The Open source FinQwerty extends the layout to something I would have expected the Pro1 had out of the box. Including an improved German for qwertZ, but also other layouts. So I will highly recommend that people consider it over the default "German" as this is currently implemented. Especially shift doubling for Fn on the yellow-printed keys, except the letter keys. e.g. Shift+1 gives "!" and not just "1".

They should really be called SKB. Surrogate KeyBoards ๐

OK, just did, moved to this

Are you insinuating that not everybody would find it in here?๐คฃ

Just experimented and you can actually open it in slightly different way starting by LIFTING the front edge (rather than pushing it down), and then pushing horizontal! Sort of like an upside down L. That is not quite as contra intuitive AND is easier to use with a case attached. You could say that you attempt to squeeze in a finger between the two halves. You can do that by 'rolling' in your thumb! I will try to make a video of that too...

For all of us I would say, Except those of us that used the N97, E7 or the like back in the days, and still got he memory of it in their hands. It could be worth exercising breaking down the movement. First get it to lift the rear, and release it back. And when that is in place extend it with a small flat push and release, and finally followed by the lift also.

The push needed is not harder than to light a match. It is really hard to explain in words, I usually compare it to explaining how to ride a bike. In theory terrible complex to explain, and with a short but steep learning curve, but once your body gets it, it is as easy as pie, and you can not imaging how it was ever difficult to learn. I remember back in the days of the Nokia N97mini, I had otherwise very handy people having huge troubles figuring it ought. One that was interested in a real keyboard even gave up, and continued with T9 typing of a classic phone keyboard! The main obs

P30, or? I fear that it might be a bit high, and thus potentially disturbing the slider, but let us know ๐

Wonderful! And I assume you will it ready for us for Christmas morning? ๐๐คฃ

....Here a trimmed and reduced 0.25x slow motion video showing it in more detail. Note how the back lifts as the first, as the initial push is slightly downwards on the front edge. YouCut_20191223_174454298.mp4

That bug has been fixed with the latest OTA update, yes ๐
-
Sorry misunderstood, the bug I knew of was regulating the microphone level... ๐

Hmm, if I use one sim, it works equally well for 3G/4G in either slot. Have not tried with two sims though. Could also be a setting issue: Settings, Network & Internet, Mobile network, select relevant tab, advanced, Preferred Network Type

Yes รผnรผsรคblรซ ๐ I would have wished it came with a setup something like what FinQwerty does out of the box. Or even better easy user customizable layouts.

Some are having issues opening the Pro1. So just to make sure here a small thread with a few hints. Inspired by this question. There are (at the least) three ways to open it The easiest, Lift the back The classic push front down, horizontal and up Roll in, push the front UP and then horizontal See videos later in this thread, As I get stuff moved out of the long one.... ADD: To a more discrete opening with two hands I usually push with one thumb and restrain the rear with the index on the other hand.

Yes, a known and really annoying bug. Hopefully they will fix it in an OTA update soon. misread, sorry

Yeah, they are too busy reading all this stuff to actually making phones...๐

Because it is impossible to prove any conspiracy theory wrong

I included the Var in the link, yes the Huawei P20 Pro. And note that the mechanism closing, is more like what you are used to, than the one for the Note7 I first modified, with the long magnetic flap.

Though "unusable" is pushing it, Anssi certainly lifted it to where the keyboard experience should have been out of the box IMHO. In principle trivial software mapping, but it makes a HUGE difference in improved user experience. So a big thanks from me too. Oh guys, talking thanks, note that his page for this open source project got a donate button๐ , He certainly deserves that we 'give him a beer'.

You know... that are pages not posts ..... ...As if this thread was not too long already... ๐๐คฃ

I'm not quite sure where the wobbling you describe appear. But some strategically placed tiny pieces of self adhesive felt (like used inside jewellery boxes and the like) can improve the experience to an exclusive level. I had many on the "pre-production" unit, a few on the "Final sample" and a single one only on the "Retail" unit.

I think this sums it all up really precisely. ๐ For some the keyboard is a less used part of a phone, and they can let do with the touch surrogate keyboards, to get a lesser device. Others want a real keyboard, but are more depending on the many apps only optimised for portrait, and for those the BB Priv or BB Keyยฝ are more optimal. And a minority that types a lot, we prefer a keyboard in the right direction, but still also being able to use it as a dumb slab. And this is the niche where the Pro1 fits. And of course this is a continuous spectrum. There are no perfect phone for everyo

You would find this very close. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273929614068?var=573824044761 I have yet to update my blog-post on cases with this one, that is slightly better than the one for the Samsung Note 7, mainly due to the magnet system.
