He lost me with: (By the way, that's "horizontal slider") On the hinge... it takes a bit of training to finally get it, but you will, and once you do you will be grateful because the reason it is initially so hard to do is because a) the hinge is very strong and b)there is absolutely no wobble or looseness in the hinge. This is an industrial strength hinge that isn't going to wear out. I now can open it one handed. I love the hinge!!!!! Let me assure you that the Android Authority review does not get it It's not perfect (what is), but F(x) Tec get most everything that

Discussion and testing on features and known&potential issues
Hook replied to rejujacob's topic in Bug Reports
Ran into the non-responding keyboard. Restart solved it. I'm only bringing it up to point out that, having been spending a week putting the Pro 1 through it's paces and hitting this only once makes it a *very* infrequent issue, which means it's going to be damn hard to figure out. Have I mentioned what an amazing, premium phone this is. Nothing wrong with an 835 SOC, that's for sure! -
The Playstore has often refused to download Netflix when I have had devices with bootloader unlocked, rooted and an alternnate ROM. I don't know which or what combination of those sets it off since I always had all three conditions, though I now suspect it's bootloader unlocked since I am not rooted. Netflix is not supposed to work with rooted devices I believe. I have found inconsistent results on that. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't work when I'm rooted, I find an older version of the apk I have kept archived works. It may be that using Magisk, when I get there

Just be aware those instructions for enabling Unknown Sources don't apply anymore. Just download the apk. It will ask you to enable Unknown Sources for the specific app doing the installation. It is no longer a global setting. 🙂
-
That means your bootloader is unlocked (or you are rooted). Safteynet won't offer it to you. I simply obtained an apk from a reliable source. It works fine. APK mirror has it.

Don't abandon the forum. Just abandon this thread (if you click on Eric's profile, you see just his contributions to this thread 😉 ).

Unfortunately, the Alt up/down is inconsistent. It behaves that way in to the text editor built into Explore (non-rooted version of Root Explorer) but doesn't in the text editor built into X-plore. However, I am usually using full document editors like Textmaker and jotterpad, and they don't seem to recognize Alt up/down. A pity. I'll see if I can get something likr the button remapper app to help with it, but I suspect the problem is at the app level.

Apparently I must not be familiar with some aspect of standard navigation in Android. Can you give me examples or point me to what I am missing? I'm sure I'm being an idiot here, but I don't know how to get what I want with this keyboard.

If you haven't done much with the phone yet, try a factory reset. But first, did you try restarting the phone after the last update (shouldn't be necessary, but...)

One thing I'd like to see, since I do a lot of document/manuscript/large text file editing is to add the equivalents to PgUP, PgDn, Go to top of document, Go to bottom of document. Seems to me this could be accomplished by using, say, Ctrl or Alt with the up and down arrows. Already Ctrl-left arrow and CTRL-right arrow can be used to jump a word. So I'd like to see something like (doesn't have to be these exact combinations: ALt-right arrow - Jump to end of line Alt-left arrow - jump to beginning of line Ctrl-up arrow - Jump to top of file Ctrl-down arrow - Jump to end o

Yeah, now that I understand the two step, I have finally been able to start doing it one handed (on a surface, lol). Getting much easier now. (until tomorrow morning when I have to relearn it again. 😄 )

I was a little oversimplifying with my previous description and I suspect I am doing what you describe here. What I experience it as is that when I give a quick push with my thumbs, the screen travels a very short distance, my fingers grip the rear causing the rear of the screen to ride up on the fingers. Then without lifting the back any more (I find it fights you if you try to do that) a second harder push from the front snaps the screen back and into place behind the keyboard. The first few times it's really clumsy and awkward, but pretty soon it's a quick and simple two-step. Then a

I have found it really helpful on opening the keyboard to grip it completely on the left half, one thumb near the left edge and one thumb in the middle. It allows me to provide more force without firing off the camera and I'm just more confident with it. I never ever used or trusted autobrightness on Android. I am quite capable of adjusting my own appropriate brightness and is almost always a lower setting than autobrightness. I tend to distrust anything in Android whose function name starts with "auto" 😄 Also, I forgot to comment above, the screen does very well in direct sun as

Great review, @zurvan2 I agree pretty much with everything. This is by far the best Android phone I have ever owned (previously a title held by my Nexus 5 which I had 4 years). Although I felt this way long before I had a Pro 1 to hold in my hands, I just shake my head at people saying that the phones specs are aging. The phone has exactly what it needs to create a completely premium experience. On the fingerprint sensor, I just find it difficult, but not a problem as I prefer no to use it. In fact, I have my lockscreen set to swipe. I also plan to carry it without a case. Despi

Apps that works great with a real keyboard and in landscape
Hook replied to EskeRahn's topic in General Discussion
I just tested this using Nova Launcher and the DejaOffice Month view widget. I have the widget on it's own homescreen page filling the entire screen in Portrait (sorry, no screen shot-- too lazy to blur my calendar) and it rotates into landscape just fine filling that screen as well (and, like many things, is more readable in landscape). -

If I touch that gray bar at the bottom of your screen and push up with my finger, it scrolls up to reveal the color palatte. -

I have no trouble (in landscape) going to background color in the app drawer settings and scrolling down to see the whole color palatte and even opening the advanced item at the bottom. I just had to scroll with my finger. Or did I misunderstand what you had problems with scrolling. -
Yes and no. I think for the most part, the Pro 1 does work right out of the box. There are some bugs being picked up in the software, but that's to be expected even with big companies, especially when the users are so tech savvy (the ones finding the bugs). As for getting US telco stuff right, small companies and international phones have always had trouble with that because, frankly, you can never do all the testing required. The big boys like Samsung, Apple and Google have the clout to work directly with the big Telcos and get their phones to all the big telcos and have the right se

Odd that it should be grayed out on yours but was fine on mine. Is it the phone or the SIM? (Again, my understanding of all this is pretty slim). Do you have the 10 DEC OTA?

I know @zurvan2 isn't using TWRP, but I'm wondering if the problem he ran into isn't some version to this old problem (I ran into it flashing my old Nexus 6p). I don't know-- I'm not that deeply technical, but it sounds like a similar result. https://www.howtogeek.com/240657/how-to-fix-pin-errors-after-restoring-from-twrp-android-backups/

Apps that works great with a real keyboard and in landscape
Hook replied to EskeRahn's topic in General Discussion
Aw, cmon, let us know how you really feel. 😄 I think a better feature for all launchers would be separate grid controls for portrait and landscape. I admit that I need to play more with widgets where I may run into problems that will send me back to Quickstep. I just don't like not being able to free place my widgets. You can see it in my screenshots by looking at what happens to the clock widget (but, hey, it's in the middle of the screen 😂) and the changes in the spacing between icons. But I also like that I can control the size of icons and get a 7 icon launcher bar. We'll -
Apps that works great with a real keyboard and in landscape
Hook replied to EskeRahn's topic in General Discussion
I've switched from the Pro 1s native launcher (called Quickstep) to Nova launcher, which I have used for years and enjoy it's greater feature set. For now I'm not going to use the assigning keys to apps as I use a lot of input ready apps that end up with letters being printed from the held down key. If they fix that later, I will look at that feature again. Also, Quickstep organizes the homescreens into two columns which prevents you from placing widgets in the center (or at least it did me-- maybe user error). What I wanted to show is that Nova behaves very well jumping from Portrait t -
Not clear to me what network problem you are referring to. All the problems seem to be with US Networks and it is mostly a matter of figuring out what is needed. Verizon has been solved (see the Verizon thread). Sprint seems to have problems, but has not been widely problem-solved and is probably due to their reliance on CDMA. Some are a question of getting the right APNs. This is an old story. US has such ass-backwards telecoms that International phones have never been smooth here, but we are largely getting things solved. It's not the phone.

I don't know if this figures in, but the switch in the slider settings requires shutting the keyboard and reopening it to take effect, which I didn't realize. So if you shut off the backlight, nothing happens. You have to close and reopen the keyboard. Same if you want to turn it back on. That's fine once you figure it out, but I was expecting a toggle setting to take immediate effect.

Ah, now I understand. Sorry, I'm a little slow sometimes. 🙂
