It is nobody's fault. But when I bought the phone I knew I would have to pay Customs in Brazil. 100% of our imports are like this and there is no way the sender can even estimate the amount of duties that will be imposed. That is upon the Customs officer's interpretation to decide. Maybe I can ask Fxtec for a feimbursement of the estimated duty amount that was included into the full price of the phone. That means, whatever fee Fedex ended up not being able to pay here and thus ended up not charging their account. If they would reimburse me any amount, I would expect of them no more than w7 points

Hi all, I hope you're well, I'm the founder of MediaDevil. I noticed we were getting some traffic from this forum so I followed the trail and voila. We're based in London (South Wimbledon) and we produce our screen protectors. If the Fxtec team entrusts us with a device for a day (we only need it for about an hour), we'll design a bespoke screen protector and it'll be ready for sale the same day. I've just emailed them. Just to comment on some of the earlier stuff: - As others have said, curved glass protectors are not the best. They tend to get lifted off the screen a5 points

I am glad to say that the day has finally come. When my Fxtec Pro¹ has arrived. Even though I followed the forum for a long time now, I am still surprised by the quality designed/engineered into this phone. Maybe I should be less surprised but the thing is cooler in the flesh. I am positively surprised. Here's hoping I won't face any of the hiccups and difficulties other people have! For now... Let me get to know this little beast better. And Fxtec - this phone's a job well done and I can see it's a dream come true for those who dared believe they could achieve making somet4 points

@Swond I ordered one phone as B2B, with VAT excluded. I don't have an EORI, so I just entered my company registration number (there was a box for this in the form). Printed, signed, scanned all needed papers. On the Fedex Electronic Commercial Invoice, there was a "Comments" section where I wrote that taxes were handled by sender because it was DDP. In the mail I sent them with all the attachments, I wrote the same thing and added that I am only the receiver, and the importer was Fxtec, and I'm not supposed to handle anything about customs for this parcel. You can easily find mats of various thickness on e.g. ebay. Search for "adhesive neoprene" (or rubber) and you will find it offered as mats or bands in various thickness.3 points

@N-Mi Thanks for your info. In conclusion we made it the same way, I just made the EORI number on top of that. Its free of charge, so why not. And sign all documents with info of DDP same as you. Now the status changed also to "delivering" without any other specification. Lets see. Looking forward to any info either from FedEx, either from you.3 points

A mere year after purchase, I finally got the phone this Tuesday. Here are some initial impressions of my QWERTZ model. So far, this is a keeper. The packaging is great which is always a good start. Build quality of the phone is very nice safe for the rattle which I will fix with tape once I am 100% certain I’ll keep the phone. As was said before, the Pro1 is one thicc boi but the heft is reassuring and the phone does not feel slippery. The hardware exudes quality. I like it. Some issues and ideas: Somehow my SD card got busted, still not sure whether this is a card or phone2 points

@FlyingAntero and @EskeRahn thank you for the detailed explanations. However, I am not familiar with these languages nor their keyboards. I rely on pictures of keyboards to see how keys map to symbols. So if you want different layouts for different languages, it would be convenient for you to provide me with the key mapping information rather than the actual symbols. I would prefer a keymap line that I can use directly, but the physical key map would also work. And I assume the same changes apply to both qwerty and qwertz layouts. correct? Here is a keymap example for Y <-&2 points

In Scandinavia four different yet almost identical layouts are in play. I agree with @FlyingAntero that the layouts from FinQwerty would be a good aiming point. They are described graphically including colouring what is different from stock here: https://android.onse.fi/finqwerty/#pro1 The Finnish and Swedish for qwertZ are identical. The Norwegian is almost identical to the former, but Ö->Ø and Ä->Æ (Same sounds, different symbols for historical reasons 🙄 ) The Danish is identical to the Norwegian except a swap Æ<->Ø. (Utterly silly... 🤪 ) Similar for the qwertY, ex2 points

Found a solution: Go to Bluetooth settings Go to used devices or available media devices Go to individual device's settings Uncheck HD-Audio And yes, it works! Likely the speakers are too old to handle the HD-Audio and there is no automatic stepdown.2 points

I faced some issues with the camera crashing, so decided to clear cache and storage. After that the UI has changed (see attached before and after) Please, can you confirm which UI is the expected one? Thanks1 point

FinQwerty fixes that and other minor keyboard quirks for Stock. I can HIGHLY recommend it. it is NOT something running, just a loader presenting more layout files to the system. And thus works fine with SwiftKey too.1 point

You can wake the phone using the keyboard by pressing Alt+Sym on stock 🙂1 point

I also posted https://community.sprint.com/t5/Moto-Google-Essential-Others/Fxtec-Pro1-Activation/m-p/1081174#M1873 to the Sprint forums to see if it provides another Sprint audience -- and hopefully response -- for getting approval. The CDMA network is pretty key for my reception in mountains here in the mountain West of the US.1 point

I would order from you if postage fee is not extremely high for Hungary. I had a screen protector applied which was made for Elephone U Pro which worked for a while, however, its size is not absolutely perfect. I have cut another screen protector bought at BastScreensEver which I think would be one of the best materials, but I used the other one as template which is a bit taller than necessary and the edges finally lifted up a bit. However, I have also cut a protector from the same material and applied it to Pro1's back and sides. So I would be happy if a similar protector would1 point

I think I would only be requested for additional docs if I had ordered as a business.1 point

The guy that does Fedex deliveries for my area has just called. Since my order was for an individual, and not a business, the "simplified" Customs procedure was adopted. Turns out all I have to do is pay an amount which corresponds to roughly 280 euros to Fedex. They have already paid the governement. Business as usual here in Brazil. In my more than 10 years experience with international trade, never had I come to know of a successful DDP import arrangement into Brazil. Mainly because there are so many variables at play, that the final duties and taxes amount is an unknown quan1 point

I tried to activate mine on Sprint the other day by swapping the sim from my Moto Z2 and it seemed to pick up the number but kept complaining the sim was locked. Tried to get Sprint support to add the IMEI to their database so I could activate it with no luck. My plan is to just switch to T-Mobile over the next few days and activate it there.1 point

Sure, we will! It is interresting you didnt obtain any documents. I can say it has arrived immediately after the tracking info came. Local FedEx sent me an invoice to check and confirm, power of attorney to represent myself during the customs process and few questions e.g. what the object in the package is, who is the producer, what are my initials and company identification etc.1 point

I've just spent a whole day with the Pro1, and overall, I love the device. Here are some of my thoughts and issues. It's a thicc boi! But I'm ok with that because it feels really solid in hand. Keyboard opening clack is so satisfactory. Holding Shift + alphabet keys on the physical kb doesn't capitalise. I have to toggle Caps Lock on/off for capitalisation which is slower and inconvenient. Key modifiers really need to be sticky. I'm using the Swype + Dragon virtual keyboard which doesn't seem to play nice with the physical keyboard open. If I tap to focus in a text inp1 point

Mine came in a protective 'bag' in the box, not with a protective foil over the display.. See my unpack images here https://eskerahn.dk/?p=36511 point

Now it looks better with a factory reset. No more chinese app names and got my 128gb😃 So still maybe a used phone with little scratches on the display.1 point

Soooooo.. How many of you have the phone bought for company? As B2B? I mean those from last shipped batch. Our phones for CZE are stuck in Prague airport for customs clearance. It seems, that DDP is a problem in this case, because the product has been shipped from out of the EU. @CornholioGSM has been told, that the correct way was to transfer the batch into GB, all customs should be cleared there (those customs for EU) and then it can be sent into other EU countries as B2B. Problem within this case is VAT. FxTEC correctly sent those units VAT excluded, but from HK, not from GB like it usuall1 point

Hmm guessing here. The 152 could well be that the phone was almost finished before the Corona mess, and then only got the final parts later, e.g. the keyboard (assuming that stuff are charged and tested before being finalised, to catch bad parts as soon as possible in the assembly) On the 16GB try a factory reset - yes sounds silly, but after initial flashing it used to display way too low until a factory reset. Obviously you ought not to need doing that on a freshly delivered device though - so rather odd. And no haptic feedback on the camera-button to my knowledge1 point

Generally, I like that there are only minimal changes compared to the prints. For Finnish I would like the layout provided by FinQwerty. Most important changes are: Y <-> Z Ü -> Å Then it is a matter of opinion which one is better: A: ß -> + + -> ' B: ß -> ' I think that most of people would prefer A option even though I like the B option (only minor changes). I just like that Yellow arrow combinations are like they are printed to keyboard. Shift combinations for the top row can be like they are on the FinQwerty layout1 point

Did you remember to select QWERTZ from the device specific settings on LOS (settings>system>keyboard)? It should be working good with German.1 point

Yes I understood you and tried the 2.4 separate from the 5 (sorry if I didn't sound like that). As for the security on my netgear router/modem, the ones I had listed in the previous comment were the only options available.1 point

@Alex You are not supposed to update on such a low charge.. Give it at least 60%.1 point

The Lineage keyboard implementation is entirely different from stock. So the FinQwerty data is not really useful. But this should not be hard -- there are likely only a couple of keys that need to be changed. My paypal is https://paypal.me/tdmcode1 point

For those using languages other than English and German on LineageOS, it would be possible to create additional keyboard maps in the kernel to match the expected keyboard layout for your language. If anyone is interested, let me know and I can work with you.1 point

If you have a nice sharp craft knife and a steady hand 2mm single sided draught excluder tape will also do the job. Much like Slion's suggestion really. I've actually used the same stuff for making the rubber door seals on large scale model cars.1 point
-
I did some trials with various materials and thickness. If you just want to cover the screws any black tape will do. If you want to get ride of the rattling while closed you probably need 2mm squishy foam on every corner of the screen. Nothing else would do for me. I tried 1mm hard rubber in seven emplacements, including the four corners and the two screws in the middle and that does not help at all with the rattling. I've settled with 2mm rubber foam on every corner and 1mm hard rubber for those two screws in the middle.1 point

Although I was never really a fan of this type of sleeve over just a rubber skin type cover I ordered this one as well and it does fit perfectly - quality is great too. It was a bit expensive...I think something like 30 or 35 euro's + shipping. in any case I do think it was well worth it.1 point

Thanks to the guys at MediaDevil, after a couple more attempts we found that their iPhone 6/7/8 Plus leather pulltab case is a far better fit for the Pro1. They ship internationally and I could not recommend their customer service enough. Also the quality and workmanship of the case is excellent. https://mediadevil.com/collections/apple-iphone-8-plus-accessories/products/artisanpouch-leather-pouch-case-apple-iphone-6-plus1 point

The work around for the fingerprint seems to be to register those parts of your palm that usually trigger the reader in error. I did the following, activate FP registration and do those task that trigger the reader. Like lay it on the table and pick it up and lay it down until this action is registered as FP1. Then move to FP2 and eg pull the pro¹ from your pocket multiple times until FP2 is registered. I did this with 5 actions and the result was the pro¹ unlocked as soon as i picked it up.1 point

Currently using a black velveteen pouch that's a lot lighter and quicker to remove than the grey felt slip. Helps keep pocket dust from entering, but not from scratches when placing on a surface, much less when dropping a naked 244g phone onto cement. I admire Hook's stick-on skin to keep the back in good condition when placing it face-up on an uneven surface. Also helps elevate the glass camera lenses even if it's just by 0.0001mm. So far it's the only one I could almost see myself doing as it doesn't detract much from the aesthetic. But I'm really holding out for the k1 point

If anyone is interested in a well made leather pouch with a pull tab, I recently bought this one from MediaDevil in the UK. I tried a couple of different sizes. It's not perfect as the phone does protrude from the top a bit and it could do with being slightly narrower but until someone produces a custom fitted case for the Pro1 it's a bit more robust than the fabric sleave suplied by F(x)Tec. (It does have a couple of small holes at the back for what I assume is for a speaker on the back of the note 4). https://mediadevil.com/collections/all/products/artisanpouch-leather-pouch-case-sam1 point

That *is* an issue. The Pro1 seems to need only a very light pressure on the power button. I didn't have the problem with the JollaC, or Xperia. It doesn't cause much of a problem in SFOS, as after pressing the power button, if you don't swipe the screen it turns off again in a few seconds. So it's only an annoyance. As for Android - don't know, don't much care1 point

looks quite fancy @epninety! What somehow bothers me about sleeves, also the official Fxtec one, apart from the protection being only temporary, is that I always press the power button while slipping it in.1 point

I had fitbag.de make me a leather pouch back in September when we all thought the Pro1 would arrive soon(tm). So it's been sat in a drawer until last week, but it's nicely made, a good fit for the device, and the microfibre keeps the screen cleaned. As I've used then before for my JollaC, I know it will only get better with time. Sorry for the poor photo quality, and yes, I did ask to have it made with each side a different colour (Before anyone asks - the Pro1 is only sticking out of the pouch so you can see whats in it! When fully in place it is about 5mm1 point

As far as my experience the pouch is very well protecting the phone, but sortof tight and fiddly. Now I use one of these instead which is quite a bit easier to insert/remove the phone to and from [WARNING I had the wrong link here first, it is updated now] https://www.amazon.com/fitBAG-Tailored-Germany-Microfibre-Cleaning/dp/B07XJ76Q28/1 point

I have actually done that to my current phone. When the battery gets very low, it heats up when charging and the safety protection kicks in and stops charging, so the phone runs out of battery and dies. It doesn't always happen, but has happened sometimes. I think when the battery is older/degraded, it happens more. So what I have done is to put it between ice packs while charging. :-)1 point
