Okay all you qwertz folks, here's a Lineage boot image with my new keyboard driver: files.nwwn.com/android/pro1/boot-newkeyboard.img To use it, flash it to your boot partition, "fastboot flash boot boot-newkeyboard.img". Upon reboot the keyboard will have version 0002 which will make Android ignore the custom keymap file in the vendor partition. You will find the following files: /sys/devices/soc/c17a000.i2c/i2c-6/6-0058/layout This is the layout file. It can contain "qwerty" or "qwertz". So start by setting it to qwertz: echo "qwertz" > /sys/devices/so5 points

I have a dock with HDMI out and two usb ports (Aten US3310), using that one the phone charges while showing HDMI. External mouse and keyboard works fine as well. In portrait mode there are lots of black padding to the left and right of the image on the screen. In landscape there is padding at top and bottom. It would be nice if there was some way to get apps to zoom out when using external monitor so everything is reasonable sized.3 points

I'm getting on ok with my Pro1, even more so after realising split screen mode allows apps that don't co-operate with landscape mode to work on half of the screen when in landscape. However, in other ways it's not as optimal as my Priv Keyword prediction and swiping : this was a huge strength of the Priv. Is there a virtual keyboard that only supplies keyword suggestions when in landscape (keyboard open) mode? I could import the Blackberry keyboard probably, but would rather try other options/pay for an existing product. It would also be lovely to map something to 'delete word to the left2 points

...and a couple of other useful settings adb shell settings put global sms_outgoing_check_max_count 99999 adb shell settings put global sms_outgoing_check_interval_ms 9000 If you don't want to be nagged by Android on sending 'many' base-sms within a short time span. I think the default is 100 in half an hour, so if you are sending a 600 char text with just a single special letter to ten friends - you reach the limit, and are nagged for half an hour2 points

Earlier today I saw mccreary post elsewhere that he updated the GSI test files (same link as in the first post) and if the changes he's been talking about are working, it should be getting pretty good by now.2 points

We really need stickies in this forum for info like this. I only really learned this here myself. Now, if I'm going to charge overnight, I use an older slow charger (or from a PC i leave on overnight). Quick charger is now reserved for when I'm getting ready to go out and see my phone isn't full enough, as it can add a lot of charge real quick.2 points

Thank you, so much! (Receiving an award) I'd like to thank my manager, my parents, all my colleagues and also folks at F(x)tec for making this possible. (Applause and music) ... Who's next? 😉2 points

I've done some more 'research' and there are volume apps which offer separate control of notification volume, and I now tried two (arbitrarily selected "Volume Manager" by ByteHamster and "Volume Control Panel Pro" by LeeDrOiD Apps), but at least with the Moto Z3 Play both the ring volume slider and the notification volume slider move when I move either of them. It seems, though, that there actually are some devices which do not physically combine both, even with Android 9 (see this thread on Reddit which is about a different subject but proves that someone managed to control ring volume and n1 point

It holds the phone firmly. To avoid sliding, it has rubber in 3 places. Both clamps and the back. Those stripes on the holders and stripes on the back are soft ("sticky") rubber.1 point

For me it worked to just reboot and retry a couple times to get to the final update.1 point

Actually, you will have an issue with that setup. You won't be able to type question mark, slash, or £. The layouts included with our phone don't take advantage of Fn(slant arrow) key. If you install finqwerty, it adds a bunch of layouts designed specifically for our phone that will work. Alternatively, if you select NO layout, then shift wont work, but you can get all the yellow symbols with Fn including slash and question mark, but no pound.1 point

I know this sounds stupid but I had a similar issue with mine. I found mine powered off but I don't think it had run out of battery. It would not turn back on and wouldn't take a charge. I warmed the phone up by keeping in an inside shirt pocket and after a while I tried the power button and it came back to life! Hope it helps 🙂1 point

It looks like our warehouse partner Expansys were already notified of the issues with both of your shipments. They are undergoing recovery actions since the 5th of Feb, and I've just chased them. In the worst case, we'll re-ship them using another service from the UK.1 point

It does not say if this is effective from Feb 1st 2020 or from Jan 1st 2021, as far as I can read. But if you follow their link here it clearly says at the very top (my emphasizing): For people not reading Swedish that is: Nohting changes regarding customs this year.1 point

I intentionally left it covered. I hardly ever use the headpone jack and it is usually the first place to fill with crud. I usually fill the hole with a "Pressy" android button. edited 9. in original post1 point

Yes. With my first device. It was, sadly, unfixable. It just kept dropping even though it showed that it was there. Second phone just worked instantly.1 point

all that apk is doing is echoing 1 to /sys/module/snd_soc_wcd934x/parameters/high_performance (as the majority APKs that "enable" things. My quick glance over the state of WCD943x in Linux says that it is still in early stages of support (there are numerous patches across the board), but the chip is indeed quite powerful hardware wise.1 point

Hi, When I power up the device with keyboard opened, screen orientation is not in landscape. Steps: Lock in landscape is already set on keyboard open. Device is powered off Open keyboard Power up Enter Pin Let boot complete Layout will be in portrait Lifting up the device in landscape will change display orientation, but moving it in as portrait will change display in portrait. Close keyboard, device will continue to change display orientation as expected. Open keyboard again, orientation lock is in effect. Build: QX10001 point

Portrait keyboard is fine (yeah, fight me)... it's losing part of the display that's the bigger issue. And besides, a portrait screen with two apps running top/bottom split would've worked great for the Priv, if only it got updated to Nougat to get the said functionality.1 point

I was never in the BB team being a Nokia Communicator user long before they became a thing. Still as I was starved from physical keyboard smartphones I remember considering those Android BBs when they came out and decided not to, square screen and fixed keyboards are just not for me. Still too bad they stop doing it.1 point

@compuguy I agree with @Hook in that the Pro1 supports LTE band 13. I know this not only from the specs but I can see it on my spectrum analyzer connected to cells on my local sites. Also, I'm in DC quite often and I haven't seen any B66 action for T-mobile (not to say that it won't happen), but there is heavy B2, B4, and B12 usage out there. Not certain that B66 will be required, but who knows what they are thinking. As for Verizon, they are typically implementing B66 in rural areas not metropolitan ones (of course, this too, could change).1 point
-
I'm not sure I understand this comment since, according to the specs, the Pro1 does support LTE band 13.1 point
-
Unless the phone gains support for LTE band 13, I seriously doubt this phone will be a good option for someone on Verizon. I could be wrong, but at least in my area (Washington DC area) they are rolling out B66 on towers on T-Mobile.1 point

Yes, the application does report incorrect bands at times, but that's not the issue at hand (with regard to antenna design or how "hot" the receiver is in the Pro1). Even if the app gets the band wrong, the phones won't, and they are clearly in service and seeing various cell sites (and voting to park on one). Every one in view shows a received power that is weaker on the Pro1. Regardless of the band the app is reporting, these numbers wouldn't change (my guess is the band is correct, if I had his rough address I could verify that, but B4 is indeed in use by Verizon in a large part of the c1 point
-
Sorry if I misunderstood that, but wasn't it potentially related to improper band feedback inside that application?1 point
-
I wouldn't jump to this conclusion so quickly. @Pete has pictures of his two phones, they are both in band and the Pro1's received power is significantly less than with the BB. Not by just a little, but by quite a bit (see his dBm readings above).1 point
-
My pleasure. The relationship is purely a logical software one. It reads the RSRP (received power) & RSRQ (received quality) and then converts it to a bar graph and numerical and/or percentage. Simple as that. The Pro1 is being more honest about things, not sure if there is intent to deceive with the BB or not, but it's not even close to being accurate with 4 bars. I don't think lying is the correct phrase to be used with the LTE Discovery app (as lying implies intent), but the app is often incorrect, and most people don't know because they don't really have any other wa1 point

Thanks for the info, Polaris. I was suspicious that the Blackberry may be lying to me about 4 bars. I will say that this photo is the only time they were that close together while I was testing this. Otherwise I would walk around the roof of our building with one phone or the other and these values really wouldn't change much, though the dBm reading on the Blackberry was generally slightly better than the Pro1. I feel like regularly the Pro1 would get up to -99.0 dBm and still only show maybe 1 bar, so I'm still confused about the relationship between bars and phones and dBm. If you'r1 point

I'm going to guess that will be practically impossible. No case will be able to cover the slider mechanism in both opened and closed states, so you'd need something that aligns with the top and bottom to be waterproof enough every time you close it. And then you also need to cover up the speakers and ports, since I don't think those have the same waterproofing magic waterproof phones' speakers do, so a splash on those would probably be bad. I could see a waterproof belt holster being made though.1 point

...Or maybe you confuse a startup with a multi billion company? Please mention me just ONE device principally different from what was on the market, that was released flawless. And yes, do also include if from one of the multi billion giants. If you do not want a device where the software is not polished, you seem to have made a rather naïve choice to pre-order, and not wait to say half a year after general release, to allow for the bugs found to be ironed out.1 point

I agree with @netman after trying any FOSS launcher I could find I stuck with launchtime. It needs some configuring and is not the most beautiful thing ever. But it works mint with the keyboard and is astonishingly good. This is one of these launcher which do not try to copy nova but to have a other/better concept behind. If FOSS is important to you there is alos https://gitlab.com/oldosfan/librechair1 point

We have had this spread in various threads, but perhaps it would be nice to get it gathered. If you ask me none really work super well. The build in has its benefits, but are quite simple. The big ones like Nova, does not really work well with Landscape nor keyboards. Usable, but not really good. But those being used to a specific third party launcher, that supports landscape, could continue to do so. I just use the stock, as the pros outweighs the caveats of its simplicity to me. ADD: I strongly suggest to change the Android setting under Settings, System, G1 point
