I've been working on an app to restore the backlight functionality on LineageOS builds (It will NOT work on stock). It's called KB Backlight Manager. It runs as a foreground service to monitor the system for the slider events and turns the backlight on or off depending on it's state. It also includes a QuickSettings tile so you can easily turn it on or off from there and an option to disable the backlight completely as well as an option to enable/disable the QuickSetting tile. You can get the latest builds over on the Github page for it here: https://github.com/JooJooBee666/KB_Backlight9 points

In these kinds of situations it may be worth sending the insurance company in question an e-mail and asking what they can do, I think.5 points

Well, a full answer to that question would be quite lengthy. The brief overview is that there are different parts of the (cell) radio stack and certain parts are subject to vendor changes while others are not. Generally speaking, Google and Qualcomm rarely agree on things outside basic things in the system and will implement them in different ways. This leads to AOSP hardware support for Qualcomm devices (eg. used in Nexus/Pixel) having one set of code while the Qualcomm BSP code is different. This is most apparent in things like advanced audio (compression, offloading) and the radio stack4 points

Essentially, there is no difference. One needs a mule phone to make this work (see the original pages of this thread) because Verizon won't activate the Pro1 directly. Your mule was the S10 (which I know works, because I did it for a friend with his S10, and I have also used an S8, both work fine -as should just about any other phone that supports VoLTE with a SIM that is also compatible and provisioned for it). That's all that is needed (hardware wise) to get your Pro1 up and running (sans the CDMA network). The only difference between what you did and cfeltych's experience is that he4 points

Forgot to add, the Verizon tech who got my Pro 1 working was extremely impressed by it and said she's going to order one herself.4 points

I noticed that there is a very limited (read - stock) support for dual SIM operation. One would expect at least a couple of functions every other manufacturer implements for dual SIM: 1. ability to assign the SIM to use for a contact (e.g. I use my personal number to communicate with my family and friends, but use my business one for everything else. 2. ability to select the SIM to make call before the call is made (stock option is to have the default SIM for calls defined and a button to switch SIM during the call, which is inconvenient and most of the time expensive. Unbelievable! I'm getting it tomorrow. Assuming it actually arrives, that's 8 days from ordering it to getting it (29th Jan to 4th Feb). If anyone is in the UK (or possibly Europe?) and wants the phone soon, it seems that ordering from Clove is the way to go. I only ordered it on Wednesday 29th Jan. I now have to get my refund back from FxTec... (I have already asked for it, but have only had an autoresponse so far.)2 points

...Sometimes when printing wears off stickers it leaves an 'inverse' image that can be viewed with certain angles/light sources. Have you tried shining various lights at it and seeing if anything is visible? ...And now I'm glad I removed my sticker and stuck it on the packaging.2 points

Hi there, Don't know if it's the right place. If I may, I have 1 potential bug and a request. It happens time to time that 4 specific keys, once pressed, are repeating themselves until I press another one. Such as the 'Key pressed' event is recorded but not the 'key release' event. It concerns keys [6][7][n][m], and it is not always the case. It give a text like "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" or "66666666666". It happened maybe 10 times this past week. This behavior can disappear if I close the keyboard and switch the phone to sleep, but not always. I have the stock android, with last update.2 points

If I'm understanding what you are saying... your DMD request would have been denied, and, yes, the SIM card (and account) would have needed to be provisioned for VoLTE.2 points
-
Oh, if it were only that easy! A request to put a block of IMEIs into the DMD database needs to be requested by the manufacturer of the device, and that's only after they have a signed contract with Verizon saying they will pay for the necessary hardware testing to verify compatibility on/with the CDMA network. Should the device pass all of Verizon's requirements and tests (and the manufacturer is financially current), the DMD request will then be accepted, reviewed, and processed. It is possible to submit a request for a single IMEI, but it's only taken seriously if the device has already2 points

In Germany we call them Teledoof (Tele-dumb) or Telekomiker (Tele-comedian). While they probably got the best network, their support sucks big times.2 points

So I finally took some pictures of the holder and wireless charging pad I'm using. There are thinner and smaller wireless pads available. But I already have this one, so I haven't bothered yet looking for a smaller/thinner one. If I had a bumper, I would definitely keep it on there. That's how I used it on my Sony XZs. I don't really need the physical port. The pictures show it works just fine. Both holder and pad are from Baseus. The holder has a sensor but also operates on touch. I'm stil contemplating on how to provide power via the air duct, so the cable isn't visible anymore. The wire2 points

You are right about this and I fully agree with the influenza comparison. But this doesn't change the fact that the factory is closed.2 points

I do not expect to here anything on the subject before general availability of the device. If a Scandic mat was available and easily user replaceable I would also buy some of them. But as I understand it, the keyboard is the only thing glued on, needing a heat gun. So not super user-replaceable, and I assume swapping it our selves would void the warranty... (Though I bought a heat gun for the purpose already....)2 points

Ah yes, the claim and then if challenged the other person should just google it themselves, and with an implication that that other person isn't that smart with a passive aggressive tone. Language changes by the way, and there's no reason to believe it's currently sexist.2 points

@david I'd like to explain Germany when it comes to politics and european rules. If we are lucky, they will indeed be implemented in time. In this case, since the frequencies weren't used before, it's easy to do. But then comes the usage. In Germany, frequencies are sold when new technology is introduced (I guess that's the same everywhere). The last auction had the previously named frequencies, 3-4GHz and I think 6-12GHz. Higher frequencies could be sold later, I haven't read anything about a MHz range (although that doesn't mean that it couldn't come). The EU goal meanwhile is2 points

I would, but I have the distinct honor of having serial number #999, which I quite like, and thus may want to show it off at some point. Unless all the labels say 999, in which case 😕2 points

First of all, thanks to everyone for this post (and especially the quoted block from @windraver)! Long time lurker, first time poster 😁 I managed to get my Pro1 up and running on Verizon, bringing my SIM over from a Galaxy S10. When I initially inserted my SIM, I had no data connectivity. To get data working I did the: *#*#4636#*#* + enabling all toggles on Phone 1 + setting to LTE Only I'm trying to better understand the difference between what I've done, and what @cfeltych got done at the Verizon store. @cfeltych: did you or the Verizon agent do the step above? If not, maybe folks can2 points

Hey, if Veri$on employees start using the clack, maybe it will get supported officially! Well, I can dream LOL. But another clack sold is another brick in the future of clacks! Yay!2 points

I live out in the country in an area with a lot of hills. The Pro 1 has held a solid signal no matter where I've taken it. I even get a ghost of a signal in "farmer Faraday cages," AKA windowless metal pole buildings. Voice call quality is excellent, and using speedtest.net I'm getting 30-40 Mb down/10 Mb up consistently. In rural areas around here Verizon has repeaters set up every two or three miles that my S5 could never use. The Pro 1 finds them all. Now all I need is a stable Lineage build...2 points

I completely agree. However, there are times where I see it as just fine to return a product that didn't work for me in an application I was testing as long as (1) it is in perfect condition and able to be resold, and (2) I pay for the return shipping. Furthermore, I also don't ask for a refund of the original shipping out to me as it isn't the merchant's fault, or responsibility, to absorb the outbound shipping cost so I can test an item at his/her expense.2 points

I tend to ask my phone what time it is when I wake up in the morning, and I haven't been able to do that with the Pro1; Google Assistant voice commands don't work if my Pro1's screen is off. If I press the power button to turn the screen on then it responds to "hey google" from the lock screen (as I would expect it to). But if the screen is off, I do not get any response. Is this a known issue? Is anyone else having this problem? Are there any fixes?1 point

I can add that holding down the function arrow while typing space does cause a space to be correctly entered into Sheets. Very odd bug.1 point

I have a Pixel 4 with stock android (although it's 10, not Pie, so major OS upgrade might change things) - doesn't reproduce with both BT and USB keyboard. Thanks for the tip about SwiftKey, that kind of points into direction of Gboard being at fault... except that Gboard on Pro1 and Pixel 4 mentioned above have identical version IDs1 point

For me, I haven't experienced problems with voice calls even in hands-free mode (despite of loud minimal level of volume in normal mode). However, I have tried some software phones and I had problems in some of them. So the integrated SIP client and MizuDroid had distorted audio while Linphone works absolutely well (no sound distortion). I don't know how Facebook Messenger works but it may also have similar distortions like MizuDroid (I don't know, just a guess).1 point

on 1) I've been quite fond of VLC, and it works on the Pro1 too. on 2) You most likely have selected "US qwerty", the odd thing is that you shouldn't! De-select ALL tick-boxes to use stock F(x)tex qwerty. YES it is odd, but if you do it acts as Erik writes above, and the symbol over the numbers then needs the arrow and not Shift. You might want to have a look at the free open source project FinQWERTY that offers an extended keyboard experience over the stock one, not installing any fancy stuff, 'just' offering improved key-mappings. E.g. both the yellow arrow and shifts give access1 point

Thanks ! I'll try swiftkey. EDIT: swiftkey is the solution, very convenient ! (Even if the google warning is a bit scary: "this app could record all your key type including passwords" ) For the bug, I saw it mainly while using firefox and whatsapp, didn't try chrome in fact.1 point

I think I am going to go hit the local Fry's. The one thing they continue to have in stock is phone cases, and they let you take them out of the package and try them. I'll report back if there is any success or any "Don't" models.1 point

I tried, and can confirm my deduction from what people told me they heard. Held to the ear I hear zero problems. But hands free there indeed ARE issues. To my experiments it seems like a matter of a minimum LEVEL of the incoming sound to the microphone. If I speak clearly like I would naturally do outdoors or to a meeting it gets through just fine, but if I lower my voice (including mumbling), it is cut away, though not immediately, but sort of faded out. A guess could be that it is the algorithm that is meant to filter out background noise that needs to have its bottom level r1 point

So you did do some research and now believe it could have been sexist at some point but is not anymore. What's pretty clear to me is that it's a word used by a lot of people, hopefully in good faith, not realising where it comes from. Sorry that you feel that way. It's just that this is wildly off topic on that forum and thread. On top of that, I don't come here to try and save the world from rampant sexism and I have no doubt that if I did, I would fail at it, miserably. 😁 Let's agree to disagree, that's just fine, truly. 🙂1 point

I am also very happy with my QWERTZ unit running FinQWERTY (Finnish). There are only few buttons that needs to be swapped by software. Y<->Z, Ü->Å, ß->+ +->' Personally, I wouldn't have changed + character by software at all but current layout is fine. However, some of my friends are waiting for information about Scandic. Would be good to share if Scandic is still in the pipeline or should people just buy QWERTZ and use FinQwerty. I would definitely buy a spare part Scandic layout mat to myself and maybe considering selling current unit to buy Scandi1 point

Is there any plans for updating security level? F(x)tec previously said that they are committed to bring security update every 90 days (same as other Android One devices). I would like to have critical bugs fixed (like keyboard driver) and security level updated before new features.1 point

I took my previous phone, a Samsung Galaxy S5, and my Pro 1 in to the local Verizon contract store. The S5 had the oldest SIM card they'd ever seen, and they figured it had just been moved from my Milestone to my Droid 4 and then to the Samsung but never replaced. They popped a new SIM into the S5, activated it and enabled VoLTE. Verified calling, sms, and mms worked. They then swapped the SIM into the Pro 1, set the network type to Global, and it immediately registered on the network. A little more tweaking from their end, and calls, sms, mms, hotspot, and everything were working per1 point

I put a matte screen protector on my devices these days. I don't care about the protective qualities, but the matte finish stops the screen turning into a smudgy mess and eliminates glare.1 point

I made a leather pouch for the Pro1. I used cow leather, thickness about 2 mm. All the parts are glued with super glue gel adhesive which remains flexible. I made some holes to see the led and to get stereo sound! There is no flap for closing, just a gap that opens to let the device in and out. see pictures for the details. If you want to try something similar, make sure that the inner part is about 1 mm wider than the phone to ensure it’s easy to slide it out.1 point

Aha, I just tried my last idea: reboot. I needed a reboot to get the sdcard recognized. Strange but working.1 point

Definitively. I have used Pro1 for this purpose and it worked perfectly (having a non-shifted physical QWERTZ layout anyway using standard QWERTY layout). [I am currently waiting for my pre-order having IGG coupon to arrive but I have bought another one so I can use it since the very end of last year.] I have tried to do similar things on my Moto G6 software keyboard and it was really inconvenient so I have almost never used it to do such things as it is extremely inconvenient. So with Pro1, I am having similar feelings I had with my N900 earlier but it is even better. 🙂1 point

Verizon is a US CDMA carrier. They only use SIM cards for their 4G LTE network as they were forced into it by the standard. The SIM card isn't a typical SIM card like what you are used to, it has very little subscriber data. They use the phone's IMEI (and MEID, which is typically the same as the IMEI minus the check digit) for device activation and all CDMA calls (2G voice, 3G Voice, and 3G data). The SIM is only for data over their LTE network. If it's a VoLTE phone (and the SIM is compatible, and activated for use on the mule if used) then that should also work for voice calls (assuming1 point

This makes sense and I am betting on the same horse. I'd also definitely rather not see Adups on my phone, but it may be a stopgap solution to get to the next OTA update as stated, and it isn't really clear whether Adups does espionage or whether that just happens via the Adups software on certain phones and not others (what I can find to read about it is blur and confusion). To be safe completely one would want all the software on the phone to be audited and compiled by a trusted entity but that is alas not practical in the current world... Don't know if there exists a middle ground w1 point
-
From further reading, it seems Adups actually continued to spy after being caught, they just did a bit more discretely. They should probably change their keyboards, those typos are quite problematic. I really hope there's a better defense to installing spywares/backdoors than this. I am not familiar with Android, is FOTA support required, or is it just a convenience to not have to plug your device into a computer so that it updates?1 point
-
From what I've found on the internet, this is made by a company who was caught a few years ago on a serious case of spying on its users, they defended themselves by saying those spying functionalities where enabled "by mistake" (you know, they likely typo'd all that spying stuff into their software, it happens...) and that next versions do not do that spying stuff. It's software that intended to automatically update over the air. The fact that the company survived this blunder baffles me. That's basically a remote root access to your device for update & software management purposes, r1 point
