  3. The positive: - Build quality is good - Screen mechanism is good and solid, does not move when opened or closed - The device is a very reasonable weight, and not much thicker than my note 9 - I was initially worried that the sound quality would be bad however it's really good enough The negative (just nitpicking): - Camera seems to lag at night time, compared to my note 9 which doesn't. During the day however it seems fine - The power button is very sensitive, and I've pressed it a few times by accident just picking the device up or holding it portrait - The screen

  5. UPDATE: Link to my comment with working root access for anyone who's looking for a quick answer: I got my device yesterday delivered by UPS. I'm very happy with it, the only thing I don't know how to do is get root access. Has someone got root access working in the stock software?

  8. I think it is very easy to put a conclusion such as "amateur" or "unprofessional" to anything doesn't meet expectations. From restaurant failed to cook a meal meets customers specific taste to train did not come in time. Anything can be unprofessional if it happens. But in reality we all know life doesn't always go as expected, there is no simple definition of professionalism but many many small factors. A simple conclusion like this can't take into account of every aspect but only show the original PoV over simplifies this world. But nonetheless I take the criticism. We probably in

  10. Thanks, the .com address worked (I had copied the .co.uk address from a posting somewhere in this forum, so I though it would be legit)! I got an answer in less than 20 minutes, which is exceptionally fast. (I don't think I can share what they wrote, but it was nothing earth-shattering anyway.)

  12. Pro1 came in the mail, man what a device! Really need to get used to it. Guess i'll keep using my N900 for writing stuff though. EDIT: Why would I keep using my N900 for writing stuff? osso-notes is perfect, plus I don't want Google to know about the weird (and wonderful) shit I write.

  13. Also, they are definitively not amateurs if we are speaking about engineering (electrical, mechanical, etc...) If they would be amateurs then they could not build up a complete phone from scratch which meets regulations, works reliably and looks robust... Maybe if we are speaking about marketing and logistics, then they were somewhat amateurs, but this is not the most important aspect and also should not make them automatically amateur in a global term. ...and as of now, they are going to be experienced in logistics and maybe also in marketing... so at last, they will be professional

  15. There is a twrp build for Pro1 by Sean MccReary. The info is currently in the SailfishOS thread, but for better visibility I think it deserves it's own thread. TWRP 3.3.1 for Pro1: Download here

  17. Just an idea, but has it been considered to set up a bug tracking system such as bugzilla or alike for these kind of things?
    3 points
  18. FYI: I didn't get my delivery today. My UPS tracking info says that the address information was incomplete. Upon calling their hotline it turned out that while FxTec had sent me an email that included the company name and address, what they had put on the parcel didn't include the company name. So if any of you decided to be clever and let it be delivered to where you work, contact UPS or FxTec so that one of them can correct/check the information that was entered. (Also the UPS website is horrible, just so that's said. Their telephone robot is top though.).

  23. My experience was also that it is decent inner hardware but sloppy workmanship and horrible software. It is a few yeas back (Ip6- with Ios 8 and 9) but it was appalling that even the most basic stuff was at the bug-level my old StarTac were at... see this The iJail you get in is both the worst and the best of Ios. Allowing people to do nothing has the positive effect of reducing the risk of accidents. A bit like if you never leave your house, you are highly unlikely to be run down by a car. Not a trade-off to my liking though. But for some it could be. That their greed is felt

  24. I'm right there with you. My seasoned Xperia work phone developed battery and touch screen faults. The replacement they've given me is an iPhone. 😐 I mean I recognise that the hardware is pretty decent. It has some slickness and nice touches, but a lot of the time it's so annoying I want to throw it. Basically it works fine, so long as you only want to do what Apple want you to do, and in the way they want you to do it. There are so many things I've taken for granted in Android that iOS just doesn't let you do. It feels like "my first smartphone" more than anything else.

  25. The batch size will increase (quite rapidly) and we aim to deliver to everyone under batch 3. The reason of starting from smaller but gradually to much bigger production batch is purely on manufacturing perspective. As we are all aware of this product is much more complicated in production than almost any of the general smartphones nowadays. We have encountered about twice of the procedures than producing a normal phone. In general each production step/procedure has a successful rate. Before the production we could only estimate the rate and do the work carefully in order to mi

  28. For most of the time I was using slider smartphones: The first was a Vodafone branded HTC Wizard 110, the second a Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, also designed and made by HTC, both running "Windows Mobile", an abomination of a mobile OS which could only be used with a small stylus that accompanied both handsets. Except for the keys which weren't too durable, I really liked the early Xperia's hardware, though, and sometimes I wish we could still get smartphones with such compact dimensions. The first HTC Desire Z, after the keyboard more and more gave out, was replaced with a second

  29. I'm fine! I have no reason to think not to get my device soon. If there is a problem I'm willing to wait much longer. Patience is the key here.

  30. Isn't this an accurate definition of a term "startup"? 😉 Please, be patient. I'm waiting for QWERTY slider for more than 2.5 years (I'm in a first hundred of IGG backers), I'm live in not rich country (so Pro1's price is not something cheap for me) and I'm still not blaming or swearing anyone =)

  32. I didn't receive a mail either (order placed in end of september). Normally, you get forwarded to a page with payment information. If you close that page, you won't see the information ever again. The support is the right way to go here, but it would be a good idea to send an E-Mail or to provide the payment information in the order section of the website.

  33. You will receive the information about direct bank transfer via E-Mail. Please check your spam folder. Otherwise send an email to [email protected] with your order number, to receive the payment infos in less than 24 hours.

  35. Also, batches may be in terms of shipping lots, not manufacturing. They peeled off a small shipping batch to make sure the logistics could be worked out, but the factory might be producing a a fairly steady pace. Again, I don't know anything for sure, but there is a lot of room for interpretation here.

  36. Why do we need to repeat the same arguments over and over again? Yes, the early payment was a mistake and yes, the devices should have been shipped earlier or information should have been provided. But come on! First devices are delivering and more are to come. Also, Liangchen (Waxberry) is providing almost daily updates. Don't focus on the past when the future is that bright.

  37. Wow this phone really is the dogs bollocks. Can't wait for some indepth independent reviews to kick in :) I sure hope tech sites/influencers have ordered theirs in the first batch :)

  38. In all fairness it should be said that when we made the pre-orders back in the spring, a text on the pre-order page said that payment would only be requested 2-3 weeks before shipping. BUT this was clearly changed BEFORE we were requested to pay, with the ETA of september. But of course in theory some might have paid remembering the original text only...

  40. We are aware of the demand of Scandic-QWERTY layout. We will try to make it happen after current orders been fulfilled first. The procedure will be: Design layout - finish design file (for printing) - Calibrate printing, make sure letters are at the same position and position mark assigned on F and J correctly - Test printing - Production - Creating another SKU at factory - Onward logistics We could start with finalising the layout design first.

  41. It didn't happen to me often, but now that you mention it I remember that it failed once or twice when I needed it really badly – like driving by Google Maps on a hot day searching a location in Berlin for which I was already late (where I don't know my way around, I am not a Berliner) :-D

  42. Suggestion. There are some sub forums already. For people reporting phone bugs, they should just start a new thread in the bugs sub-forume. Chen's existing thread could just be a list of known bugs, with links to their discussion threads...
