Sorry that the phone didn't work out for you. Certainly there are different ideas about what hardware looks and functions best. But I must admit the software is currently a weak spot. I'm going to respond to the software issues. Please keep in mind that I am not employed by FxTec, I'm just a developer who was given a device to get LineageOS running on it. Further, I'm not really a "keyboard phone" type, this is my first keyboard phone (but my wife used to love her Relay 4G, which is why I was the Cyanogen dev for that device for a while). I have gotten to know Chen and a few other8 points

Sorry, couldn't resist the thread title. π I posted this in the protective cases thread, but this isn't really about directly protecting the Pro1 but increasing the grip on the back of the Pro 1 which is quite slippery. I don't like putting cases on my phones (a bumper might be nice), but even if you are using a pouch or a case, if you ever use the phone outside the case, this could be relevant. I love how the naked Pro 1 feels in my hands, but I worried about the slickness of the back, especially when drawing it out of my pocket. A number of folks have used different non-case sol3 points

Not dismissing your frustration or criticizing your venting (we're here for you, pal), but for anyone new and curious about the Pro 1, this is NOT my experience with my Pro 1. π I'm impressed. I'm not sure I could (strength-wise) rip my Pro 1 in two, though I won't make the experiment.3 points

Yup, worked out the same for me. Lol. Alex must be wondering about these stickerorders. π2 points

I just received and paid the PayPal invoice for this special ebay order. It came out to $16.05, plus the original $9.99 for the service. So $26.04 total for 1600 stickers, which should last me a while, if I don't lose them and if they work for this application. Here is the breakdown, in British pounds:2 points

Mr Laska's right. His workaround solves cracking sound issues. The Magisk module is available from Magisk Manager - it's name is "Audio Compatibility Patch". I run it with LineageOS, also with Viper4Android 2.7 (installed as Magisk module, but not available from Magisk Manager). Installer demanded also "Audio Modification Library" module for multiple patches to work together. As I found somewhere on the internet, the issue is caused by too small audio buffer - crackles happen on buffer underruns.2 points

Honestly, i'm tempted to give my device off to some engineer to design a case in CAD which can then be 3D printed at will using a nice rubbery material. A proper fitting case is a custom made solution.2 points

What you described is what I felt with the Gemini from planet computer. I was seleval time very close to make it fly. Anyway thanks a lot for sharing your experience, all voices count. I'm a bit sorry for you about the value you lost.2 points

I figured, for the extra 81 cents, I would get the extra stickers, since I would be paying 10 times the price with the service fee and shipping fees. π I'll be prepared, in case I find a crate of Pro1s on the side of the road. Or I open a repair business. Or if they fall off often. Or if it takes me hundreds of attempts to cut the non-circular ones at the corners of the keyboards.2 points

Mine is fine apart from the typical rattle (though that's honestly not something I notice when handling the phone normally). Not flush with the case and both sides of the rocker have the same clicky feedback. Does a fine job and can be pressed down anywhere except the exact middle of it.2 points

I ordered the "good" stickers (black, matte, vinyl) from the UK eBay, through a service that buys things on ebay within the UK and the ships them to the USA.2 points

I am using Gcam 6.2 port for PocoPhone F1. Image quality is great but viewfinder is upside down in Night Sight mode and the viewfinder can freeze some times in low light situations. However, you are able to take pics just fine. - https://forum.xda-developers.com/poco-f1/themes/port-modded-google-camera-hdr-night-t3910336 BSG port is another option since viewfinder is not upside down in Night Sight mode. However, it has some issues with noise level. BSG port PocoPhone port2 points

Heck no. As someone who dealt with the Priv for four years and enjoyed all of the quirks that come with that phone as well as stupid stuff like spotty Bluetooth connections and a barely functional headphone jack, the Pro1 is a much better phone in every way.2 points
-
It's not clear, but if you want an official answer, you need to email infor@fxtec.com. Before the phone came out they projected security updates would come within 90 days of being released. Since we currently have the September update, that clearly hasn't happened. I would expect the upcoming OTA from IdeaLTE (their software developer) to bring us more up to date, but it too has been delayed by the Coronavirus. I hope not much longer. This may all go much smoother once they are caught up and phones are in general availability. Again, none of this is official, just guesses.2 points

Please file an issue on the tracker and I'll look at it probably Monday. I'm already in the lights code with the keyboard backlight.2 points

Never had a Priv but I can tell you my Pro is awesome. Does not overheat or reboots. Battery is solid too. If you don't mind potentially waiting 3 months to get yours just go order now.2 points

It seems to be not an easy thing as if somebody would like to buy a new phone then it should be intact. If you use the device for days then send it back, there is high chance it will not be intact and the next buyer may receive a device which is not really new. So it is much better if you may meet with somebody around to see the device...2 points

I can not see the logic in that. It is clearly much more a nice-to-have than need-to-have feature, so obviously it would not be at the top of the stack of issues for fixing. That some reports random reboots is one of the much more important things to handle. But that does not mean that we in anyway can conclude whether or not it will be handled once the more grave issues have been handled. I like @SchattengestaIt find it likely that it will be handled, but of course there are no guarantees here, unless officially stated.1 point

Workarounds for most of the issues are documented here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15uE12Yv5nMvIF42U33cY5FQoF6M66QIn00cC876uf7Y/edit#gid=01 point

OP, I feel your pain. I already dropped the device from my hands (damn slippery metal) onto cement and now the back is marred up. This is one device where a case would reduce not only the slipperiness, but stop the stupid curved screen touches. Doubly so, the app EdgeNull is a GOD SEND for stopping the accidental touches. I set the pixel width to 58 for both landscape and portrait. This is a perfect mix that blocks touches and above all still allows you to hit burger menu icons for various apps. Also, for some reason my Wifi connection to my home router is utter shit.1 point

It's a known bug in the keyboard driver. Certain keys are "dead" at reboot until you press any other key. I have not heard whether there are plans for a fix soon. But it's already fixed in Lineage.1 point
-
OP, your issues are real imo, but many will be fixed soon in software. And others worked around, but takes effort and patience. But ripping it in half? You coulda sold it. In fact you can probably still sell it, although now you wont get nearly as much as when it just had broken screen.1 point

I did a buy-it-now from here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/UK-GB-Parcel-Package-Forwarding-Shopping-Assistance-Service-Personal-Shopper/182997047405 In the notes for the seller, I put: I haven't received my invoice from them yet, but it is the weekend. I ordered some screen ribbon cables for my Relay 4G phone a few months ago through them, and I did receive them. Same situation, where they were not available in the USA, and the seller would not ship to the USA. The company does seem to ship to other countries too.1 point

I have this same effect on my unit. It has been there since I got the device last month. During first day, I installed all updates (including January) but issue is still there. Maybe I should try to flash factory firmware and check if reflashing does something.1 point
-
I can't find the source, but I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that that wasn't the case here, but I don't remember the specifics of why. In the back of my mind, something about not having the setup for remote access to servers. My guess would be security protocols (Intellectual property security) not being implemented for remote access, but I don't know. Anyway, for whatever reason, IdeaLTE has been out of action as well as the factories.1 point

I'm able to set a default app-- that is, after I selected always for my gallery app, tapping any photo in my file manager launched the photo in the gallery app without asking again. You are right, photo app doesn't appear in the list of default apps, but if you go to my photo app under settings app, it is listed as the photo app that opens by default and I can revoke the default status there.1 point

This feature will come back. They disabled it due to a bug causing the touchscreen to not recognize input anymore. But once they solved that, it will come back for sure.1 point

I already replied on the other thread, but what I can add is this: no overheating, no reboots unless I want to, screen is cheaply replaced if broken, the PRIV used to tilt weirdly when keyboard was open. The pro1 is a bit heavy and IMO the screen is not as good (but cheap to replace). Haven't used the fingerprint device, but it's not well-placed on the pro1. Everything else is nice and IMO better than the PRIV, though I did install the Blackberry Inbox tool, that let's me organize everything in one app.1 point
-
I have used the PRIV too and the only really bad thing about was that it lost support quickly - hence stuck on Android 7 or 8. Also no custom roms and bad for RDP. Since I am currently using the Pro1, I feel like it is better at just about everything.1 point

No autofocus, no shutter sound, and whoever came up with the idea of swiping to open the camaera settings should be thrown into that W918 while it's spinning at max RPM lynched. At least Open Camera seems to be sane compared to Snapdragon Camera, i'll try to catch the rinses of that W918 later tonight. Also, side note: the Pro1's camera is really, really sensitive to PWM dimming of LED lighting, as you can see.1 point

The Netherlands, Hillegom (near Amsterdam) Not having to use a touchscreen anymore, and the fact it resembles the nokia E7 (which has been my favorite phone ever, but after my third one died and Microsoft took over, I was done) I was sold.1 point

Iβm probably a minority here, but I prefer the stock camera over GCam, and even over the latest iPhone in some situations. GCam oversaturates the image and iPhone smoothing some details. In case of stock camera, you can post process the image the way you like it.1 point

Main issue with the camera seems to be that the lens they used is quite bad. Lots of distortion. Test taking a picture of a calibration pattern. Sharp in the middle but quite blurry and distorted at the edges. Sure this can be compensated for to some extent by software, but a good sensor isn't worth much if the optics in front of it are bad.1 point
-
While it should be noted that it shouldn't be abused as a free trial, especially as all the credit card transactions won't be free for Fx, let alone them getting a not-new device back, you do have a 14-day return window. Just handle it with care and you can return it close to original condition if you are unhappy with it.1 point
-
My friend did not even notice it until I have asked him about it - since then he does... Anyway, he has even repaired CRT televisions earlier and he was able to set colour temperature correctly even without additional instruments, so he can look at it with his own "calibration glasses" (-:1 point

You know you can do shortcuts using the following app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.github.sds100.keymapper Also worth noting the following keyboard layout mods provides you a bunch of shortcuts to default apps:1 point

I didn't need to do that. Works just fine without Nova it seems. Thanks to you @FlyingAntero I have a functional smart case for my Pro1 π Now I just need to sort out the wake up part.1 point

If you want to unlock with fingerprint you need to use Screen Off - Unlock with fingerprint app. Screen Off and Lock does not support that. Also, you can't just select Screen Off - Unlock with fingerprint from Keyboard/Button Mapper. You need to install Nova Launcher and use Nova actions as an activity. Select Screen Off .MainActivity. You can still use stock launcher as a default launcher. I tested this and I am able to lock with magnet and unlock with fingerprint like normally.1 point

This is one of the "other issues" that I mentioned in my earlier post. The vendor data and framework data get out of sync under certain conditions, for example when you wipe data (aka. factory reset). This is a problem because the vendor data only seems able to hold 5 fingerprints and doesn't seem to ever delete its data. So once you have registered 5 fingerprints total, any further fingerprints registered will not be saved in the vendor data until the vendor data in /persist is deleted (this is why it works until you reboot). Deleting the vendor data in /persist requires root acce1 point

Restart the phone - it works for me. π Without joke - it forgets all of my fingerprints if I restart the phone. I had only one time it remained set whe I have rebooted the phone several times to test something.1 point

@EskeRahn and @Slion, I tested my phone with magnet and I was able to lock via the hall-probe sensor. I used Keyboard/Button Mapper and Screen Off and Lock apps. Mapper detect when I remove the magnet but I don't know which action could wake up the screen.1 point

I think I found a workaround for this issue. First you have to install this Magisk module: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-universal-deepbuffer-remover-t3577067 Then place script from Viper4Android (you don't have to install Viper) in your service.d folder. You can find mentioned script in attachment. v4afx.sh1 point
