I've tried the Cosmo with thumbs briefly (with a Pro1 side by side) and at least for my opinion it pales in comparison to Pro1 at that, it's however usable with thumbs if you need to but the keyboard is pretty wide and the keys like to topple over rather than getting pressed if you don't hit them dead center. Also did not like that there are no nubs on the F and J key. If I understand it the Astro will have the same (or virtually the same) keyboard. On the flip side typing with all 10 fingers on Pro1 isn't what I'd call ideal so if that's what you want from a device... I even did a typing spee5 points

I'm all for it. Any company that is willing to develop smartphones with QWERTY keyboards gets my support (not necessarily financially). Not too sure about the name though. It's only one letter away from https://astroglide.com/products3 points

I definitely like what I see there. Planet surely can be considered a both dedicated and experienced hardware designer at this point, and the sliding mechanism looks both innovative and potentially solid to me. I suspect it will become less ergonomic than the Pro¹'s, though, because the screen part has to be pushed across the device's whole width of 76.6 mm before it drops behind the keyboard and tilts up, and the actors using it in the video (I like the bloke's hairdo!) try but cannot hide the fact that they need quite an effort there and still don't look perfectly comfortable at it. I am not convinced because I want to type with my thumbs :P. It's a cool device though and seems like a step up from cosmo.3 points

Here goes nothing... https://www.dropbox.com/sh/hffh8qtsljmfa7x/AAAu0ozxcIQ--kZY31nZmA_Ya?dl=0 All photos by me, and I may add more if time permits. That is, if I have anything else that crops okay in portrait and landscape.3 points

I would buy a phone from them if Pro1 would not exists and in the future, I would like to have a Pro2 instead of Astro slide. I like the idea of having vertical slider phones available but I find Pro1's solution to be much better.2 points

If you scroll waay down on their indiegogo page for it there's some more detail about the mechanism. Can't say it totally inspires confidence in me but it does seem possible. Edit: not as easy to find as i thought, the first video before the pic that says "DAY | NIGHT".2 points

Titanium does not work with the packaging method they use for the Disney Plus app. Swift Backup and some other apps do work with the new format. You can also install it outside the play store by downloading the file and using a special installer. It is not an apk file, so you can't just open it with android or a file browser and install it the way we always have. I downloaded it from the Apk pure site and then used their apk pure app to install it. I then removed the apk pure app, as it is full of ads and gave me a lot of hesitation having it on the phones I was installing it on.2 points

I was going to drop the subject, but here we go again....one thing that I find completely and utterly disgusting is that in all of the news discussion, and all of the chatter everywhere, I had heard exactly NOTHING about wellness or nutrition, and how it can help people be better prepared to fight pathogens, until @Stucadoor2 mentioned it. NOBODY has said to take vitamins, C or otherwise. NOBODY has said to eat fresh vegetables and quality meats, both of which help the immune system. NOBODY has said to lay off alcohol or sugar, even though those are immunosuppressive. Nobody has suggested exer2 points

I have the Cosmo communicator but it's not comparable with the Pro1. However in my inbox this morning is: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2020/03/30/planet_computers_astro_slide/ This actually could give the Pro1 a run for its money! WDYT?1 point

Enjoying the phone very much just one last quirk that I hope gets addressed in the future: I noticed that the rear camera audio is very weak, I can barely hear anything in recorded videos and video chats people can barely hear me. Front camera audio is fine, however, as is visual quality for both cameras. Wondering if this has anything to do with the high call volume? Is the mic gain switched for the mics or something? I tried searching forums but nothing specifically referring to this. Cheers1 point

For the record, I'm still unable to send SMS, and don't want to deal with reflashing my phone. As such I'm currently looking into AT&T unless something magically happens before then.1 point

Doesn't compete for me. It's their usual concept of palmtop computer: a very compact notebook that also happens to be a phone. • it's huge and heavy • you are supposed to put it down somewhere if you want to use the keyboard Mechanism looks interesting but unless they came up with some magical spring-loading, pushing it all the way back will be a burden. The advantage will be that there are no hinges that get flexed every time you open it.1 point

Astro Slide 5G can run full Linux like other Planet Computer devices. It has dual boot functionality. However, I would still choose "Pro2" because of the form factor. But If "Pro²" will never happen then I can consider Astro Slide 5G.1 point

Even the portrait keyboards are aware that you must leave some side bezels to allow reaching in thumb typing, without accidental presses of the keys at the edges. And on the other hand, we would really need to curl ours thumb to press the lower left Ctrl without shifting the grip. I'm not convinced. It could be a prototype-issue, but the whole sliding-lowering-tilting mechanism looks terrible complex and fragile. But sure they might be able to improve substantially on that before a final product. see shortly after the 1 minute mark here for the mechanism1 point

I'm not impressed impressed at all. I've not yet found out how the slider is supposed to work and the animations seen on YouTube are physically impossible. And even if it worked like that it would be extremely fragile. Before I actually see such a phone in real hands, this is just a futuristic concept. I could see this coming out in two years or more and with many design changes made beforehand to make it practical. And in this time I expect a Pro2 coming out or at least being at the final step of development. Edit: Thanks netman. I can't believe what my eyes see there. And even if i1 point

Shouldn't it be possible to download and backup the apk with some backup program (p.e. Titanium Backup)? I've installed plenty of apps that way which were not supposed to be compatible with my phone. Or are there in-app problems to be expected as well? PS: A pc emulator might work just as well for downloading. If we have access to the files, I could even imagine extracting the apk from there.1 point

Sorry, and no, that's just dangerous semi-knowledge, and it has nothing to do with the new coronavirus whatsoever. On the contrary, the new coronavirus became the threat it now is because of far too little hygiene on the Chinese wet markets, where living wild animals of lots of different species are crowded together, giving viruses a chance to jump between species which never would come close to each other in nature, which is exactly what happened now, with bats being the original carriers, sold on wet markets because there is demand for them in rural cooking. And Chinese rural households aren1 point

Yesterday I had two spontaneous reboots while having a call. I was working on my garage, and had working gloves on. First time I really thought that the device rebooted spontaneously, and the second time I was ready to throw the device towards concrete wall... But then I realized that I had accidentally long-pressed the power button on both of times and this caused the reboot 😄1 point

Just want to update this thread. FxTec has resolved my issue. And I really really happy, because I was looking really forward to this device and it is everything I have hoped for.1 point

Wasn't sure where else to put this, but I have a bit of a nitpick (and sorry if this was already mentioned elsewhere): the wifi icon has the two little UL/DL arrow icons, but when the "Do Not Disturb" icon is displayed, it shifts left and right as the wifi arrow icons come on and off. It is annoying AF. I mean, could that not have been done better? Is this something that can be fixed?1 point

@netman The right arm has vertical movement (towards the screen) that is what is making the sound. Edit: I am now in contact with FxTec and my issue will be looked after. Also I have found that by placing a toothpick in the edge of the right arm. I have an extremely solid experience. What I actually expected the device to feel like.1 point

Have you actually watched my latest video? I am not shaking the phone! Please watch the last video, I am really dissapointed.1 point

I like the look of the Cosmo too, except that the keyboard is such that you pretty much have to lay it on a table to type. People who already own them have confirmed my suspicion that it is really a UMPC with a phone in the back of the screen rather than a true smartphone with a keyboard. I'll probably get one eventually, but as a curiosity, not a phone.1 point

I started as a cook in institutions some 25 years ago and I remember the introduction of the new health code in kitchens. No more fresh soup, desert, or local vegetables, but all industrial produced/processed half products. in 25 years our lives have changed dramatically from dirt which enhance the immune system to a sterile environment in which we turned in to weak helpless beings with a depraved immune system.0 points
