Exactly THIS. I'm not an IT person or even a power user, but back then if you were willing to pay attention, learn, talk to people and do due diligence, you could come to know exactly what everything on your computer (or PDA) was doing and how to troubleshoot, tweak or optimize it. You could also find great tools to make changes. These days, I can't keep up and so much has become magic. I don't like magic because you are usually not in control. 😉

Unfortuntely they have not provided a way to customize things. But they can be overruled. See e.g. FinQWERTY, so whatever he is dong, others could do too... I know he is CONSIDERING an improved US QWERTY, so maybe it is just a matter of waiting - or of enough people giving him a wish and a donation. That emulator is great. I remember playing Age of Empires with Win 95 on my Droid 4. It was very slow, but a lot of fun. Also, it reminded me to my youth, when I got my first laptop and played AoE while driving home. Oh, the good old times.

And those tasks you suggest can be accomplished just fine with Android 9, surprisingly enough, until Android 10 is released as an update, at which time you'll probably wonder why you cared because you'll still be able to accomplish the same tasks.

There are a lot of technical discussions going on in the forums but don't let that scare you they are just advanced usage scenarios. For what you want the device for it would be like buying any new phone just switch on and use as usual.

Lotta simple games on Play store won't go landscape. I have found one built-in solution if you want to force landscape on such apps... put them splitscreen. Obviously not ideal as it makes them small, but does work... Also, in regular settings, setting font small and display small and playing with dpi, you can get a lot more on the screen than default.

Yes, it is even printed on the keyboard, not sure how anyone can miss it.... YellowArrow+L on qwerty. What is odd and confusing is that the symbols we are used to have with Shift and digit keys, in their take require us to use YellowArrow instead. But it is a plain text-layout-file issue that is easily fixed (It is fixed for the Scandinavian languages with FinQWERTY for Pro1 handling both modifiers) so I guess they will get around to it, or someone will offer a fix an improvement.

It supports landscape, and keyboard navigation just fine, entering/closing folders with Enter and swapping sides with Tab, BS (not Del) gives a Delete dialogue. There might be other keyboard integration too. Some of the text is EXTREMELY small though. The whole word "Donate" in the centre is just 3mm wide!! So not an app for the weak sighted...

You have to disable all keyboard layouts and leave it set to default. Then slant arrow with P & L get you / & ?.

I'm using Ting, which is an MVNO on T-Mobile. I put the SIM in, got a text message saying they were downloading new settings, and then shortly later everything worked. I turned WIFI off and was able to get a 4G connection. I have not done extensive testing, but everything (SMS, MMS, phone, data) seems to work.

Did you try activating the sim in another device first (for Verizon)?

@kashif, @Hamradio Well, I can only tell you what the support wrote me. I also don't expect the device to ship by then (order number counts in my case since I ordered in september). But I could imagine that they want to finish one type of device (the qwertz version has less orders) to accelerate the entire production process. We will see what happens and I have no problem to wait until next year, although I'm open for surprises. Good luck for you two to receive the device soon.

I guess asking for spontaneous updates when delays happen does not help. Let's do this instead. Dear F(x)tec, please never inform us of delays when they occur. We greatly appreciate being left in the dark until someone starts a rumor about a potential delay and we don't get confirmation for days, after which it is all like the new ETA was what was announced all along.

Yeah it is horrible, the outsourcing of work into captchas is becoming more and more aggressive. Mine was even worse:
