement the audio API in the bundled libaudio.so file. Could someone from FxTec confirm this, or someone with a prototype try this out (*cough @EskeRahn 😀)? If you don't know of any apps for this, this is the one I use.1 point

Those things exist for cars and guide marks aren't even needed. It's the stickers with two covers, one of them being transparent to align them. But I wonder if it isn't enough to just change a handful of keys? Or are we trying to shift a non-shifted keyboard?1 point
-
Well I guess the best thing would be a transparent ark with mild adhesive on the print size (think like a large piece of writing tape) with some guide-marks, so all labels can be applied in one go, and in parallel. And then most likely one by one should be pressed firm in place by the heat of a finger. As the keys are not flat-topped, labels are not easy, but perhaps some suitable flexible material, that gets shapeable by the heat of a finger, can do the trick.1 point

I certainly hope that an order # of 52xx from the USA means I'll be within that 70% calculation...if not, something is wrong with the formula. Maybe I'll get it by my birthday since Christmas didn't happen.1 point

You just need two mirrors. Then you can take a photo of Pro¹ with a Pro¹. (2nd mirror to prevent mirror image)1 point
-
Well we could academically construct scenarios where this would not be fair. Say a country were all orders were paid yesterday, then 70% of those.... Or the opposite a country with only very early payers... Of course those are very unlikely, unless we are talking countries with extremely few orders, and if so it will affect only marginally seen from a broader perspective.1 point

"This batch is 6x bigger than the previous batches combined." "It will, however, still include 70% of all pre-orders" So 70% * (1 + 1/6) = 82% of all pre-orders covered and 18% still missing?1 point
-
Good question! Let me begin the reckoning... sounds they are trying to fulfill about 70% of each destination country?1 point
-
Nice idea. And at the least in principle it should be possible to scrape off the black on the relevant keys, so backlight could work too, if the labels had the letters transparent, and the black main part intransparent. Could be a nice and fairly inexpensive alternative to dedicated prints. On the preproduction unit the underscore was very short, and I scraped a bit to extend it, and though it could have been done with more accuracy it works.1 point

I do sympathize with your general position there, but I guess the concrete intention in this case is not so much to babysit people so they'll not get into trouble by breaking the law, but that the manufacturers themselves want to avoid a reality of many complaining users, which could be either users complaining about getting caught breaking the law with their phones while they didn't know they did, or people who complain that they were illegally recorded and the phones allow it. Which I also guess is the intention of restrictive laws in the matter – not so much trying to babysit people, b1 point

I must be very bad at explaining this LOL! I wasn't using "real" RAM to denote physical RAM; of course, it has what it has in that regard. (Has anyone ever soldered in more on a Droid 4? 🙂I was using it to denote RAM available for use without any trickery involved. A word about swapping might help here. Swapping is an old concept where the kernel takes a page of RAM, dumps it somewhere else called a swapspace, and then frees the RAM page. If/when that data is needed later, it will copy it back, often after swapping off another page to make room. It is cumbersome to the kernel and slows th1 point

That is the story of all of Europe. But big parties should not forget 80% did NOT vote for a nazist party, so going more in that direction has the chance to scare of 80% of people to the other side...1 point

It's either that, or using production devices, which we like to save for pre-orders at the minute. Right now that is the priority - we didn't want to affect the already small batch from 2 weeks ago by taking a bunch of devices to CES which will never be owned by a user.1 point
-
Hi everyone, Exciting update today. Liangchen is visiting the factory in China at the minute and he expects all of the pre-orders will be produced by the 18th of January, so in less than 5 days now. We have already produced a very significant number of pre-order devices, which are waiting for the full list to complete by the 18th. As you are all well aware by now, once the devices are all produced on the 18th, the stock will be rotated between our warehouses, so there will be, I'd say, 1 more week after complete production before you receive your tracking. Just so I don't overpromise1 point

I've always said that the curved screen was a mistake, but it may have been inevitable; my understanding is that they couldn't find a supplier for anything else since that is the current fashion trend (and yes, it is all about fashion.) I despise working in portrait. This is why I don't daily drive a pristine and perfectly-functioning PRIV I own. I still use a Droid 4 as my daily driver. I bought the PRIV to replace it, but couldn't accept the portrait keyboard. I work in landscape almost exclusively. I take the phone out of my pocket and open the keyboard almost 100% of the time unless i1 point

You do realize this also works the other way around, right? There's no proof that they weren't lies, and it practically can't be proven nor disproven since that would require in-depth internal information on the production status and such which they're very unlikely to share. The assumption in that case is that F(x)tec isn't lying, but there's proof of that for some of these individual statements. Sure there are previous situations in which they were truthful and honest, like offering refunds when the keyboard mod crowdfund didn't go according to plan, but that's not proof that these individua1 point

This fallacy again huh. I already did, what's your point? That apparently it's okay to slip dates by half a year? That delays are bound to happen? That communication like this is the only way things can go? Getting real tired of this. And that means this time you're guaranteed to get it? This is a startup, and there are risks involved. It's absolutely possible that they'll not deliver all devices, though I hope F(x)tec will prosper obviously. It's not a "hoax", that would imply they planned to never deliver and just run with the money. They've already delivered (a small number1 point

Screenshot Assistant is an awesome little replacement for your google assistant shortcut if you're not using the google assistant: https://f-droid.org/en/packages/de.beatbrot.screenshotassistant/ It lets you quickly take a screenshot, crop it, draw a little, and share it directly to an app without having to save a file and open it in something else. It's free and open source.1 point
