  1. I think I posted this before. But I've never used another message board/forum where editing had a time limit. Sure, if someone changes something, it may mess up the other messages, but so what? instead of having 5 irrevelevant posts, it'll have 1 relevant post and 4 perhaps confusing outdated posts, but the relevant post shows it was edited on a certain date and the others have a date anyway, and if they wanted to, they coulda quoted the first message to show what they're replying to at the time they replied to it, to avoid people possibly thinking they posted something irrelevant in the pa

  3. Indeed @Craig, you are a good observer! Andyou are right. Well lets say there is one guy at this forum, who ordered qwertz and going to use qwerty layout. But this means at least one guy. Whether one is not at the forum does not mean there is noone else outside. And I can understand it. 99.9% people will use qwertz cz layout. But more experienced users (eg coders etc) are using qwerty cz layout. Its easier to use for code and they still have the advantage of our language specific characters when actualy not coding, but having fun for example. The fact why they would order a physical qwertz ins

  4. Well I used the BB Priv for quite a while sort of with similar feelings. Far from perfect for me with the keyboard in the wrong direction, but it was definitely the least bad option available. The Pro1 is MUCH closer to what I want. And most of the things I have to complain about could be fixed with firmware. e.g. I have since spring suggested them to offer the users an OPTION that 'simply' made a user selectable logical display. Call it software-bezels, This would allow some users to use the full edge screen, and others to have a flat square slightly lesser display area. People with

  5. I'm using ideas from that link, yes. VERY helpful! But was traveling from 17th to the end of the year, so would not get back to receive shipment any sooner. I stuck a piece of closed cell foam cushion on the bottom of the phone temporarily until I got back. Not that hard to imagine, pic below of a perfectly decent 2 piece Body Glove case on a slider keyboard phone, that I know for a fact can take multiple 4' drops onto concrete and phone is unscathed. Given that we can get the Huawei and other cases to work, the bottom part is feasible. The top would be trickier design to

  6. Though you of course technically are right that a more complex process is more expensive. The strange thing is that curved displays have become so widespread that they actually sell cheaper. I guess simply due to being produced in larger quanta.

  7. I think the others above have been making this point, but while I understand this thinking (I also remember JFK), I think smartphones have hit the same CPU plateau computers hit in the mid 2000s. Succeeding generations of chips get faster on the benchmarks, but in real life, performance isn't getting that much better and, in fact, battery consumption may be getting worse for what little performance benefit you get. I don't think there is a lot that an 835 SD CPU and 6 Gb won't be able to handle for some time to come. For the same reason, I don't even care if I have the latest version of And

  8. I can absolutely follow you, BUT it much depends on whether you can feel reasonably certain that you can buy another in a couple of years or not. I mean the approach makes a lot of sense for a device like the Pro1 where we do not know if/when there will be another. Had it come in several 'flavours' I would for sure have bought the one with top specs. But If I was in the market for an ordinary slab, I would most likely be looking at say yesteryears flagship, As I would feel certain that I would have upgraded to something different before it even got close to it's theoretical end of life, S

  11. This is just semantics. I meant those retailers you're also talking about. I'm sorry I didn't overly qualify it to suit your standards, I thought it was clear I wasn't suddenly talking about different stores that haven't been mentioned before. True, but that was merely a side analogy to indicate that promises don't make things okay. Not my main point. I agree that the problem was that they decided that promise was to be taking preference over their other promises. Again, not the case. You're misrepresenting the situation by omitting information and saying it's only because of a

  13. I'm just an observer, who sees one guy said 99.99% of Czech ppls use qwertz. But one prominent (in the keyboard phone community at least) Czech said he has always used qwerty. So, perhaps if that kinda buy bought a qwertz variant locally but wanted to use qwerty layout on it, that kinda person would be glad it was included in FinQwerty.

  15. I've always considered rounded screens without bezels an unnecessary expense that provides little or no added functionality, an increased screen damage liability (edge impact is added to the things that can easily break the screen), a more expensive repair if that happens, and a complication in finding a hard case to prevent that from happening if one's lifestyle makes that protection prudent. Or to put it more simply, I have no use for them. Rounded screens add expense, and increase the risk of damage and the cost of repair, while providing zero functional benefit. That being said,

"last word" - your prerogative, your opinion, ok; mine is to differ with you: https://community.fxtec.com/topic/2596-on-the-production-status/?do=findComment&comment=38853 esp. with "aggressively envious" which is also just your opinion, & for me, unnecessarily judgmental. I have more than voiced an opinion: I have withdrawn my financial support, because, for me, their business model has clearly changed. If they wish to support resellers over long suffering, till now loyal, pre order customers: fine, that's F(x) prerogative; but that was sufficient cause for me to withdraw

  17. It is MUCH more important NOT to use quick/fast charging in daily usage. Use an old say 0.5A charger, or a USB output from a pc or radio. It will be able to charge the Pro1 while we sleep, but does it slowly, and thus with marginally heating, and that really matters for the overall battery life. Use the quick/fast charging when in need only. It is like eating junk food. Occasional usage is not an issue - but don't do it every day. I have a lot on charging on my blog, e.g. start here

  18. I'm starting this thread to list what I feel are some missing essential features in the stock version of Android. Not necessarily bugs, but things that are missing that would be great for FxTec to implement. Feel free to add others if you feel some essential feature is missing. #1 Sticky Modifiers. When shift/alt/ctrl/slantarrow is pressed then released, the next keypress should behave as if the modifier is still stuck down. Ideally the caps led would illuminate when shift is pressed (until next key is pressed). [Include a toggle in slider settings to disable if possible.] #2 W

  20. It has to do with the immutable fact that software developers will always exploit hardware to its maximum capabilities; so at some point, every chip no longer performs as well in terms of user experience. It may be counting to one just as many times every second as it did when it was young, but it's starting to fall behind software that's pushing it to count faster. That's why my policy with electronics that I can't easily upgrade post-purchase is to buy bleeding-edge. It delays the onset of obsolescence. A phone with a 2-year-old chip will obsolesce two years sooner, meaning I'm paying f

  23. I'm also on the fence and leaning toward the "no" side, for some of the same reasons; but I'm interested enough to stay informed, also for the same reasons. The downsides of my buying this phone right now (were that even possible) are many. The most important is that it doesn't have full support for AT&T bands. I haven't checked the VZW or TMO bands, however. VZW, if fully-supported on all bands, would definitely be an option for me. They have good signal here. TMO or one of their MVNO's might be an option for me. I haven't tested TMO's 600 MHz signal where I live. I know their other

  26. I'll preface this by copying the warning on the page I'm linking: So with that out of the way, has anybody tried https://github.com/Magisk-Modules-Repo/acc It seems to have a bunch of functions to extend battery life, but it does require root via Magisk. One specific function that seems to work on a very limited number of devices is to limit the charging current via applyOnPlug=usb/current_max:MICRO_AMPS . This seems to accomplish what most people here would want, without needing to use a specific charger.

  30. So their size disqualifies them as retailers? Forgive me for not understanding and discussing what seems reasonable. Retailers were prioritzed over IGG backers. "First come, first served" is a basic rule of business. More so in this situation. No one has displayed any envy. Just pointing out the lack of good business practices. Which as a customer, I think is legitimate. First time companies make mistakes. It would help if they took responsibility, apologized and said this will not happen again moving forward. I love this tech. This is an opportunity for them.

  31. That's simply incorrect. I have a QWERTY preorder with IGG coupon in EU and mine wasn't shipped.
    1 point
  32. While I agree with your overall point that IGG backers should have received their phones before non-IGG backers, in all fairness these two statements (above) are incorrect. You received more than a promise, you also received the option of a full refund (out of their own pocket). This is almost unheard of and you could have lost your investment, but instead they acted honorably. They didn't sell the same device twice, they sold the ones that shipped early on as preorders. There might have been other legal obligations (I'm not privy to this info, but it's often how it works) that we are

  34. Unfortunately it does not work. I could easily separate my test SIM (an expired one), it was still working. However, if I put an SD card in Pro1's tray, I can not even pull it out with nails, only with my special tools which may be used to take apart plastic things without much signs. ...and this is only a SIM1 + MicroSD without any additional thickness. So the slot is too tight and it can not accept the SD card and separated SIM chip on top of it - or at least I did not dare to force the tray in as it may destroy something or will be impossible to take it out.

  35. I've done SIM+SD merge many times, it's really very simple: just heat the SIM card with a lighter for about 3-4 seconds. The chip part will detach from the plastic and won't hurt it. Then you can glue the SIM chip onto the top of the SD card with any glue (even a thin double-sided glue or a drop of quick glue). Only the first one seems complicated, all others are really can be prepared in no time. 😄

  37. Using two SIM cards and an SD card was never a feature of the device in the first place. Any problems that arise from your attempts to do so are entirely a result of your own actions. You're the one destroying SD cards, not the phone.

  39. Who knows??? I do! It's not going to happen anytime soon, Verizon is a big bureaucracy that is consumed with policy (or what they believe to be policy). Not faulting Verizon over the other large carriers, they are all close to the same with policy nightmares, but Verizon and Sprint (here in the US) have IMEI/MEID problems (while 3G is still in play).

  41. But remember that most of us dinosaurs will not be using a forum like this. At the most read it for info, not posting (or joining a poll) so the poll at best reflects the age distribution of the active forum users, not the distribution of the pre-order costumers or target audience in general. But sure a good thing that is is not limited to dinosaurs only, as you and others might spread the word better to the non-dinosaurs than we can.

  42. Yes, AGAIN. So much for backing, staying with them and not asking for a refund, like others did. I asked them when they did it the first time and they wrote me that there was a mistake. Interesting repetitive mistake. More like they don't give a s.it about their word or backers.

  46. I'd like to believe this, but I cannot any more. Too many missed hopes & promises; as per another thread I've now been refunded. The last straw, for me I'm afraid, was selling to resellers. Then seriously expecting us to believe they could massively scale up to complete ALL pre-orders in a matter of weeks, over the world's biggest holiday period, when they've taken months to produce perhaps only a few hundred so far. So I will wait to see if & when Clove are restocked, & then decide if this long over due handset is worth it anymore....

On the 11th Dec I requested a refund, after a number repeat requests, my money was eventually refunded 14 days later - one day before the bank said they would start a recovery procedure! ...So one of you lucky people may get a phone ahead of schedule 😉 If F(x)tec survives this farce, I may see you when the product goes retail and has a hard case. Playstore is blocking netflix download for our device for some reason. Usually that kinda thing happens when you have the wrong android version, or your device doesnt have some hardware the game needs, etc....
