  1. Turns out it was a loose pin. I went in with my basic iFixit tool kit, followed the steps in this PDF took off the screen, unplugged and re-plugged in the section that was marked LCD screen, put everything back as it was, and it works again. Everything is back to normal and good to go (except for sending SMS, but that's a different problem having to do with Verizon).

  2. Today my country (United States) and State (Michigan) have basically cancelled EVERYTHING. International shipping, public events, school....you name it, it's cancelled. First it was masks, and now people are hoarding toilet paper, of all things....you can't find it on store shelves now. Coronavirus. With the panic that this virus has created, you'd think it was like rabies where no one survives, and we were facing mass extinction. Personally, I think that it's becoming increasingly obvious that this will not be remembered as a major medical catastrophe, but as a major PSYCHOLOGICAL catast

  3. Quick update: @EskeRahn I'll add LiveDisplay back for the next build. @auvo.salmi something happened with my DNS and it lost all the IPv6 entries. I have restored them and it should be working again. I asked about gapps persistence in Lineage Slack and the answer was that gapps persistence only works for OTA on A/B devices, not with sideload. This is because nobody has been able to figure out get it working with sideload. So, as you are surely aware by now, gapps needs to be flashed after updating. I'll try to fix this soon. But this won't be a problem

  4. The good news is that, while under conducive conditions the virus is said to be able to sustain six days on smooth material, no infection from shipped goods has been observed until now, and it is thought to be extremely improbable (source: RKI, Germany)...

  5. Lineage does not have gapps, so an official Lineage build could not be used for stock. It would be technically possible to build Lineage with the approved gapps for a stock replacement, but this would violate the contract with Google. Unfortunately, IdeaLTE is a hardware manufacturer and FxTec is too small to have a software team. So the current situation where stock is a basic no-frills system while Lineage is a much nicer alternative will surely persist for quite some time.

  7. My understanding is that in R (which will surely be LineageOS 18), Google has implemented some sort of cryptographic authenticator using the TEE for safetynet attestation. In layman's terms, this means the validation is happening in a place that cannot be easily seen or modified, and thus cannot be easily faked as it is now. But keep in mind I am not an expert on SafetyNet -- I don't use it and generally don't care about it. I only read a short post by John Wu on the subject.

  8. They still have a really good chance then, because they can likely avoid this by being cautious like they always do during flu season. If they don't, then they'll have IMHO roughly the same odds as they'd have had with the plain ol' flu that also goes around. My point is that this is no worse than flu, and the panic response is totally unwarranted. I may be right, I may be crazy. Time will tell. I'm a naturally cautious person, and my danger sensors are not sounding alarms about the virus, but they are about the panic. THE PANIC will be very deadly.

  9. @silversolver I agree to a very large extent. But the point of the current actions of many governments is NOT to claim that it can stop the virus (only fools believe that IMHO). The point is to DELAY the spread. So the few that will need treatment can get the treatment. If a lot get sick at the same time the health system will crash. But if it can be prolonged it is possible. Actually this flu seems to have a rather low mortality, even for the severe cases IF the patient get the iron lung support they need. But that will not be possible to offer if a lot comes in at the same time. T

  10. @Rob. S. Yes, I accept the death of the feeble and elderly. They are never far away from it, and SOMETHING is going to push them over the edge, in most cases sooner rather than later. This is a reality that the feeble and elderly have always faced, and the only thing different now is that we fool ourselves into thinking we can do something about that. We are an increasingly delusional people that way. Once upon a time we accepted our mortality, but now we pretend that it is preventable when it is not. The "vaccines" for cold and flu are of very limited usefulness because the viruses change so

  11. I tested both official and LOS for quite a long time. Right now LOS is much better, has great support, has less issues, is fast and at least as stable, as official build. Good job tdm! Thanks to your work this phone gets almost perfect. Because what would be a great hardware with poor software? The answer is stock Pro1. Thank you very much. If there is a way to repay you for your work somehow (ie paypal account), please let us know, because at least me, I'd be glad to offer some money as donation for your effort.

  12. That's got to be at least tricky legally. Searching a bit it seems that technically they should be able to do that, at least in the EU. Anywhere else and they might run into problems with the contract with google for the play store certification since it apparently says you can't sell devices with and with google play services. Aside from that, if they find a way to sell it with LineageOS instead, they'd be selling a phone that technically doesn't have all the features advertised since it wouldn't have google pay. They could do some other tricks to ship LineageOS with working google pay, but I

I hope F(x)tec will catch up production relatively soon and you will receive your product in the near future or at least you can find someone who don't need it or willing to wait a bit longer for a more polished software or any other reason. For me, I am really happy with my QWERTZ Pro1 what I use and I would personally buy it again so I hope you will also enjoy your Pro1 soon.

Sorry for having to be this explicit, but everyone who complains about and rejects measures being taken against the free spreading of SARS-CoV-2 assenting accepts the sure death of millions of old and weak human beings on this planet, for whom there is neither vaccination nor cure as soon as they catch the virus. This is a danger and a lethality several magnitudes higher than with a cold, and still much higher than a full-grown influenza. Please read and follow what the professionals say on the subject. 20. Thank you for everything you are doing. I'm probably going to root stock so I can do a Titanium backup and then wipe and try Lineage. It is amazing to have this kind of support for our phones and your hard work is so appreciated. I also appreciate that you are going to put together an AOKP build. I can't wait. But, for now, take care and do what you need to do for your family. I have family in Seattle myself. I just sent you a six pack to get you though. 😉

  21. A better way to solve this problem (for now) is to just factory load LineageOS prior to shipping (or at least give the option to customers for receiving a device with Lineage. @tdm has been fixing the bugs one by one, and LOS is much more stable than the stock ROM. Additionally, he has implemented, and is continuing to implement, very worthwhile enhancements.

  25. Wow, I hope I'm misunderstanding you here, because that would be several orders of magnitude more inhuman even than Silversolver's stance — with or without this continuation: Even if reducing the population would be something that should be desired, would killing human beings really be an acceptable way to do it? Why not drop some atom bombs? (Don't answer, it's a rhetorical question.) But why should we reduce the population of this planet anyway, while this planet can easily nourish a far larger population? (This was attested only a few years ago by the UN Special Representative

  26. I don't think so. In China, only a very small percentage of the population had it, and the recovery rate is already higher than what is left of the infection rate. It may well be that China will very soon see the end of the epidemic.

[removed one argument, which was supposed to be answer to your earlier message, but I forgot to quote it so my argument was an useless insult] a) people don't die to a cold. Some fraglie elderly people do, but they would have died anyway soon, and yet you can't say the actual cause of death was the flu, but it was weak heart or bad lungs instead. Influenza kills people, still most of them are old and sick, but there is some healthy young people among them. And corona has several times high

  28. Unfortunately, this scenario could play, but it won't be because of the virus, but because of the PANIC. Under normal circumstances, those who really need treatment seek it, and the rest just drink chicken juice and take long naps. Under a panic situation, people believe that their non-life-threatening illness, whether scare-onavirus or something else, may be life-threatening, and seek treatment, therefore creating massive demand for services, most of which are completely unneeded. Again, at this point it's all but a guarantee that THE PANIC will be deadly.

  29. And that not only means that many people being sick with Covid-19 can't be treated anymore, it means that anyone getting sick won't get treatment anymore. It means that people will die a miserable death by appendicitis again. No matter how well they're insured.

  31. @silversolver For most people it will be just a cold. But for a certain percentage of people it is deadly. Trouble is, we still don't know how many people will catch it world wide and which percentage of them will die from it. The German chancelor apparently mentioned yesterday that 70% of the German could catch it. If 1% of them die that's more than half million dead we are talking about, just in Germany. So no, it's not just a cold but it's apparently also not a mass extinsion event either, as it looks like the human race could recover from it 😁 However who knows what pol

  32. Indeed; I've been following everything here for some time but this specific aspect is still unclear for me, too. Until some point my interpretation of what I read was that we'd get SafetyNet approved as soon as our LineageOS would become an official build, but now I'm not too sure, since somewhere else I read something that would require Magisk to enable it (while I would have thought Magisk would only be needed for root). Consider me confused as well 😉

  42. We are very sorry for the issues caused. After some investigation we have found the reason, it was due to the upgrade of security patch to October which needs to be approved from the authority before it was released, which caused CTS to fail. Also there is no way to downgrade security patch via OTA (the user data will be wiped if doing this way.) Therefore the current workaround / work is: - We are acquiring the latest security patch (Feb 2020) and will submit for approval before the next OTA. Therefore once the next OTA with latest security patch applied, and appro

  44. The built-in root option only allows root from adb shell. It doesn't give apps root permission. To give apps permission (and get on device root shell) requires an add-on to be flashed from recovery. To get rid of it, you flash the remover from recovery. They're both available from the official lineage extras download page: https://download.lineageos.org/extras I suspect based on what you linked, you're right that to use Magisk with lineage ota updates one will still have to re-flash magisk after every update, or decrypt data for long term workaround. I suspect the lineage add-on will

  45. Yes. The lineage install process is to use fastboot to flash lineage recovery to boot on one slot, then use lineage recovery to install lineageos then optionally a Google Apps package (mindthegapps or opengapps) and/or a root solution (lineage addon su or magisk) on the other slot. When Lineage for our device leaves the test stage and becomes official, then we start getting official otas, and I'm pretty sure root persists then, if not magisk, certainly addon_su, but not sure until it happens.

  50. In my recent adventure resulting in my having to start from scratch, this didn't work, but I can't be sure that, in mucking around, I ended up doing something myself to mke this procedure not work. However, I tried unrooting by flashing the original boot.img andthe OTA failed. I then flashed the original system.img and it still didn't take the OTA. What's more, when I tried to return to root by flashing the modified boot.img, Magisk acted like it wasn't installed. So I wasn't rooted and I couldn't take OTAs. So I finally restored the original boot.img and system.img and erased userdata.
