  1. I know about the developer options and have them revealed. The root settings option I've never touched. It has only 2 settings-- disabled and ADB only. "disabled" is the default and since neither setting seems right and root works, bI'veejust left it on disabled. So I am trying to figure how it maps to your explanation, but if everything keeps working I won't worry about it. 😉
  2. I'm confused by this, probably because I know less than I should and tend to just follow instructions like recipes. I don't know of enabling SU for apps in settings. I just Flash Lineage, flash Gaaps and flash Magisk in recovery (rebooting recovery between each) and it just works. What settings are you referring to here? Is this new in the new build? Or can I just keep doing what I have been doing? Or (most likely), am I misunderstanding everything. 😄
  3. I updated to test 14. Everything went smoothly. Not seeing any horizontal lines, flickering or otherwise, but will let you know if that changes.
  4. So, of course, I haven't had the phone shuts off thing happening in days, but I will flash the new build tonight.
  5. Pretty much nothing has changed since that Verizon thread. The Pro1 has not been officially registered with Verizon. To get it to work you will need a "mule" phone that has a Verizon SIM where the mule phone has been provisioned for VoLTE. You then transfer that SIM to your Pro1 and the Verizon system thinks it's still the mule phone. It works fine, mybe for months, but for some, myself included, it breaks down, usually with the symptom of refusing to send SMS. However, not everyone has reported that. I was lucky enough to be able to go to a GSM carrier (AT&T in my case) because I di
  6. The snapdragon camera does show thumbnails, but only if you have logged in, not if invoked when the phone is locked. With the phone locked, all you can do is shoot a pic. I suspect they did it as a security measure and, yes, it is annoying, but that is how it's supposed to work.
  7. Quite right. I only meant that they were encouraging to those who want to do it, providing links, resources and a user forum to document experiences and promoting alternative OSes in their official tweets.
  8. It just happened to me again. I could not get this solution to work. I noticed there was no feedback from holding the power button (there's usually a very light kick from the button when the menu pops up) so I'm not sure I ever got the restart menu. I will try again the next time it happens. I have confirmed that that combination of Tabs and Enter should work if the menu comes up.
  9. Not exactly. Google may not make it easy but they have explicitly stated in the past that rooting (and unlocking the bootloader) does not void warranty on their branded devices and I believe this is still true with Pixel devices. They even provide factory images that can be flashed before warranty repair. They simply state that if you get into trouble by altering Android code in some way you shouldn't, flash the factory image before sending your device in. F(x) Tec is the same. They encourage unlocking and rooting and doing so won't void warranty.
  10. That's what I love about Lineage vs Stock... most of the workarounds are no longer needed and instead integrated into the OS. 😉
  11. That's an alarm (and so is the icon in the status bar when you collapse it. Something has an an alarm set for 6:01 pm-- you can check alarm. It might not produce an actual alarm, depending on what's doing it. I used to use a calendar app called Pimlical and I would see an alarm for 2:00am jin that position (if there wasn't an actual alarm scheduled sooner) just because that was when the calendar app performed a daily housekeeping. Something on your phone thinks it has an alarm scheduled.
  12. Ah, right, you must have selected an input language for the keyboard. Go back and deselect all... that will result in keyboard being designated as default and the slant arrows will work. Really, FinQwerty makes all of this soooo much easier. Again, been a long time (December) since I did the shortcut stuff, but I don't think the F(x) key is involved at all. It's in the settings for the launcher that you assign long presses on the keys, IIRC (which I my not).
  13. You type the slash and question mark by holding one of the yellow slant arow keys and typing P or L. Same with all yellow symbols, unless you use Finquerty which makes all byt / and ? work with shift. Not clear what you are doing with the short cuts. You set them up in settings and then they work in the launcher (but not in programs-- I think, it has been a while since I used the default launcher)-- of course, this was never a selling feature... a hardware keyboard was. 😉 The only problem I found with the shortcuts, back when I tried them out, is that if you had a shortcut open an app
  14. Wait, has there been a new April update applied to phones being shipped now? I'm confused. This is stock, right? And is your bootloader locked?
  15. Okay, this may have just hit the too annoying stage. It just did it again, third day in a row. But I learned something new this time because it did it while I was using it. The phone isn't turning off. The first thing that happened was the screen froze (wouldn't respond). Then the screen turned off. Clicking the power button did nothing. But plugging in a USB cable got me the musical note that told me it connected to my computer and the green light came on showing it was charging. So it seems that it's the case that the screen is turning off and refusing to come on so the only thing I
  16. It should have been. Have you installed all updates. The date on the last one should be 06 March,I believe, with a SEP 2019 security patch. Did you reboot after each install?
  17. I've had my Pro 1 for 6 months now. I use it without a case or screen protector, just a black matte skin on the back to give the back a little texture. It has been dropped a few times. It shows no wear and is still as solid as the day I got it. The hinge has loosened a little over time, as I would expect, but everything still feels properly aligned. I think this phone has a long life ahead of it. 👍
  18. Any android I have ever had, including the Pro1, starts back up again when it is forced to shut down by holding the power button for a long period. It is particularly good for an android device that is being bit glitchy, like a bettery pull used to be, back when you could pull batteries.
  19. I'm having something curious happening, but I'm not sure that it's the same a being described here. Every so often, I just find my Pro1 off This is recent and I need to collect better data on when it happens (pulled from pocket vs picked up on table). It's just off (I think of reboot as meaning it comes back on on it's own). It never turns off when I'm using it. I just find it off. Sometimes it's once every couple of days, sometimes it's once a day. I do think it is often when I pull it from my pocket (but need to start paying attention to make sure), but if the power button were ge
  20. Seems an awful waste since a) I have no idea why you think you are entitled to a refund for a smashed phone and b) unsmashed, you probably could have sold it. But if the therapy was worth $700+, glad it was cathartic. By the way, very little of the above has been my experience.
  21. The Pro1 is my first keyboard phone, so I'm not missing any phone I ever had. But I especially don't miss my Nexus 5, which was my favorite slab phone ever and was the only phone that made me not miss my Palm TX anymore. 😉
  22. I honestly think you are jumping the gun—not that they shouldn't be faster, but they have a limited staff still working from home and it takes them a while to get through all the email that comes in. You can try invoking @Erik here and see if he can elevate it. I believe from others' experience that you will get the refund.
  23. No problems here, but I also didn't use the Test 12 Boot image as it didn't seem like anything was being changed there. I just flashed the Test 12 ROM and Gapps and the Magisk.
  24. Having a backup phone is always a good idea. Get a basic, inexpensive Android phone that can get you through and then become a backup. I spent 7 months on a Moto G6 I picked up for $99 when my Nexus 6p died while waiting for my Pro 1. Just a thought...
