  1. I've been working on an app to restore the backlight functionality on LineageOS builds (It will NOT work on stock). It's called KB Backlight Manager. It runs as a foreground service to monitor the system for the slider events and turns the backlight on or off depending on it's state. It also includes a QuickSettings tile so you can easily turn it on or off from there and an option to disable the backlight completely as well as an option to enable/disable the QuickSetting tile. You can get the latest builds over on the Github page for it here: https://github.com/JooJooBee666/KB_Backlight

  3. Well, a full answer to that question would be quite lengthy. The brief overview is that there are different parts of the (cell) radio stack and certain parts are subject to vendor changes while others are not. Generally speaking, Google and Qualcomm rarely agree on things outside basic things in the system and will implement them in different ways. This leads to AOSP hardware support for Qualcomm devices (eg. used in Nexus/Pixel) having one set of code while the Qualcomm BSP code is different. This is most apparent in things like advanced audio (compression, offloading) and the radio stack

  4. Essentially, there is no difference. One needs a mule phone to make this work (see the original pages of this thread) because Verizon won't activate the Pro1 directly. Your mule was the S10 (which I know works, because I did it for a friend with his S10, and I have also used an S8, both work fine -as should just about any other phone that supports VoLTE with a SIM that is also compatible and provisioned for it). That's all that is needed (hardware wise) to get your Pro1 up and running (sans the CDMA network). The only difference between what you did and cfeltych's experience is that he

  6. I noticed that there is a very limited (read - stock) support for dual SIM operation. One would expect at least a couple of functions every other manufacturer implements for dual SIM: 1. ability to assign the SIM to use for a contact (e.g. I use my personal number to communicate with my family and friends, but use my business one for everything else. 2. ability to select the SIM to make call before the call is made (stock option is to have the default SIM for calls defined and a button to switch SIM during the call, which is inconvenient and most of the time expensive. 7. Unbelievable! I'm getting it tomorrow. Assuming it actually arrives, that's 8 days from ordering it to getting it (29th Jan to 4th Feb). If anyone is in the UK (or possibly Europe?) and wants the phone soon, it seems that ordering from Clove is the way to go. I only ordered it on Wednesday 29th Jan. I now have to get my refund back from FxTec... (I have already asked for it, but have only had an autoresponse so far.)

  8. ...Sometimes when printing wears off stickers it leaves an 'inverse' image that can be viewed with certain angles/light sources. Have you tried shining various lights at it and seeing if anything is visible? ...And now I'm glad I removed my sticker and stuck it on the packaging.

  9. Hi there, Don't know if it's the right place. If I may, I have 1 potential bug and a request. It happens time to time that 4 specific keys, once pressed, are repeating themselves until I press another one. Such as the 'Key pressed' event is recorded but not the 'key release' event. It concerns keys [6][7][n][m], and it is not always the case. It give a text like "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm" or "66666666666". It happened maybe 10 times this past week. This behavior can disappear if I close the keyboard and switch the phone to sleep, but not always. I have the stock android, with last update.

  10. If I'm understanding what you are saying... your DMD request would have been denied, and, yes, the SIM card (and account) would have needed to be provisioned for VoLTE.
    2 points
  11. Oh, if it were only that easy! A request to put a block of IMEIs into the DMD database needs to be requested by the manufacturer of the device, and that's only after they have a signed contract with Verizon saying they will pay for the necessary hardware testing to verify compatibility on/with the CDMA network. Should the device pass all of Verizon's requirements and tests (and the manufacturer is financially current), the DMD request will then be accepted, reviewed, and processed. It is possible to submit a request for a single IMEI, but it's only taken seriously if the device has already

  13. So I finally took some pictures of the holder and wireless charging pad I'm using. There are thinner and smaller wireless pads available. But I already have this one, so I haven't bothered yet looking for a smaller/thinner one. If I had a bumper, I would definitely keep it on there. That's how I used it on my Sony XZs. I don't really need the physical port. The pictures show it works just fine. Both holder and pad are from Baseus. The holder has a sensor but also operates on touch. I'm stil contemplating on how to provide power via the air duct, so the cable isn't visible anymore. The wire

  17. I do not expect to here anything on the subject before general availability of the device. If a Scandic mat was available and easily user replaceable I would also buy some of them. But as I understand it, the keyboard is the only thing glued on, needing a heat gun. So not super user-replaceable, and I assume swapping it our selves would void the warranty... (Though I bought a heat gun for the purpose already....)

  19. @david I'd like to explain Germany when it comes to politics and european rules. If we are lucky, they will indeed be implemented in time. In this case, since the frequencies weren't used before, it's easy to do. But then comes the usage. In Germany, frequencies are sold when new technology is introduced (I guess that's the same everywhere). The last auction had the previously named frequencies, 3-4GHz and I think 6-12GHz. Higher frequencies could be sold later, I haven't read anything about a MHz range (although that doesn't mean that it couldn't come). The EU goal meanwhile is

  22. First of all, thanks to everyone for this post (and especially the quoted block from @windraver)! Long time lurker, first time poster 😁 I managed to get my Pro1 up and running on Verizon, bringing my SIM over from a Galaxy S10. When I initially inserted my SIM, I had no data connectivity. To get data working I did the: *#*#4636#*#* + enabling all toggles on Phone 1 + setting to LTE Only I'm trying to better understand the difference between what I've done, and what @cfeltych got done at the Verizon store. @cfeltych: did you or the Verizon agent do the step above? If not, maybe folks can

  24. I live out in the country in an area with a lot of hills. The Pro 1 has held a solid signal no matter where I've taken it. I even get a ghost of a signal in "farmer Faraday cages," AKA windowless metal pole buildings. Voice call quality is excellent, and using speedtest.net I'm getting 30-40 Mb down/10 Mb up consistently. In rural areas around here Verizon has repeaters set up every two or three miles that my S5 could never use. The Pro 1 finds them all. Now all I need is a stable Lineage build...

  25. I completely agree. However, there are times where I see it as just fine to return a product that didn't work for me in an application I was testing as long as (1) it is in perfect condition and able to be resold, and (2) I pay for the return shipping. Furthermore, I also don't ask for a refund of the original shipping out to me as it isn't the merchant's fault, or responsibility, to absorb the outbound shipping cost so I can test an item at his/her expense.

  30. Tried this on my Moto Z with USB keyboard connected, with Gboard as the input method. Works as it should there. Not running Pie though. If you have an adapter lying around and no BT keyboard, try connecting a USB keyboard to the Pro1 and see what happens.

  31. Anyway, I have used my heat gun to perfectly remove the sticker on the back before it is worn out. 🙂 It is a good thing to have if you would like to remove glued parts anyway.

  32. The problem is somehow connected to GBoard. As somebody suggested in the thread, you linked to, I changed soft keyboard to SwiftKey, and now sticky shift and alt (for Polish characters) are working well. Thanks a lot! [edit] I attach files for Polish keyboard layout. One has to root his Pro1, and overwrite /system/usr/keychars/Vendor_181d_Product_5018_Version_0001.kcm Also remember that GBoard won't work well, so I recommend to install SwiftKey keyboard. Polish characters are entered with alt or alt+shift keys. All are sticky! 😄 [edit 2] After a day of use, I

  35. I have similar issues HANDS FREE only, but recording a video is just fine, so not a mic issue as such. So I HOPE it is something they can fix with a software fix. My guess is that it is the noise reduction using the signal from the second mic that is teasing, but have not tried to do explicit testing. If I plug in my earphones with a microphone everything is fine. And the other end is also happy if I hold the phone to the ear...

  36. So the million dollar question then becomes what exactly is it that the stock ROM supports that the LOS ROMs universally ignore that causes this behavior? Obviously workarounds exist, but full functionality is better. Perhaps @tdm can comment on this, but honestly this sounds like a low-priority question, let alone project. If the entire LOS community so far has ignored this aspect of the devices, there's either a licensing issue, driver issue, or apathy issue, which is of course possible since most major networks aren't forcing the issue on VoLTE yet, so it's a whatever. However it is, I imag

  37. Some providers are phasing out support for 2G-3G in the USA. They are cannibalizing the old protocol frequencies to make room for serving more people on the newer protocols. That's too bad. I'm guessing that will reduce 5G adoption. However, in reality, even in the USA, I think it will take a while for lower frequencies to be used by all providers for 5G use. I did find this: https://www.everythingrf.com/News/details/8554-Germany-Makes-700-MHz-Frequency-Band-Available-for-5G-Rollouts and So it looks like you didn't have the 700 MHz bad available in Germany bef

  38. OUCH! This is not good at all! I have never seen this behavior, but I also haven't loaded LOS on a Pro1 (yet) either. I wonder what would have happened if instead of reflashing stock, you just put the SIM card into another phone and flipped the switch, then returned it to the Pro1.

  43. SYM as modifier key is definitely possible. That's a great suggestion! Making the staggered pop-up will require we make a custom Input Method, something I'd love to but will pose a huge cost... So maybe when we get bigger. But making Sym key as a edible modifier sounds great and achievable.

  44. If the 12 is not something locked by android but within your control, it would be SUPER elegant, if you rather than twelve had one for each of the letter&symbol-keys so we pressing the Sym had a staggered keyboard map pop up, and then pressing say the M got what ever symbol we put there. (Optimally with the HW-printed letter&symbols in faint small print, and the symbols in clear print in this helper display) If Sym was used as a modifier with the M, we could have the symbol directly without the helper screen popping up. And this system could be expanded to allow Sym+modifier

  46. There is not too many choices outside Google's updater, Adups and making your own I think (and before certificatio Google's updater is not an option, homebrew solution is not an easy thing). Adups is haunted by it's past but I trust Waxberry knows his stuff 100%, as evidenced by the phone as a whole :). Nevertheless it's good people asked, so that if people question it they find answers. As a sidenote, the allegations against Adups in that pdf I linked are relatively easy to verify. If people are still concerned by the time I have my phone I'm willing to investigate :-).
