It would be if the software development were based in a place without COVID19, but unfortunately idealte is in China (AFAIK), and china have not had a tradition for even IT-people to work from home. So most likely things are not set up allowing that. It would require a VPN setup, and a company sponsored computer per person, and if they not already got that, it will be hard to get that too now, even if the budget for that was accceptable.4 points

Another recently added feature not yet in stock - working sound! The audio crackle is now gone. So combined with the previous keyboard fixes, games are now far more enjoyable. Only a couple more bugs to squash, and LIneage will leave the testing stage and become official.3 points

You might want to consider trying LineageOS, @tdm has implemented a slider to stop this very issue. There are also numerous other reasons to use Lineage, but I'll digress and just mention this one here.3 points

You are absolutely right, home office might not be a possibility. Even though the computer could be just a laptop, but that too could be a problem. If some other family member already use the flat during the day-time. As an example take the classic stereotype of the wife using the flat for some textile business in day time. And even if the flat is spacious enough, the internet connections available might be of a quality/price preventing a VPN connection from being a viable solution.3 points

It could be a while until the server gets back online so here is the latest version of FxService: app-FxService-release-v0.4.0.apk3 points

@Erik I think everybody should unterstand, that the delay because of corona isn't the fault of fxtec and unswayable. BUT isn't this a good possibility for solving all these software problems during home office while waiting for china and the restart of production? So that the rest of the pre-order customers will receive a device whithout or much less software bugs? I am sure this will be a good strategy to sell more devices ...3 points

As a longtime physical keyboard lover I waited with a lot of anticipation for the Pro1. And waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, January 2020, when the $650 I spent on the phone seemed the most ridiculous, the phone arrived. Nevertheless, I was excited and immediately unboxed. Right away I had such a miserable and frustrating time applying the screen protector. Never had such a pain with other phones but no matter what I did countless bubbles and dust particles made the final product look like total crap. The whole sheet ended up crumpled in a mess in the garbage can. This would set2 points

Here an example with some allegedly 0.5mm thin rubber strips from here suitably cut I placed two 'long' strips (5x65mm) at each end, and two minor pieces, one next to the space bar under the screen (3x17mm), and one on the opposite long edge side (7x17mm).2 points

Just a hint. IF our mail-server's certificate is not correct we can select to accept this BUT if we import settings, we are not presented with this option, we have to go to both incoming and outgoing server on each mailbox affected, and click connect... Only then will we be presented with the dialogue to accept... (it is a K9-bug)2 points

I have used K-9 bot on stock and LOS and haven't had any connection problems. Works flawlessly on my device.2 points

Yep and depending on which cities, people would need a flat with enough space for a pc too.... Well this may be an exaggeration and most IT personal should be able to pay for a more or less decent flat (Not that I know I am guessing). But to assume just anyone can do home office without any problem is naive.2 points

I can confirm crackling audio is gone on dialpad tones :)2 points

Lineage by default will not. Folks typically use magisk for this.2 points

Got the FM radio fixed (listening to it now). Will push that up and do a new build soon. If anyone is interested in details... The first problem is that the AOSP "FMRadio" package is broken and not used, there is a QCOM "FM2" package that is used instead. I've noted this before. Second, there are some libraries that must be specified to be built which I was missing. Thirdly, there is a library that seems to be in the open source code but explicitly set to not build without the BSP for some reason so that needs to go into the proprietary blob list. Fourthly, was mis2 points

I just want to say that I laugh every time I see the title of this thread. The struggle is real but we are the chosen, poised to inherit the physical keyboard and carry the torch into the new millenium of VR and smartwatches.2 points

On the odd occasion I've experienced the auto rotate getting stuck when the keyboard is closed. This sometimes happens after I've used certain apps (Firefox being one of them) and also when I've changed the wallpaper. Anyone else experienced this at all?1 point

Thanks to tdm, mccreary, and everyone who has contributed to aosp, cyanogenmod, and lineage OS, as of test6 we now have keyboard shortcuts, referred to as Bookmarks. Since the lineage thread is getting long and too many topics, thought it might be worth starting a thread to share this info. The Fxtec logo key (Fx, now assigned as Meta) in combination with various keys will perform certain functions and with letters open certain types of apps. The first time you use it, it'll let you choose which app to set as default. Here's the App Bookmarks I've found to work: Add (Calculat1 point

Since many phones were sold with forum threads, I'll try it like that as well. I'd like to buy a Pro1 Qwertz edition. For security reasons and no fees I'd prefer to buy it with meeting in person, so if you happen to be from south Germany, Austria or Switzerland, that would be great (I'm from Munic). Otherwise, ebay with Paypal would be the way to go. Tiny scratches shouldn't be a problem, I don't care about packaging or the earbuds. Another option would be to pass my preorder made in september to you or (if not possible) send you the new device as soon as it gets deliver1 point

Correct request. I hope F(x)tec will catch up production relatively soon and you will receive your product in the near future or at least you can find someone who don't need it or willing to wait a bit longer for a more polished software or any other reason. For me, I am really happy with my QWERTZ Pro1 what I use and I would personally buy it again so I hope you will also enjoy your Pro1 soon.1 point

Mine has got quieter over time. At first it was almost jumping out of my hand and making a loud clack when operating the screen. I can pretty much open it silently now.1 point

Seems to be OK now. I just left it polling away while it was on charge (damn thing was draining the battery too.1 point

Based on even what we have here in the USA, assuming they need to vpn to a server or set of servers, the proper security protocols to allow this may never have been set up if working from home wasn't common before this.1 point

In the "Custom restrictions" menu there are notification options when the screen is off and when the screen in on. However, in LineageOS they don't appear to work. Or at least don't appear to behave as they did in the stock ROM. For instance, if I select "Don't turn on screen" under "When the screen is off," it still turns on the screen when a notification event happens (such as an incoming text message). For the time being I don't have removed all security locks (fingerprint, pin, pattern, etc.) and am just using a simple swipe. However, this means that when an incoming text arrives the1 point

It took me some getting used to the keyboard, since it is (a) bigger than I'm used to, and (b) has an extra column between A and Caps, so I would initially always hit \ when I meant A. I've mostly gotten used to those, and can now type pretty quickly on the keyboard. The thing that I have not figured out a good solution for is opening the keyboard with the curved screen. It is extremely difficult to both lift up top (when landscape) of the screen (because the curved screen is slippery and significantly reduces the amount of area to grip) and push the bottom without triggering items on the1 point

When we request a device for service, we typically expect it to be sent within a week. In this scenario, we waited 1+ months for it to be sent in for service alone as far as I know.1 point

We are very sorry for the issues caused. After some investigation we have found the reason, it was due to the upgrade of security patch to October which needs to be approved from the authority before it was released, which caused CTS to fail. Also there is no way to downgrade security patch via OTA (the user data will be wiped if doing this way.) Therefore the current workaround / work is: - We are acquiring the latest security patch (Feb 2020) and will submit for approval before the next OTA. Therefore once the next OTA with latest security patch applied, and appro1 point

I am indeed following @EskeRahn's advice and using an old charger from my HTC Touch Pro2 or my laptop. So hopefully it will last for years 😁1 point

Nothing of the sort! Just saying that YES it has a learning curve, and YES it is worth learning. And as many other things once learned, it is easy. Nothing more, nothing less.... I even offered suggestions on alternative (though somewhat odd) ways to open it with practically zero learning curve. I personally can not play a violin, but I do not blame the violin-design for that, and I find it quite silly if people do....1 point

You are aware that none of the one you mention have a similar mechanism, right? They deliberately chose this superior mechanism (previously used in several Nokia-models), despite that it unfortunately do have a learning curve. You just haven't learned to master it yet. Usually beginners also get angry at their bicycle until they master it, but once we do, we can not imagine how it was ever difficult. You could compare the ones you list with tricycles that everyone can operate (almost) immediately, and the mechanism on the Pro1 with a bicycle.1 point

That could be an argument that bicycles should have three (or more wheels) as two-wheeled are hard to operate in the beginning. 😜1 point

Opening with no clack is pretty easy on mine. Instead of stating from the front, I lift the back slightly and just push up with my thumb, guiding the screen into place rather than just letting it fly. It also requires the back fingers to slide down the back of the screen as you open it. A little slower, but easy to do if you need to open it quietly.1 point

So clearly something is odd with the way it processes rotation information, perhaps a bug in the magic added for the keyboard slider. I'm certain that it's all in software and will be resolved in time.1 point
-
I see this too, I can easily reproduce it: Place it vertically at an edge on a desk, Tilt it SLOWLY to flat. Wait a bit. Lift slowly back to vertical resting on an edge. To fix: Just start a program like e.g. AndroSensor that IGNORES the phone's auto-rotate setting, and rotate the device.1 point

Lucky me. I was adding water to my fish tanks, and when I lifted the 5 gallon bucket of dechlorinated water, it caught my phone holster, dropping it directly inside. I swiped it onto the couch before it even sank, then ripped it out of the holster. Of course, this caused me to hit the wake button; I saw the screen flash. Gripping the phone by the corners at the charge port end, I snapped it like a whip until the droplets stopped. To no avail, it is unresponsive. I've put it in a baggie of rice, in my oven heated to about 110F. I have little hope to see it work again. It was good while it laste0 points

Of course I'm aware of that. The mechanism chosen is not superior. The superior one is the one that works really well with zero problems and doesn't cause loads of complaints from users. Your bicycle metaphor is condescending. Please don't belittle people for having a different view. The Desire Z did have a hinge mechanism by the way, it just wasn't a problem because it was well implemented.0 points

My biggest disappointment is the keyboard itself. Typing on it is just so damn hard. It feels like one or those dreams where you want to run but just can't.. It's that frustrating to me. I was so looking forward to having a phone with a keyboard again but in practice I hardly use it. And I hate onscreen keyboards so go figure. Sigh... I remember the old days like it was yesterday. My HTC Wizard back in 2005 was my closest buddy back then. I just totally loved the simple keyboard slider and how fast I could type on it. But the Pro1 keys are so hard to press. It's really a struggle to go fr0 points
