Ok, here are my first Impressions from Sailfish (Alpha state) on Pro1: The Porting-Team did a great job so far!!! Anyway it's still Alpha and you can feel that still on some missing features and some rough edges. I always used official Sailfish devices in the past, so this is my first community port. Boot time is the first thing which is something which made me somewhat nervous on the install process. The first boot takes ages but also the following ones take more than 3 times longer than that on my XperiaX. SIM Card is detected and I can make phone calls. But I can't access15 points

Here are more pictures. - the sleeve is a little bit wider and taller as the phone. It's not easy to put the the phone in it and out. Therefore, it definitely doesn't fall out by itself! - the protector fits really good to the screen -> full screen incl. edges (please ignore the bubbles 😂)8 points

Nobody will give it to us here, no matter how many new threads we open. If there is some OFFICIAL info, You'll get it per mail or in a separate, closed sticky thread on the top of the forum. If You want to say what's on Your mind, go on, there's already a thread or two (or five) where people do that - feel free to do that there as well. But we don't need another threads with questions as "when will mine arrive?" or "thank You FxTec, I love You!" or whatever else have there been. As EskeRahn asked us to, let's KEEP THE FORUM CLEAN.5 points

I remember a program manager at Siemens explaining in a meeting that the model numbering followed the Mercedes model, so there were C-class, M-class and S-class models. I asked if we should make an A class model with a rounded base so it would keep falling over - but it didn't get a laugh. (This was at the time of the gutter press trying to whip up a storm about the new A-Class Merc failing the 'elk avoidance' swerve test. Then at some later point, the A class phones appeared - with very rounded base3 points

If somebody has problems with understanding why a small company takes so long to develop and ship a product for the first time, this may help you. For me it really helped understand the numerous difficulties and you get a lot of details that companies couldn't give you. PS: I don't know why it embeds or how I prevent that. Sorry!2 points

That's weird, but hopefully more up to date sources can be used in the future. I'd be interested to see a UbuntuTouch port for the Pro1 so thank you for at least trying!2 points

So I started setting my machine up to compile UbuntuTouch for Pro1, but I'm now stuck at the step where I need to get source files for the Pro1. The thing that I just read, before I seem to have skipped the version number, is that you need the sourcefiles for LineageOS 14.1 which would be Android 7. Not Android 9 / Lineage OS 17. That doesn't seem really...secure? https://docs.halium.org/en/latest/porting/get-sources.html2 points

Lmfao, well I had like the chunky Nokia, a flip phone Kyocera, LG Rumor (keyboard), LG Tritan (keyboard), Blackberry Tour, Samsun Galaxy 3, Iphone 6&7....hmm I feel like there’s more but that’s all I can remember right now. I can not WAIT for Pro1! Never had a smart phone with a keyboard. I don’t understand why there isn’t more selection with phones these days! They are all just full touch screen phones, it’s weird. It’s like they give the illusion of choice but the phones nowadays are all the same.2 points

Thanks, was unaware, They are available out there though, e.g. this BUT this particular one is not really suited, as it with 10.4mm would go below the bottom of the Pro1, so you would have to have the Pro1 in a thick case, or to place it on something lifting the bottom about 3mm. (I know that the round simple charge magnetic plugs, does NOT work well without a case, as the USB-C plug is mounted fairly deep near the base)2 points

I've always worked in places where you needed to get a shell terminal for all work including email. Join the BBC Jan 1998 get my phone number and work provided phones: Nokia 5110 (original Mars bar phone), Nokia9000 (telnet/FTP/web 9600 8n1 serial support all for on-call support), 9110 (amazing form factor compared to the 9000), 9210 (colour symbian felt like a step back from the 9110), 9500 (camera, Wi-Fi, significantly better than the 9210), 9300i (significantly smaller than the 9500, but no camera & not as good battery life, but overall an amazing phone), E90 (or consumer/lame, ve2 points

I went back to my very first one in 2003. We're all friends here. Reveal your deep dark technology secrets LOL. Unrelatedly, I'm seeing no crApple products so far. We're all too savvy to buy their junk, apparently. :P2 points

Many more! People want updates and answers. We are past mid-November so we want a new estimate now that the old one is behind us. I don't think that's unusual or unexpected.2 points

Hi, I'm wanting to buy a Pro1. Is there a hook for a wrist strap (wiimote type wrist strap, etc) somewhere on the phone?1 point

Upon seeing the topic title, before reading the request, I just imagined a bracelet connected to a case, using the Pro1 as a HUGE smartwatch. Another gadget to find. Kinda like the cyborg-style idea.. 🙂1 point

My history looks like this Motorola GSM candy bar thing (you could use AA batteries in an emergency) Motorola StarTac Sony Ericsson P800 Nokia 9500 (my favourite) Htc TyTn Htc Touch (the one with just a phone keypad) Nokia N900 Nexus S Nexus 4 Lumia 520 Lumia 640 Nokia 5.1 plus (emergency buy as the Lumia died before fxtec could ship) Think thats all of them although I can't feeling I've missed one or two (probably an XDA and an Android)1 point

I was very close a few times, but decided to stay pessimistic and await having the Moto Mod in my hands. I'm glad today that I was. I bet we IGG backers were among the only ones that wanted to buy a phone for a Mod, and not a Mod for a phone.... 😇1 point

It seems that there are a few people here who bought a Moto Z variant just because of the keyboard mod 🙂1 point

As Far as i know there are no magnetic usb c adapters available that can output. these magnetic adapters mostly charge but Ive seen one or two that can transfer data, but no output option.1 point

Also, I intensely disagree with the decision to pull all the archived builds for legacy devices. I still use my D4 as a daily driver, still play with some D1s, and am very annoyed that I cannot get the CM/LOS ROMs for them anymore. I still have some local copies, but anyone who is just now thinking of playing with them is just out of luck unless they have a friend who still has copies. Storage is cheap; why not keep legacy ROMs forever as curiosities? For certain things, some of the very old devices are still excellent. There's no better device I know of for emulation than the D1, for example,1 point

Whenever anyone raises these concerns about security, there are always folks who chime in to say they don't mind the risks, and that is perfectly fine and understandable, and maybe it is a reasonable position to take if you don't put sensitive things on your phone, but I for one care about security and privacy and you need a strong foundation to build these things on. Encryption only covers user data, not the system files, and as I mentioned above, there are attacks which may be able to extract keys from a device with an unlocked bootloader. Most Android users are using PINs / patterns or1 point

Just some thoughts... I have worked with an ARM board for a project. The board was only a few months old so practically there were no downloadable uSD images which works instantly and also not even for the OS I wanted to put on - but there were some instructions. I have compiled uboot and put an OS to the card. It worked well on one of my boards, but was rhapsodical on the other. On that board it usually booted up the second time... or third time... but then it worked well. I have looked into the source code of uboot and found the problem when it does not boot is that it can not re1 point

Wouldn't simple encryption stop any sort of attack that you could achieve via an unlocked bootloader? You can't change the ROM to something similar but with added software if you can't de-encrypt the current ROM. Best you can do is change it to something similar, but that should be noticed. I don't get how it's an issue.1 point

I think more likely if a "bad guy" got ahold of my pro1, they'd be more likely to steal it, than install malware on it. I've always kept my smartphones unlocked, didn't even know there was any risk involved. And now that I know there is, I'm willing to take that risk. It's like that write protect jumper on some pc motherboards for bios; first time I remove it to flash bios, I never bother putting it back, and I'd imagine that's riskier than not relocking android bootloader.1 point

LOL....truth be told, my Droid 4 can do all of that, but it's just feeling so reluctant these days....I've dragged it kicking and screaming into 2019 with a custom ROM from LineageOS, but am definitely looking forward to my Pro1. Also, for reasons I don't fully understand, I got the PRIV back out, and am using it to post this......I remember why I put it away LOL. It's better equipped, but less usable. I just don't like portrait.1 point

Me too! I wanna be able to shitpost the forum like this from my phone :D. And SSH into my computer, and edit code, and chat to people, and search the web, and take notes, and make photos with an actual 2 stage shutter button, and play emulator games, and write emails... It is gonna be so awesome 🙂!1 point

HAHA! It's difficult to be consistent. Mega respect for making the effort. :) I highly recommend not using this feature on any device ever, for the reasons we've already discussed. But, c'est la vie. I also highly recommend being patient with the wonderful people at F(x)tec while they iron out these little tiny bugs. I'm sure no one bought the Pro1 specifically to use Google Pay. Keep your old phone in your pocket for that for a minute. LOL!1 point

Thanks, yes. But I did not want to merge them as they are very old, and I guess people want some more recent stuff. I closed the old thread and added a pointer to this one 🙂1 point

Please take this gently, as it's meant, but.......stop acting like you're starving to death because the food wagon hasn't been able to make it through the snowy mountain pass because a mule broke its leg and there was an avalanche, and your isolated 19th-century town in the mountains ran out of food weeks ago. This is a super-awesome device, but it's not like there aren't other things we can use in the meantime. I'm as excited as everyone else, but things happen. I'd rather they get it right than get it rushed. Delays happened, but it's in production, and it's looking like everyone who has ord1 point

I don't use Google Pay either due to privacy reasons, but your argument is still wrong. It doesn't matter what smartphones were created for, it's the question what they are used for. And if people are used to watching the latest dog pictures in some internet forum (cough cough), then their criticism would be absolutely valid, if they couldn't do that with the Pro1. NFC payments have been part of smartphones a while ago and for many people have become a selling point nowadays. Just because you don't use it, doesn't mean that an advertised function can be missing or not working. A1 point
