  1. I've seen it reported that the Pro1 doesn't come with its own recovery. There is a standard recovery included with the phone's firmware. I think there may have been some confusion due to the way you need to access recovery mode. To access recovery mode, you have to either: A) Hold down the volume up when you boot the phone (before the logo screen comes up) or B) Use "adb reboot recovery" from a connected computer or C) Boot into the bootloader (by holding down the volume down when you boot the phone (before the logo screen comes up) O

It's such fun :D

  3. Basically it's a standard Qualcomm device. Meaning that data is encrypted and this cannot be disabled. The method of encryption varies: stock uses FDE while my lineage ROM uses FBE. There is currently no TWRP that can decrypt data but it's on my todo list. If you mean a locked boot loader, yes it comes locked by default, and can be unlocked. However, being a device aimed at hobbyists, FxTec chose to disable Secure Boot. Which basically means that you cannot force your device to only run OEM signed code -- it will always allow you to flash a custom ROM

  4. FYI... for those following this thread: The Linux and Windows tools have been updated and now flash xbl properly. This has been verified with real bricked devices (no shortage of those recently!) I'll try to update the MacOS version within a day or two. I asked the Sailfish developers to please remove the option to flash internal storage partitions. They had no idea so many people were doing this, and said they would fix it soon. That's great, but why didn't they know? Did nobody file a bug report or anything after bricking their device?!?

  5. Here's the details from android source (emphasis added): https://source.android.com/devices/input/key-character-map-files ALPHA: A keyboard with all the letters, and maybe some numbers. An alphabetic keyboard supports text entry directly but may have a condensed layout with a small form factor. In contrast to a FULL keyboard, some symbols may only be accessible using special on-screen character pickers. In addition, to improve typing speed and accuracy, the framework provides special affordances for alphabetic keyboards such as auto-capitalization and toggled /

  6. Finqwerty is not an 'active' app. It 'just' presents the system with some alternative pre-fabricated .kcm keymaps, and lets the system do all the active work. The KeyMapper is installed as a keyboard driver, that is an active app, and let you map things one by one. Nice versatility, but quite a bit of work to set up fully. I do not know if the setups can be exported and edited in an editor and reimported though - that could help. (Unless I'm mistaken the keymapper only handles individual keys not combinations, but i could be wrong) KeyMapper requires a LOT of high privileges, so

  7. Sure, it seems silly to me also. But that's the way the keyboard is printed. I would map the fn keys to something else but they are required to generate '/' and '?'. But the beauty of the new keyboard driver is that you can remap all the keys. The gpio keys aren't remappable yet but I'd like to make them remappable before I finish.

  9. Perfect! It took some time to configure it the way I want, but it solved for almost everything. It took me a while to get "i" to auto cap. I had to enable autocorrect by tapping on that icon. It can be a bit odd about learning some shorthand capitalization I use with a friend, but I seem to be able to get it to work eventually, if I keep trying. The only 3 things it doesn't have for the physical keyboard settings are: - No double space to insert a period. That setting is only in the generic settings, not in the physical keyboard settings. - When you type punctuation, it inserts

  10. Even if the card was too big/wrong format/wrong block size (etc) I think it would at least know that an SD card had been inserted. My phone isn't even detecting that there's an SD card in place.

  13. Please note that this is NOT the straight apostrophe, it is the backwards slanted one (apostrophe not accent!), printed left of Q, My English isn't good enough to even know where I could (or should?) use a slanted apostrophe over a straight one. Please tell me where it is used. (see also this) And the Alt functions are Stock Android afaik...

  15. This is in the splash partition. It's a BMP file with a custom header prepended. I don't know the header format off the top of my head though. Feel free to play with it, it's a rather easy customization. Also please note the "powered by Android" text, including font, size and color, is mandated by Google for play store certification. There is no use requesting that FxTec change it.

  17. Never uses PTP either, but it CAN make sense if you want to show images on some computer you are not 100% happy connecting to. As the PC is not supposed to be able to access other than the photostuff. (the pc can still copy/delete/modify those, but should not be able to do it outside the picture folders)

  18. I tried some testing without much success with Light Flow a couple days ago. I didn't do a lot of testing, because I got sidetracked with a bug where gmail notifications won't come through in a timely manner and that is what I was using to test notifications. Turns out google changed something on purpose to not make gmail notifications be timely. They say that email is something that doesn't need to be dealt with on in a timely manner. Now, either they are covering up for their mistake, or it is yet another case of google thinking they know what we want, when they clearly don't. The way a

  20. I agree that they went a little bit TOO "stock android" there. As the keyboard is THE main feature of a Pro1, I did expect a more polished Keyboard software. But this is all software, so it is just my lack of patience, and at the least we got workarounds for most of the keyboard issues with FinQwerty and Swiftkey until OTA gives a better experience stock.

  21. I totally agree on that. I think at this point I am going to wait for @EskeRahn to have a EUREKA! moment and then just buy whatever he recommends. My goal is to wait until I find something that needs zero mods and just go with the cheapest option until then.

  24. I'm absolutely not blaming Fxtec, they've done great job with this device. Yes, I was talking about backup the whole /data partition. In my my case, when I flash clean system.img and boot yhe phone, it asking me for password and I never set any -"deafault_password" also doesn't work. So I have to start setting up my phone from scratch. Besides backups, it will be very good to have abillity to flash and get access to /vendor partition (it is impossible to mount it rw from android). I've unlocked bootloader and disable Secure Boot. And I'm very thankfull Fxtec choose to let users do th

  25. I'm only vaguely repeating some stuff I read sometime elsewhere... but no, it saves them in the normal place apps use, but the actual app itself is using some api to get those loaded without requiring root. But there is an actual app that runs at bootup or something that loads them, they're not stored in system like the normal ones.

  26. I think the FinQwerty solution for this is quite good, You only move the slanted apostrophe, and that frees the key for / and ?, So almost everything is left unchanged. That is what I would suggest as a default for the Qwerty in Lineage, really close to the print, and yet useful:

  27. Do FinQwerty and KeyMapper serve the same purpose? I haven't installed either, just curious. Is the difference that FinQwerty replaces keyboard map files with prebuilt ones or user created (created outside the app), and KeyMapper is modifying the files while you are in the app? Or does KeyMapper not modify files at all, and is just intercepting keystrokes?

  28. I don't have the Pro1 yet, but I'm looking forward on playing Age of Empires with it. It worked fine but relatively slow on other keyboard sliders (Moto Droid 4, Photon Q), so it should really be much fun. Otherwise I don't really play games on the phone anymore since they are bloated with ads or purchase options (pay to progress). I'd prefer to pay 20-60€ and have a game to play instead of having to pay unlimited amounts of money to get realistic progress. The only exceptions were Exiled Kingdoms and Andor's Trail, both RPG games. Lastly, I'll try Terraria on Android and Starbo

  30. no luck so far, EskeRahn, though thank you for your suggestion. i run Light Manager 2 in 'normal' and in 'alternating' mode, wait for seconds and seconds, without any lack, no LED activity whatsoever. only the 'screen mode' works, on the OLED obviously. but i also observed that the app doesn't show anymore its transparent three-ring logo/icon at the left top, for whatever reason... does that mean something ? CORRECTION : green light (associated with missed calls) works - but not for any of the other services nor colors...even when i set a service' color to green for example...

  31. We did it in exactly the same application but not on a system status but an application - so selected a colour, clicked on test, then on OK, turned the screen off and... It works perfectly with my phone but not with his phone - side by side each other... Does "System status" change anything related to its test function? I thought "AMOLED" as a suspicious application, but disabling did not help, removing it did not help and I could install it while notification app still working (when display is not active, but it can be configured). So this app did not work with his phone e

  32. We have seen that SOME apps controls the LED correctly, though not ALL apps. The link in the initial post of this thread works. Try this after install in the app Select the three bars and System Status, Select (e.g.) Aeroplane Mode Select a colour Select Test Click OK Click Power off, and wait a few second It should start pulsating in the selected colour.

  33. If he has root you can try if the LEDs work from terminal, first make sure you are root by running 'su' and then: echo 255 > /sys/class/leds/red/brightness To turn the LED fully red, change red to blue and green in the path to set brightness of other colors. Values for brightness are between 0 and 255, you can echo 0 to all 3 colors to turn the LED off. If that works for all colors at least you can know it is not a hardware problem.

  34. My friend having trouble using notification light on his Pro1. I have told him to install a program like "Light Manager 2" but it does not work for him. When charging, red light works. When charged, green light also works... ...but none of the settings of Light Manager 2 works - even "testing" of specific light has no effect. I have told him to try Textra which also has notification setting, but it also did not work. As far as I know, he tried another notification app without any effect. We have cleared cache, removed application, restarted phone, reinstalled applicatio

  37. We could easily get too many stickies, so people drown in them. But you are right this is important. Maybe we should have a thread over in the new "How Tos" group, on how to take best care of the Pro1. One could copy the main stuff and then link to the existing threads perhaps? It could be on the battery, on the screen protector (I think there is a rather recent thread advising how to apply without bubbles), perhaps cases, for those into that stuff. The thread could also be expanded to a "How to get the most out of your Pro1" or similar, that also pointed to (IMHO vital) stuff lake F
